respect for , and one of the most hardworking and painstaking of Masons . Tha brethren would find his true worth during his year of office . He was very proud to be at Bro . Croft Wise's installation , and he was specially proud to be present when he found that a very old friend of his—Bro . Massey—whom he had met out in Masonry many yearsmore particularly at the Board of Benevolence and other Grand Lodge functions—was a member of the lodge tf more than 33 years' standing , and a Past Master of 28 years ' standing . He never knew until that night that Bro . Massey was a member of the lodge .
Bro . Moss Chapman , I . P . M ., proposed " The VV . M . " The duty of proposing the toast devolved upon him accidentally , and he was sorry to say , unfortunately , in one respect . In another respect he was proud to have to perform it . Bro . Walter Martin had greatly assisted him by speaking in such flattering terms of Bro . Croft Wise . All he could add was to inform the brethren of the Beadon Lodge that they had a jolly good Master in the present occupant of the chair .
Bro . E . Croft Wise , VV . M ., in acknowledging the toast , said it was useless for him to inform the brethren that he was somewhat new to occupying the position of W . M . because they all knew it was the first time he had filled that chair . He scarcely knew how to address himself to the brethren . First , of course , his principal idea was to thank them for the very cordial way they had received him and for the great kindness shown to him since the first day he entered the Beadon Lodge . There was a good deal of regret he felt that evening because Bro . Meierhoff , I . P . M ., who had been very kind to
him during the whole of his connection with the lodge , was absent . Another regret was for Bro . Meierhoff ' s bereavement which should impress upon them certain points in Freemasonry which wery very solemn and sacred . Whatever might happen , the end must come , aud all the bs « VViteti -were going that way . None of them ought to forget the solemnity of it . But among all the solemnity that rested upon them that night he felt a great amount of pride in having attained the chair . He thought there were some of the Past Masters present who would remember
what he said the first night he entered the lodge room . He then had the impudence to warn the W . M ., although there was no occasion for it , that all the brethren even the important ones , as he thought , with the collars on , that they had better look out for their laurels because he was going for the chair . He had gone for it and had got it He hoped that while he was in it he should not disgrace it or the lodge any more than he had for the last five years . It was five years that night that he was made a Master Mason in the Beadon Lodge , and he thought he had got into the chair very early .
He had reached it , but it had not been altogether by his own efforts . There was a very dear friend on his right ( Bro . Walter Martin ) , who had been a great supporter of and a great help to him . There were also others on his right who had always helped him very much ; and there was also Bro . Meierhoff . He ( Bro . Croft Wise ) attached enormous importance to lodges of instruction . Brethren could not learn in regular lodges ; those lodges met too seldom ; but if they wanted to go on to the chair it was absolutely and emphatically necessary , that ' thev
should attend lodges of instruction . He did not know whether his course was a right one ; but it was the one he struck out , and it had succeeded so far . As soon as he was able he went round and poked his nose into lodges of instruction without being introduced . A Past Master came up to him to test him , and he advised brethren to attend lodges of instruction ; . there were plenty of them . But he wished to
impiess this upon the brethren—it was not only lodges of instruction j much depended upon the Past Masters of a lodge , and if brethren would consult and be guided by the Past Masters , they would find every help and support they wanted , and would be directed in thc right course . He fully felt and appreciated the help and support he had received from the Past Masters of the Beadon Lodge , and he was sure he would still have it .
Bro . Norrington , P . M ., responded to the toast of " The Installing Master ; " Bros . Fleck , Lewis , and others to that of * ' The Visitors ; " Bros . Norrington and Massey to that of "The Past Masters ; and Bro . Adams , S . VV ., to that of "The Treasurer , the Secretary , and other Ollicers of the Lodge . Lodge of Loyalty , No . 1607 . The brethren of this lodge held their installation meeting at the London Tavern , on Saturday , the 23 rd inst ., when the high reputation which the lodge has gained for excellence of working was fully maintained . A considerable number of visiting brethren honoured the lodge with their presence on the occasion . Amongst others wc noticed Bros . Perrin , 1 G 5 S ; Smith ; Hattersley , 262 ; Roots , W . M . 25 S 9 ; Walham , P . M . i 539 < Arthur , J . W . 176 G ; Morgan , P . M . 1571 ; Raiker , 1 G 24 ; Riches , P . M . 2409 j

M . 174 ; Rich , jun ., G 5 ; Carroll , 1227 ; Williamson , 3 ; Sargeant , 1506 ; Brown , S . VV . 1446 ; and others . The lodge having been opened and the usual preliminary work taken , the ceremony of installation was proceeded with , the outgoing Master , Bro . James Lawson , in accordance with the invariable tradition of the lodge , installing his successor , Bro . Walter Lovell Barker , into the chair of K . S . The ceremony was rendered in a manner which
not meiely called forth expressions of the highest praise from the brethren but lent a new solemnity and deeper significance to the beautiful ritual . Such a rendering as that given by Bro . Lawson has , we venture to say , never been surpassed and , in our humble judgment , seldom been equalled . The newly-installed Master proceeded in an impressive manner to invest his ofiicers as follows : Bros . J . Lawson , Immediate Past Master ; G . Cunnington , S . W . ; M . W . Jameson , J . W . ; R . , F . Loveday , Steward ; and Ellis , Tyler . It may be stated that Bro . G . Cunnington , the S . VV ., is the able Preceptor of the Loyalty Lolge of Instruction , and it is largely to his untiring zeal that this lodge ( and many other lodges also ) cm shov such good working . Before the close of the lodge , the newly-installed W . M . presented to Hro . Lawson , the retiring Master , in the name of the lodge , a handsome Past Mast : r's jewel , in token of thc appreciation of the brethren of his valued services to the lodge as W . Bro . J . Terry , P . G . S . B ., Sec R . M . B . I ., replied to the toast of "The Masonic Charities . " "The W . M . " was proposed by Bro . Hugh Taylor , I . P . The musical arrangements were under the direction of Bro . T . A , Hill , P . M ., P . P . G . Org ., assisted by Bros . Ward , Asman , Dennett , Powell , Burry , Forrester , Stribling , and Cotton . The reputation the lodge has for its musical talent was fully maintained , and the admiration and applause of the many guests were well deserved as well as appreciated ,
Lodge of Loyalty , No . 1607 . The brethren of this lodge held their installation meeting at the London Tavern , on Saturday , the 23 rd inst ., when the high reputation which the lodge has gained for excellence of working was fully maintained .
