Under these circumstances it was very agreeable to be favoured with an invitation to hold our meeting in this city , and it is by the kindness and hospitality

PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF SUFFOLK
The annual meeting of the above Provincial Grand Lodge was held or ! the iSih instant , under the banner of the Martyn Lodge , at the picturesque seaside town of Southwold . For the occasion the town was quite en file , banners gaily floating in the principal streets , the'bells of the church ringing a merry peal , and the band of the local Volunteer Artillery corps discoursing
excellent music throughout the day . Southwold indeed—both visitors and residents—regarded the appearance of so many Freemasons in its midst with the curiosity that belongs to the somewhat mysterious , and with that interest
with which curiosity invests an object . The members of the Provincial Grand Lodge , to the number of about 150 , certainly had a most enjoyable day , the weather being gloriously fine , and showing up to their fullest advantage the many charms of this delightful watering-place .
In the unavoidable absence of the Right Hon . Lord Henniker , P . G . W . England , Prov . G . M ., an able and hospitable substitute was found in Bro . the Re-. C . J . Martyn , P . G . C . England , D . P . G . M ., and both the business and pleasurable proceedings passed off in a manner that will leave a very
happy recollection ot the 1 S 9 S meeting at Southwold . For the excellence of the arrangements made for the accommodation and cordial reception of so large a number of guests , the personal efforts of Bro . J . M . Canova and others associated with him must be complimented .
The proceedings commenced by the assembling of the brethren in the Drill Hall , and the Provincial Grand Lodge was opened by the D . P . G . M ., accompanied by G . and Prov . G . Officers , who entered the hall in procession in Masonic clothing . A very large number of brethren of various lodges of the province were present .

The brethren were then assembled , and under the direction of the Prov . G . Director of Ceremonies , Bro . Franks , headed by the band , walked through the main street in procession to the Church of St . Edmund to attend Divine
service . Large and very interesting crowds gathered to see the long and attractive procession , and the church was crowded in every part when the service commenced . It was a very beautiful service , having been specially arranged for the occasion , and the musical portion was particularly pleasing . This was largely due to the fact that 12 senior boys from the choir of Norwich Cathedral assisted the local choristers , and Bros . Holden , Brooks ,
Thoules , and J . H . Brockbank , also of Norwich Cathedral , rendered solos and quartettes that very richly enhanced the musical items . Bro . Normandale , P . G . C , preached an eloquent sermon " Faith , Hope , and Charity , " alluding to the beneficent inlluence of the Craft in mitigating the bitterness of both religious and political
controversy , though , as an organisation , it carefully avoided direct reference to either . Bro . the Rev . Moorehouse read the lessons , and the Rev . G . C . W . Pimbury intoned the service , while the Vicar , the Rev . H . C . Sutton , pronounced the Benediction . The collection , which was made on behalf of the Cottage Hospital , and Nursing Benefit Association of Southwold , realised £ 12 .
After service the brethren marched back to the lodge room , where the D . P . G .
