great loss sustained by the nation and the Craft through the lamented death of the R . W . Bro . H . R . H . Prince Albert Victor of Wales , Duke of Clarence and Avondale , P . G . Warden , Prov . G . M . of Berkshire , and Citizen of York , and its sincere sympathy with the AT . VV . Grand Master , the Prince of Wales , the Princess of Wales , the Princess Victoria Mary of Teck , and the other members of the Royal Family , in their heavy bereavement . " Bro . Rym ^ r , P . M .,

P . P . G . R ., seconded the resolution in sympathetic terms , and touched upon the fact that he had had the honour of entertaining the Pi ince several times at the Alansion House during his mayoralty , and it had also been his privilege to make Prince Albert Victor a freeman of the city of York . The Worshipful Alaster , in supporting the resolution , said that the late Prince was endeared to them as a fellow citizen and a Mason . In no place in this country would

his loss be felt more than in York . It was a shock to the nation , and everyone must fee ! the deepest sympathy with the bereaved ones , especially with the Princess whom he was about to raise to a position of domestic happiness . The resolution was then adopted in the usual manner of Alasons . Bro . S . Border , P . AL , moved , and Bro . T . S . Brogden , I . P . AL , seconded the following resolution , which was unanimously adopted : "That this lodge desires to

record its regret at the loss sustained by the Craft through the death of V . W . Bro . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , Grand Secretary , and hon . member of this lodge . " Bro . J . Sykes Rymer , P . AL , P . P . G . R ., then proceeded with an address " On his recent Alasonic experiences in America , " and in the course of an instructive and , in some respects , humorous lecture , he traced his journey in the "City of Berlin " across the" herring pond , " and described

his visits to Washington , Brooklyn , New York . George Town , Chicago , & c . He spoke in warm terms of the kind reception he met with at the hands of American Freemasons , and paid a tribute to the work done by General Pike , Bro . Webber , and General John C . Smith . He expressed his thanks to Bros . VV . J . Hughan , T . B . Whytehead , and Jos . Todd for their letters of introduction to prominent Alasons in America , who , in consequence ,

conducted him through various interesting events . He told of a cutious custom at Washington with regard to wearing "top hats" at certain ceremonies , and he stated that a lodge at Nottingham worked in this way . A question was put "Where does the W . AL place his hat : " and the answer was " On Nature ' s peg . " The lecturer described what he had seen in connection with American installations , and urged the desirability of adopting the American plan

of admitting ladies to certain social entertainments occasionally in which Alasons' wives and other members of their families could take a part . Why should they be enjoying themselves and their wives and families , or sisters , be left at home . He spoke highly of the hospitality extended to him by the American Alasons . The lecturer presented several valuable books to the lodge tthichhe had collected in America . Bro . ] . Todd , P . AL ,
