P . P . G . D . C . After the unprecedently long minutes of the last meeting had been read , Mr . Arthur Weathers Cooke , a previously accepted candidate , was initiated into the mysteries of Masonry by the W . M . in his well known impressive manner , after which the D . P . G . silver with name and number of the lodge and emblem of office , and another pair for thc use of the S . W . Bro . Ferris Bailey , J . W ., also presenting a pair for the use of the J . welcomed and other business transacted , including several propositions for initiation and joining , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the Lesser Park Hall , where a sumptuous dinner was served by Bro . S . P . Hunt , of the Park Hotel . At last year's banquet a new departure was made by inviting the ladies to the post prandial proceedings and to light
refreshments , which venture was so much appreciated that the W . M . elect determined this year to invite them to the dinner and the whole of the evening , arranging for a dance after dinner . Williams , W . M . 2357 , P . P . S . G . D . Mon ., and Mrs . Williams '* most of the brethren named above with their wives , daughters , or other lady friends being present , in all about 140 sat down to dinner . After justice had been done to the good things provided , the Worshipful Master put the usual toast of " The Queen and Craft , " then "The M . W . G . M ., the Princeof Wales ,
and the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " to which Bro . Tennant , P . A . G . D . C . Eng ., briefly replied . The Worshipful Master then gave the toast of "The R . W . Prov . Grand Master , Bro . Sir George Elliot , the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , and the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . * , Marmaduke ; Tennant , D . P . G . M ., in a mjst happy
speech , replied at length , stating how fully he approved of the presence of ladies . He spoke of the great assistance our Charities received from ladies , and begged that the ladies present would help him and Masonry more and more , in a humorous manner telling them he would let them into our secret , which was simply "doing good , " and in that the ladies could render valuable assistance . He then asked
the ladies and brethren to drink with much heartiness the toast of " The Worshipful Master , " and resumed his seat amid prolonged applause . The toast having been drunk with the greatest enthusiasm , the Worshipful Master replied . He thanked the D . P . G . M . for the kindly words he had used injproposing the toast , and the ladies and brethren for the hearty way they had received
it . He said it was his honest intention to do all that lay in his power to foster and encourage the good feeling that existed in the Tennant Lodge , to sustain its position , and to advance its best interests in every way . He thanked the ladies for their presence , and solicited their help and encouragement . He stated it was his intention to visit as much as possible the lodges in the province and in the adjoining province of
Monmouth , and in that the ladies could assist him by allowing their husbands to accompany him , ] as he ' should not care to go alone . The toast of "The Ladies" was then proposedj . by Bro . F . Mathews , P . M ., P . P . S . G . W ., in a few but wellchosen and appropriate words , in which he declared his love for the beautiful though homely word woman , asserting that
a man who do not respect and honour a woman was not worthy the name of a man , more especially of Mason . The toast was drunk with the greasiest possible heartiness . Bro . Ferris Bailey , S . VV ., rose to respond . He expressed his gratitude to the VV . M ., the D . P . G . M ., and to Bro . Matthews , P . M ., for having said so much in favour of the ladies , that it left him practically with nothing to say , and
that even if it had not already been said , any thoughts he might have had would have been completely scattered at the sight of so many of the fair sex before . him . He congratulated the ladies and brethren that he was not the proposer of the toast , for had he been and once started he would probably have wearied them with a very long speech on such an endless subject as the ladies . Goine * back to
the time when man lived alone—and it was found that it was not good for man to be alone—he would have quoted from the sacred writers and from poets and others who had written the praises of women from that time right away down to the poems of that great man who was that very evening lying in state in England's burial-place of the illustrious dead , waiting for interment on the morrow .
Nearly every lady in the room knew how much he and the Tennant Lodge generally appreciated the presence of the ladies , that though the annual banquets had always been nice , they were a hundred times better with the ladies present , and expressed a sincere * hope that it would not be by any means their last visit ; but , he said , I am entirely forgetting that I am to respond for the ladies , and for the
moment am supposed to be a lady , and to speak on their behalf . Well , VV . M ., I can only say that we have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves , that we are veryjgrateful to you for inviting us , that we will do all that you and the D . P . G . M . have asked us to do , and , above all , will always come whenever you invite us to such occasions as the present . We thank you very much for the kind way you
have received the toast . " The Installing Master " having been accorded a hearty vote of thanks in lodge , and not being present , this toast was omitted . "The Masonic Charities" was ably proposed by Bro . Dr . VVilliams , P . M ., President of the Tennant Lodge Charities Association ,
"The Visitors" was then given by the W . M ., and drank with the usual warmth of the Tennant brethren , being responded to by Bro . VV . B . Ferrier , W . M . 960 , Prov . Grand Reg . " The Officers of the Tennant Lodge " was proposed by the VV . M . in flattering terms , and briefly responded to by the S . W ., and Bro . John Sheridan , J . W .
Between the speeches songs and pianoforte pieces were rendered by Mrs . Pudge , the Misses Kerwen , Jenkins , and Gower , Bros . J . H . Taylor , P . M . j Thos . Evans , P . M . ; and B . D . Jenkins , and recitations by Bros . J . Ridley , P . M . 9 G 0 ; and John Sheridan , J . W . At 10 p . m . a move was made to the crush rooms of the
Park Hall , where dancing was kept up till 2 a . m . to the sweet strains of Messrs . Johnson ' s and Roberts' band , finishing a most enjoyable evening with three cheers for the VV . M . and Mrs . Hogg , and thc singing of Auld Lang Syne . The only regret expressed being that owing to the serious illness of his wife the genial and popular T . P . M ., Bro . VV . E . Miles , was unable to bc present at the dinner and after proceedings .

M . and the other visitors had been warmly
welcomed and other business transacted , including several propositions for initiation and joining , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the Lesser Park Hall , where a sumptuous dinner was served by Bro . S .
The VV . M ., with Mrs . Hogg on his left , presided , and was supported by the D . P . G . M ., Bro . M .
