After the singing of an anthem , " BeliDld , how good and joyful a thing it is , brethren , to dwell together in unity , " The P . G . Secretary ( lira . J . C . Hu . N'r ) called over the ro ' . I of lodges , and found that the whole of the twenty-two lodges in the district were represented . The P . G . Secretary next read the minutes of the last P . G . lodge , after which
The P . G . Treasurer ( Bro . E . TURNER PAYNE ) submitted the annual statement of account , and congratulated the lodge on the satisfactory nature of it . He mentioned that there was a balance left in hand of £ 46 Ss . 5 d ., and added that oniy £ 9 gs . 2 d . were expended in obtaining the election of candidates for the charities . One of the auditors having certified to the accuracy of
the accounts , they were passed , on the motion of tiro . RADWAY , W . M ., 41 , seconded by Dr . VVYBRANTS . The R . W . P . G . M . having declared all offices vacant , Bro . Dr . COMMITS proposed , and Bro . T . E . S . J ELLEY seconded , the re-appointment of Bro . Payne as treasurer , and the motion was agreed to with acclamation . Bro . PAYNE , in responding , mentioned that the brethren
throughout the province of Somerset now numbered 996 . there having been 62 initiations during the past year . He mentioned that Bro . Col . Adair was now the only surviving trustee of the P . O . Lodge property , and suggested the advisability of filling the two vacancies . He was sure that they could not do better than ask their two distinguished brethren the R . W . P . G . M . the Earl of Carnarvon , and the
V . VV . U . P . G . M . Bro . Else , to be kind enough to undertake the duties . The R . W . P . G . M . the Earl of CARNARVON said it was not only desirable , perhaps , but right and necessary , that the vacancies should be filled up . Probably there would be no difference of opinion with regard to the appointments ; but for the sake of regularity he thought some notice ought
to be given of the motion . Bro . PAYNE having acquiesced in this suggestion , The R . W . P . G . M . appointed and invested the following brethren as officers for the ensuing year : —Bros . C . R . Obituary .
BRO . VV . LAIDLAVV . The news of the decease of Bro . William Laidlaw , a Past Provincial Grand Lodge Officer of West Lancashire , will be received everywhere in the province , and in many parts of England , with sincere regret . During a long and earnest life he proved himself a true Mason , and he specially exerted himself to diffuse a love of music , which was part and parcel of his existence . Born of Scotch parents
in the city of Liverpool at the beginning of this eventful century , Bro . William Laidlaw , P . P . G . S . B . and Treasurer 21 G , had reached the patriarchal age of eighty years . He was educated at the Caledonian School in Oldham-strcet , and on leaving that excellent institution he became connected with commerce . Later he entered the service of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board , but retired about sixteen years ago . From the beginning he applied himself
with ardour to the study of music . Possessing a fine bass voice he became amemberof the old Liverpool Choral Society and his tall and manly figure was prominent in the chorus in St . Peter ' s Church on the occasion of the famous musical festival of 1 S 3 G , over which Sir George Smart , the friend of Weber , presided . The Apollo Glee Club , which came into existence well-nigh a century ago , and which is honoured by the possession of an unrivalled collection of glee music ,
had Bro . Laidlaw as one of its members , and in 1 S 47 he , with his friend , Bro . Thomas Armstrong , P . P . G . Treas ., who , happily , is still hale and hearty , assisted at the foundation of the Socicta Armonica . Of the members of the Apollo perhaps the more distinguished were Mr . J . L . Hatton and Sir Henry Bishop—the latter a composer who has never been appreciated at his highest value—while it must be of interest to know that Mr . Santley held a violin
in the " Armonica before the days in which the beauty of his voice and the perfection of his method gave him the high position he still continues to occupy . When the "Choral" and " Musical " Societies were amalgamated under the direction of Mr . Maybrick , the father of the composer , whose songs are now in every mouth , Bro . Laidlaw undertook the post of secretary of the combination . For upwards of thirty years he plaved
in the orchestra of the " Armonica , " the instrument he played being the French horn , and just a week or so has elapsed since he laid it down . Throughout his career he applied ! himself assiduously to the formation of a library of music , and his knowledge and discrimination are shown in the collection which he has left behind him . It is rich in original editions , and it may be doubted whether a finer library of its kind is in existence . What

its ultimate destination may be is unknown , but it would be a pity were its dispersion allowed . It is related that the MS . of a tune by the father of the Prince Consort went astray , and that years after it turned up in Bro . Laidlaw ' s library , where , we are given to understand , it now is , the possessor having refused to part with it . Bro . Laidlaw's reminiscences of the exponents of the art to which he was
so devoted would fill a goodly volume , and it is to be hoped that some at least of these have been preserved . His funeral took place at Smithdown-lane Cemetery , on Thursday week , and among those . who participated in the mournful ceremony were many old associates of his own in music and in Masonry . Bro . the Rev . H . G . Vernon , P . P . G . Chaplain of St . Stephen ' s , Byron-street , conducted
the impressive service , and amongst others present were Bro . Major Turner , P . P . G . Treasurer ; Bro . Capt . Newman , P . P . G . Registrar ; Capt . Murdock ( who travelled from Inverness to be present ); Bro . Dr . Kisch , 216 ; Bro . J . Skeaf , P . G . O . ; Bro . Joseph Wood ( Freemason ) ; Bro . H . S . Alpass , P . G . Sec . ; Mr . BRO . JOS . IREDALE . We regret to announce the death of this veteran Craftsman , after a long illness , at his residence , in Portlandsquare , Carlisle . Bro . Iredale , we believe , was initiated into Masonry many years ago in the Lodge of Harmony , Carlisle , now defunct . He was a P . M . of Union Lodge , 310 , Carlisle , and a P . Z . of the same chapter . As far back as 1 S 46 he was Deputy Grand Master of Cumberland to
Sir James Graham , and held the appointment for eight years . He was also a P . S . of Dykes' Conclave , 3 6 , Red Cross Knights , and a member of the Ancient and Accepted Rite . Commercially , Bro . Iredale was for a long period a brewer , and did large business in the North of England . He was President of the Carlisle Licenced Victuallers ' Association , and at one time was a Town Councillor of the Border city . He was in his seventy-sixth year .
BRO . GEORGE LYALL . We have to announce the death of Bro . George Lyall , at his residence , Cleve Hill , Gloucestershire , in his sixtythird year . Masonically he was a P . M . of Surrey Lodge , No . 416 , Reigate , and P . P . G . J . U . of Surrey , and in 1 S 59 became a joining member of the Sun , Square , and Compasses Lodge , No . 119 , Whitehaven . He was the eldersurvivingson of the late Mr . George Lyall , of Finedon , Sussex , formerly
M . P . for London andsometime Chairman of the Honourable East India Company . Bro . Lj-all was educated at Winchester and Geneva . He was a magistrate for Surrey , a commissioner of lieutenancy for London , and a governorof Christ's Hospital ; he was also a director and late governor of the Bank of ICngland . Bro . Lyall sat in the House of Commons as member for Whitehaven in the Conservative interest from 1 S 57 till 1 S 65 .
BRO . RICHARD BOGGETT . We exceedingly regret to announce the decease of outesteemed Bro . Richard Boggctt , of the borough town and county of Kingston-upon-HulI , P . M . 57 and 11 S 1 , Past Prov . G . S . B . ot North and East Yorkshire , which took place soon after midnight on the 21 st inst . The deceased was the First Principal of the Dc La Pole Chapter , besides
being connected with many other Degrees outside theCraft . notably the " Mark , " of which he was Past Grand J . D . of England , P . P . G . M . O . of Lincolnshire , P . M . of the Humber Mark , 1 S 2 , I . P . M . of the Beverlac Lodge , 2 S 1 , Past M . Purst . Sovereign of the Dc La Pote Conclave of the Red Cross of Rome and Constantine , Past Commander Royal Ark Mariners , besides being an tCxccllent and Super
Excellent Master , and connected with the Prince of Wales Chapter of Rose Croix , Commander of St . John , K . H . S ., the Royal Order of Scotland and St . Lawrence the Martyr , & c . tiro . Boggett , who but young ( thirty-seven ) , had during his Masonic career , extending over ten or twelve years , certainly had Freemasonry at heart , especially the Masonic Charities , he having several times served as
Stewards of these Charities . His energy , his zeal , and his anxiety to promote the welfare of the Craft in general won him the confidence and esteem of the whole of the brethren , and made him one of the most useful and inlluential members of the several lodges with which he was connected . He was ever at the call of any brother , and ready at a moment ' s notice to fill any
place , from the Masters chair to Inner or even Outer Guard . In fact , it may be unhesitatingly said , that our deceased Bro . Boggett was one of the best Masons in the province of North and East Yorkshire , and it will be long | before the members will look on his like again , and yet still longer before his various offices will be filled to the satisfaction of the brethren in the province . Whatever
his hand found to do he did with all his might , and his geniality and checrfnlncss will never be forgotten . He was laid to rest on the 25 th inst ., and although at the request of the family of the deceased , the funeral was entirely of a private character , wc noticed amongst the mourners Bros . Gillett , W . M . of the De La Pole Lodge , 11 S 1 ; Preston , P . M . ; Cheesman , P . M . ; A . P . Wilson ,
W . M . Beverlac , 2 S 1 ; Ansdell , S . W . ; Wright , Howarth , Highmoor , Chapman , Wing , & c . The G . A . O . T . U . having called our Brother to that house not made with hands , may his footsteps be followed by many young and rising members in the province , b y their emulating the cheerfulness and zeal in the carrying out of all good Masonic work which characterised Bro . Boggett . VVe understand it has been suggested by the Beverlac Mark
Lodge ( of which the deceased occupied the position of J . P . M . ) , in conjunction with the Ctaft and Royal Arch Chapter , to try and raise a Alasonic Hall at Beverley to be called the " Boggctt Masonic Memorial , " and wc trust that if such intention is carried out that it will not only be assisted by many of the brethren in the province , but by many at a distance who prize honour and worth above the external advantages of rank and fortune .

Obituary .
BRO . VV .

Iredale , we believe , was initiated into Masonry many years ago in the Lodge of Harmony , Carlisle , now defunct . He was a P . M . of Union Lodge , 310 , Carlisle , and a P . BRO . GEORGE LYALL . We have to announce the death of Bro . George Lyall , at his residence , Cleve Hill , Gloucestershire , in his sixtythird year . Masonically he was a P . He was the eldersurvivingson of the late Mr . George Lyall , of Finedon , Sussex , formerly
M . P . for London andsometime Chairman of the Honourable East India Company . Bro . Lj-all was educated at Winchester and Geneva .
