M . was a quiet man in his way , but a man of deed ? , not of words . He hoped sincerely that Bro . Castle would have a most successful yearof office , and

was sure that the prestige of the lodge , the traditions of the past , and those who had preceded him would be maintained , and would be an incentive to him to do his best . Iiro . Geo . W . Castle , VV . M ., said he felt quite at a loss to respond for the kind way in which the l . P . M . had proposed his health , and for the more than cordial reception given the toast . He had been described as a man of still

tongue , and if he had not the happy faculty of expressing himself as well as the I . P . M ., it was not for the want of a sympathetic feeling with the other members of the lodge in the work and objecls they had in view . He would try to make the lodge as successful as it bad bei n in the past . Bros . Dewsnap , Francif , Gardiner , and Purkiss returned thanks for "The Visitors . " and expressed the pleasure

their visit had afforded them . Bro . A . Blenkarn , I . P . M ., in response to the toast of his health , proposed by the W . M ., said that reference had been made to bis rendering ot the ritual but if a man liked a thing he did his best to do it well . He did not think there was anything in his Masonic career at which a brother could point and say " That man never did his duty . " His

Masonic knowledge was gained from Bro . Francis in the Brixton Lodge ol Instruction . In his capacity of Treasurer he hoped to see that the funds were kept up on the lines laid down by his predf cessors . Other toasts , including " The Masonic Charities , " were given before the hands of the clock warned the brethren that the time had arrived for the termination of a happy gathering .

KINGSTON-ON-THAMES . Brownrigg Lodge ( No . 1638 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge was held at the Sun Hotel on Wednesday , the 19 th inst ., when Bro . I . H . Sumner was installed W . Pennington on his retiring from the chair , as a mark of esteem from the brethren for the admirable manner in which he bad conducted the affairs of the lodge during his year of office . The brethren afterwards sat down to a banquet , served

in Mrs . Frayling ' s best style . The latter part of the evening was spent in harmony , under the direction of Bro . E . J . Packington . Mr . Konatzel gave a violin solo that was highly appreciated and encored , and songs were contributed by Mrs . Pennington , Miss Florence Hawkins , and Bios . F . Masters , C . K . Oldridge , and F . Smith , and others also lent their assistance .

MINEHEAD . ExmOOr Lodge ( No . 2390 ) . —The installation meeting of the above lodge was held on the 20 th inst ., at the Town Hall , when Bro . G . H . Kite was installed as W . A candidate for initiation was balloted for , and afterwards initiated , and two brethren were passed to the Degree of F . C . Bro . James Terry , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . B . I ., the founder and father of the lodge , presented a very handsome album in which to hand down the portraits of all the lodge

members . The VV . M . expressed hearty thanks for this , another proof of Bro . Terry ' s good feeling towards the welfare of the lodge , assuring him that he had the affection and best wishes of every member . The ceremony of installing Bro . Middlehurst as W . M . was ably performed by the outgoing Master , Bro . Trask , with the able assistance of Bro . Jas . Terry , Bro . Trask giving the addresses to the officers

The lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet hall , where , in the usual excellent style , for which Ye Olde FOVVJ Swannies Hostelrie is so well noted , a splendid spread of various courses and wines of the best brands and vintages was served up and done ample justice to .

The musical arrangements weie under the control of Bro . VV . R . G . Emerson , 45 , Org . The toasts were duly responded to by Bro . Jas . Terry , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . B . I ., and Bro . Middlehurst , W . M ., who had a very pleasing duty to perform in proposing "The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . H . Trask , " by presenting him , in the name of the lodge , with a very handsome

and valuable Past Master's jewel . Bro . Trask , in feeling terms returned thank ? . The new initiate , Bro . W . A . Champion , replied to the toast of his health . Bro . Terry responded to " The Charities , " Bro . J . Black , P . M . 706 , to that of "The Visitors , " and Bros . [ H . E . Cole and W . Metcalfe to that of "The Officers . " "Aulde Lang Syne " being sung , the termination came of a most enjoyable evening .

BRO . JOHN THOMAS LAST , VV . M . 2321 . Bro . John Thomas Last , the Worshipful Master of Lodge Acacia , No . 2321 , at Bradford , Yorkshire , was initiated into Freemasonry in the Airedale Lodge , No . 387 , at Shipley , Yorkshire , on the 1 st October , 1884 . He at once manifested considerable interest in the

affairs of the lodge , and strove to make himself intelligibly acquainted with the concerns of the Craft , but especially with regard to the Masonic Benevolent Institutions . In 1889 , Bro . Last took an active part as a founder of Lodge Acacia , which was consecrated in September , 18 S 9 , he acted as Secretary to the promoters , and afterwards , for two years , occupied the position

of Secretary to the new lodge , he was J . W . in 1892 , Treasurer in 1893 , and at present is \ V . Master of the lodge ; he was exalted in the Moravia Chapter , No . 3 87 , at Shipley , in May , 1887 , and advanced in the Old York Lodge ( T . I . ) . Bradford , of Mark Masters , on the 25 th October , 1888 , in which he at present fills the J . . ' s chair ; he is a member of the Faith Preceptory ,

No . 15 , of Knights Templars , at Bradford , and is also a member of the York College of Rosicrucians , and of the Correspondence Circle of the Quatuor Coronati Lodge , No . 2076 , London ; Bro . Last is a Life Governor of all the Central Masonic Institutions , having served two Stewardships for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemasons , and once for each of the Boys' and Girls' Schools ,

BRO . JOHN THOMAS LAST , VV . M . 2321 . Bro . John Thomas Last , the Worshipful Master of Lodge Acacia , No . 2321 , at Bradford , Yorkshire , was initiated into Freemasonry in the Airedale Lodge , No . 387 , at Shipley , Yorkshire , on the 1 st October , 1884 . He at once manifested considerable interest in the

affairs of the lodge , and strove to make himself intelligibly acquainted with the concerns of the Craft , but especially with regard to the Masonic Benevolent Institutions . In 1889 , Bro . Last took an active part as a founder of Lodge Acacia , which was consecrated in September , 18 S 9 , he acted as Secretary to the promoters , and afterwards , for two years , occupied the position
