The ordinary regular meeting would have been held on the day before , but there being no other business of particular importance to be transacted , no meeting was held on Tuesday , and the customary banquet was therefore reserved for the Wednesday evening .

M . of the Tuscan Lodge , requesting that Bro . Tyler might be raised to the Third Degree in the Tuscan Lodge , as his own lodge would not meet until

next April . Bro . Tyler having answered the usual questions , retired to be prepared . The lodge was opened in the Third Degree . The W . M . then announced that Bros . Frank Richardson and Tyler were not only old friends , but that they had been at school together , and that he had therefore asked Bro . Frank Richardson to undertake

the ceremony . He accordingly vacated the chair , which was thereupon taken by Bro . Frank Richardson , who then raised Bro . 'Tyler to the Third Degree in a most impressive and able manner . At the conclusion of the ceremony Bro . C . W . Stephens resumed the chair , and closed the lodge in the Three Degiees . The brethren then adjourned to the banquet , after

which the usual loyal toasts were proposed and cordially responded to . Bro . Sir RKGINALB HANSON responded for " The Grand Officers , " and Bros . THOS . FENN and A . TIIOKN for" The Visitors . " The special toast of the evening was " The Health of the Candidate , Bro . George Robert Tyler , " which

was most fittingly proposed by Bro . FRANK RICHARDSON ' , and as appropriately responded to by Bro . TYLER . The other toasts included " The W . M ., " " The Past Masters" ( of whom no less than 10 were present ) , and The Civil Officers and the Working Officers . " The brethren separated after having spent a very enjoyable evening .

A lodge was formed in connection with the West » orkshire Regiment of Foot ( then the 14 th ) in 1846 , an < l called the " Integrity . " It went through many vicissitudes , and was removed from the roll in 1890 . 'n the historical records of the regiment it is stated

that " when the regiment received orders at Malta to Proceed to the Crimea , the adjutant ( who was a Freemason ) said if the lodge would allow him he would take the minute-book , the collars , and the warrant in »\ s own baggage ; and a small bag was made for them . He took the warrant off the rollers , and the rollers

regiment , in 1856 , work was done nearly every week . The meetings were held by arrangement at the camps of regiments in every division of the army , and in the village of Balaclava . One noble lord and two honourables were initiated on one night , and , as far as he can

recollect , they admitted very nearly one hundred members to the Order . He handed over about £ 40 , as well as he can recollect , to his successor at Malta . After work they had most amusing meetings , brethren from all corps bringing their own seats with them , as well as their eating and drinking implements ; and many a

tumble and souse in mud-holes had to be endured in finding the way home in the dark , particularly when the brethren were quite confident that they had a talent for topography and the science of short cuts . At these meetings all lights used to be placed in empty champagne bottles , and all the working tools were of the

most primitive kind ; but such rude implements did not seem to depreciate the quality of the work in the least . " Captain J . W . Alills , late 14 th Regiment , who is a P . M . of the lodge ( No . 258 ) , states that the lodge returned to Malta with the regiment , and met there , as also in Corfu and the West Indies . — -Western Morning News .

The annual audit meeting of this association took place at the Railway Tavern , Fenchurch-street , on the 23 rd inst , when there were present Bros . John Newton , Pres . ; W . Harvey , C . H . Webb , J . R . Large , and W .

T . Grant , members of Committee ; and H . AL Hobbs , Secretary . The balance-sheet showed that during the past year ^ 286 10 s . had been received and 26 ballots drawn , the balance carried forward amounting to ^ 114 7 s . 7 d ., in which were included six unappropriated shares .

The President , Vice-President , and Executive were re-elected for the current year , and eight ballots were drawn , which were won by Bros . T . A . Stames , J . T . Stratford , A . L . Tipson , H . Times , E . Ballard , East Surrey Lodge of Concord Lodge of Instruction , J . S . Fraser , and Dr . E . F . S . Green .

of Kingsland , whose portrait we publish above , is the Worshipful Master of the Egyptian Lodge , No . 27 . He was initiated in that lodge in October , 1888 , being proposed

by Bro . C . B . I odd , P . M ., and seconded by Bro . Alaidwell , P . M ., and has filled all the offices from J . D . The Egyptian Lodge is well known in the Craft for its excellent working of the ritual , and our brother will certainly help to keep up that reputation . The half-yearly meeting of this Institution was held at the Freemasons' Hall , Manchester , on Friday , the 20 th instant , and was presided over by the Chairman , Bro . J . H . Sillitoe , who was supported by Bro . J . L . Newbold , Vice-Chairman ; J . Heelis , Hon . Sec ; 1 .

Newton , Sec . ; and about 80 representatives of lodges . The minutes of the various sub-Committees were read for confirmation , after which the meeting proceeded to elect candidates as under , viz .: For Education—Two children of the late Bro . Edd . ivene , and one child of the late Bro . Palmer . All of them were adopted and referred to the Education Board . The

election of annuitants then followed , when , in consequence of the two female candidates being at present in receipt of weekly allowance from the Institution , it was deemed advisable to defer their election until the expiration of such grants . The male candidate was duly elected . The Committee voted a bonus to the Secretary , Bro . Jas . Newton , in consideration of the

extra services rendered b y him during the past year . The General Committee meeting was closed , and a meeting of the Education Board was opened . The cases above referred to were considered , and grants made accordingly . The Relief Board was afterwards formed , and the petitions of three applicants were presented , and were relieved as follows : One . £ 20 , one 8 s . per week until elected on the Annuity Fund ,

and another , £ , 10 , to be distributed by weekly payments . BRO . J . GARRITT . We have to announce , with regret , the death of Bro . J . Garritt , late of the Kingsland Lodge , No . 16 93 , which took place on Sunday , the 15 th instant . He was buried at Highgate Cemetery on Saturday , the 21 st instant . The following relatives and friends of the deceased attended the funeral : Mr . 1 . Garritt , father ;

BRO . JAMES GARNAR . A most imposing and impressive ceremony was witnessed at Nunh ^ ad Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon , the 17 th inst ., when the remains of our late highly esteemed Bro . Jas . Garnar were laid to rest in the family vault , in the presence of a large concourse ( about 300 ) of sorrowing brethren and friends . His illness , which

had extended over several montns , terminated fatally on Alonday , the 9 th inst ., at his residence , 5 , Lee Terrace , Blackheath , in his 49 th year . He had been most successful in his business and was brother of sterling qualities , whose integrity and uprightness of character had gained for him the esteem of all he came in contact with . This was evidenced by his being selected as a

Guardian to the St . Olave's Union , on the Valuation Committee for Bermondsey , a manager of the Sutton Schools , one of the managers of Heme Bay Schools , and one of the Committtee of the Leather and Hide Trades Provident and Benevolent Institution . Our deceased brother had been P . AL and Treasurer of Rose of Denmark Lodge , No . 97 s , and P . M . of the Rose

Lodge , No . 1622 . He was also a P . / V . of Stanhope Chapter , No . 1269 , and , above all , ever bearing in mind " those seeds of true benevolence , " had made himself a Vice-President of the three Alasonic Institutions . The cortege left the residence for Holy Trinity Church , which was attended by a goodly congregation , and where the first part of the funeral service was most impressively

rendered by the Rev . B . W . Buck . On arriving at the cemetery , the coffin , which was of oak with brass mountings , was borne by 10 of the oldest employes , and covered with beautiful wreaths , of which we specially noticed one from the Rose Lodge , No . 1622 , composed of white chrysanthemum ; , lilies , and . Masonic design of scarlet geraniums in the centre

with an appropriate inscription ; one from the Sutton Schools , and another from the workmen of the " Grange . " Besides the members of the deceased ' s family , there were present at the grave the employes , numbering about 150 , and many representatives of public bodies with which the deceased was connected , as well as representatives from the neighbouring
