The work is rapidly nearing completion , and in the hands of the competent Craftsman ,

Bro . Allan Mackenzie ( one of its respicted P . M . 's ) full justice will doubtless be done to this very old and distinguished lodge . We understand that no list of subscribers will be published , and that no further additions can be received to the names of those brethren vvho intended to

patronise this important undei taking , save at a considerable increase in price , the cost of production being a heavy item , as might have been expected , considering the aims and intentions of the historian , vvho is determined that No . 2 , Scotland , shall not suffer in comparison with those of other lodge histories .

THE CANCER HOSPITAL ( FREE ) , FULHAM ROAD , BROMPTON , S . W . —We desire to draw the attention of our readers to the claims on their sympathy and support of this excellent institution , which vvas founded specially for the treatment of the poor afflicted with this terrible disease , who are admitted free , from all parts of the United Kingdom , without requiring letters of

recommendation . During the year 1887 there vvere 703 new cases admitted as in-patients , and 1012 as out-patients , and the number of attendances in the out-patient department shows a large increase over previous years . The nature of the disease requires a most generous diet , as well as a treatment of the most expensive kindj and to meet the growing demand upon their resources the committee

urgently appeal for increased funds to enable them to satisfactorily cope with their liabilities . The ordinary expenditure of the hospital is some £ 3000 a year more than the reliable income , and to meet this deficit new annual subscriptions and donations are earnestly solicited , and will be thankfully received by the Bankers , Messrs . Coutts and Co ., 59 , Strand j or by the Secretary , Mr . W . H . Hughes , at the hospital , Fulham-road , S . W .

HOLLOWAY SOINTMENT AND Pius . —Rheumatism and Rheumatic gout are the most dreaded of all diseases , because their victims know they are safe at no seasonand at no age secure . Holloway ' s Ointment after fomentation of the painful parts , gives greater relief than any other application ; but it must be diligently used to obtain this desirable result . It has been highly commended by rheumatic subof all and of both

jects ages sexes , for rendering their attacks less frequent and less vigorous , and for repressing the sour perspirations and soothing the nerves . In many cases Holloway ' s Ointmentand Pills have proved the greatest blessings in removing rheumatism and rheumatic gout which has assailed persons previously and at the prime of life , —ADVT ,
