W . J . Hughan , an engraved portrait of Bro . Francif Drake , Grand Master at York in 1761 , and observed that it vvas an interesting coincidence that the Bible then opened on the pedestal was the identical Volumevvhich Drake himself had used " at the house of Mr . Heward in Lendal , "

when he revived the ancient Grand Lodge at York in 1731 . A cordial vote of thanks was passed to Bro . Hughan for his interesting gift . After the close of tlie lodge the Eboracums entertained their numerous visitors at supper , and a most enjoyable evening was spent , interspersed wrth music .

KINGSTON - ON - THAMES . —Brownrigg Lodge ( No . 1638 ) . —This lodge held an emergency meeting on the 18 th inst ., and again the W . M ., Bro . Geo . Moorman , had abusy time , three hours and aquarter being fully occupied in the vvork . This consisted of the raising of Bro . Robinson , the passing of Bros . Mills , Burall , Lancasterand Townsend j and the initiation of Messrs .

, Mayhew , Mabey , Martin , Bayley , and Creak . With the assistance of his officers , the W . M . got through the several ceremonies in a most efficient manner . Modest refreshment was partaken of after lodge vvas closed , and at that time Bro . A . Laurence , P . M . and Sec , informed the brethren of the result of the Boys ' election on the previous Monday , when the son of the

late Secretary of the Brownrigg Lodge was placed ninth on the list of elected candidates . Bro , Laurence thanked the brethren who had got votes together for the purpose , but expressed his great surprise at having less than 20 handed to him on the day of election as the contribution of the Province of Surrey , which was understood and announced to have taken the case up . This he mentioned chiefly to

show the want of proper organisation for charitable purposes in the province . After the lodge was closed , it vvas reported to the brethren that Bro . Thomas Montague , S . D ., had suffered a great bereavement in the death of his wife , and the Secretary was asked to convey to that brother an expression of the sympathy of the members present .

LANDPORT—St . Clair Lodge ( No . 2074 ) . —The installation of Bro . C . Vaughan Birch as W . M . of the above lodge , in succession to Bro . W . Dart , P . M ., P . P . G . P ., took place on Monday , the 16 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Commercial-road . There was a large gathering of Present and Past Masters and members of neighbouring lodges . The ceremony was impressively

performed by the retiring W . M ., who , at its close , received a cordial vote of thanks for his services . The newly-installed W . M ., having taken the chair , appointed and invested his officers of follows : Bros . W . Dart , I . P . M . j F . H . Woodrow , S . W . j J . S . Wickens , J . W . j W . C Webb , Treas . ; Herbert Bundy , Sec . j J . Brickwood , D . of Cj E . Borrman , S D . j E . Hopkins , J . D . j A .

Marsh , I . G . j C R . J . Gibbs , Org . ; J . G . Harris and H . R . E . Woodthorpe , Stwds . ; and T . Ryan , Tyler . The W . M . said it was customary on these occasions to present the retiring W . M . vvith a Past Master ' s jewel , but as Bro . Dart already possessed that decoration it had been determined to ask his acceptance of a suit of Provincial Grand Lodge regalia for himself and a silver tea service for Mrs .

Dart . He paid Bro . Dart a very high compliment for the manner in vvhich he had discharged his duties , not only in connection vvith the Mastership , but in connection with the lodge from the date of its foundation . Bro . Dart suitably acknowledged the presentation , and proposed a vote of thanks to the retiring Treasurer , Bro . Harry Kimber , which was carried unanimously .

The recherche banquet which followed was admirably served by Bro . Pearce , Steward of the Freemasons' Club , and was attended by all who took part in the ceremonies of the day . The formal Masonic toasts having been duly honoured , the I . P . M . proposed "The W . M ., " whom he had known for more than a quarter of a century , and whom he had

always held in high esteem and regard . When he ( Bro . Dart ) took steps to secure the foundation of that lodge he had received the most valuable assistance from Bro . Birch , who was in every way entitled to the great honour vvhich the brethren had bestowed upon him by placing him in the chair of K . S . The toast having been enthusiastically received , the W .

Master responded , and alluded to the singular unanimity which existed in the St . Clair Lodge from the date of its constitution down to the present . That highly satisfactory state of things he trusted would long continue , and , as far as he was concerned , it would be his ' study to discharge his duties in such a manner as to afford satisfaction to the brethren and to redound to the credit of the lodge . He

proposed "The Health of the I . P . M . " The I . P . M ., in responding , dwelt upon the great progress which the lodge had made during the three years it had been in existence . Commencing with 29 members , the lodge now numbered 129 , and there were signs of great prosperity on every hand . The Iodge had Life Governorships in two of the great Masonic Charities , and he hoped

that in the coming year they would have a third . The toast of "The Past Masters" was proposed by the W . M ., and responded to by Bro . John Brickwood , P . M . Bro . the Rev . H . Mason , Chaplain , proposed "The Charities , " which vvas acknowledged by Bro . G . F . Lancaster , P . M .

"The Visitors , " proposed by the S . W ., was acknowledged by Bros , the Rev . J . H . Anderson and Dr . Griffiths . The W . M . proposed "The W . M . ' s of Neighbouring Ledges , " to which Bro . Major Campbell , W . M . 257 , and Ihe W . M . of 1958 , replied . The proceedings were agreeably interspersed by several excellent songs .

ballot was then taken for Mr . Jas . Renshaw , which proved to be favourable , after vvhich he vvas initiated . There vvere also two passings and one raising , all the ceremonies being performed by Bro . J . E . Boden , W . M ., in a most competent manner ; in fact , considering the youth of the lodge , the whole of the officers did their work remarkably well , and we sincerely wish them a continue of the success with

which they have commenced . The lodge vvas then closed , and the brethren retired to refreshment . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts vvere given and responded to , and a most enjoyable evening vvas spent . We are pleased to say the pressure of business was so great , that . the W . Mills , Burall , Lancasterand Townsend j and the initiation of Messrs .

M . said it was customary on these occasions to present the retiring W . M . vvith a Past Master ' s jewel , but as Bro . Dart already possessed that decoration it had been determined to ask his acceptance of a suit of Provincial Grand Lodge regalia for himself and a silver tea service for Mrs .

Dart . He paid Bro .
