Provincial Meetings.
After the usual loyal toasts had been honoured with appropriate enthusiasm , that of " The Grand Officers " was responded to by the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , who alluded in eloquent terms to the marvellous bond of brotherhood which brought together Prince and subjects . In an experience of many years he had been struck with the great growth of the Order under the Grand Lodge of
England , and the beneficent work which had followed in its steps . Their rulers were good in tn and true , and ruled in a truly Masonic manner . All the Grand Officers were warm and active in supporting their Order for the good it did and the spirit which actuates it . The Worshipful Master proposed "The Health of the R . W . Prov . Grand Master , Lord Leigh , the Deputy Prov .
Grand Master , and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " and said Lord Leigh , as the oldest Prov . Grand Master in England , was so beloved in his province for the active manner in which he discharged his duties . Bro . Collins again responded in very eloquent term j , and thanked the brethren most heartily for the kind manner in
which the combined toast had been received . He alluded to ihe recent important meeting held to hear Bro . Sudlow expound in such an easy and elegant manner the ritual of the Emulation Lodge of Improvement , and other matters in which the brethren of the province had taken great interest and supported their officers . He especially acknowledged the kind way in which they alluded to him and his
work as Deputy Prov . Grand Master . Bro . Johnson , P . P . G . Reg ., also responded . In the unavoidable absence of the I . P . M ., the toast of "The Worshipful Master" was proposed by theS . W ., who alluded to the steady and persevering way in which Bro . Ginder had worked up through the various offices to the proud position all were so glad to see him occupy that
evening . The W . M . brielly acknowledged the kind and cordial way in which the toast had been received . He was proud to occupy the position , towards which he had looked for some time , and meant to do all he could to make the year one of continued success for the lodge . The Charity-box in this lodge is a great institution , and
was for the first time in the care of the new Charity Steward , Bro . C . J . Collins , and it was announced that the sum of £ 15 15 s . had been realised , and this was ultimately increased to £ 40 17 s . Gd . amidst the plaudits of the brethren . The toast of " The Masonic Charities " was proposed by Bro . Lee , as the oldest Past Master , and supplemented by
Bro . James Moffat , P . P . G . Reg . Bro . Moffat congratulated his successor in the office of Charity Steward on having such a good start , and nothing would give him more pleasure than to find his recordduring the nine years he had held the position , and in which he had been able by the generous help of the brethren to send to the various Charities a grand total of £
2300——beaten by Bro . Collins . He was glad to have been the means of bringing Bro . McLeod down to them , for he felt that much good was done by the visits of the Secretaries of the Institutions into the provinces , and he commended that fact to the notice of the D . P . G . M . In response , Bro . J . M . McLeod expressed his obligations to Bro . Moffat for the valuable services he had
rendered to the three Institutions during so many years past ; also for giving him this splendid opportunity of making the acquaintance of the Warwickshire brethren . It was true , as had been just said , that the delegation work of the executive officers of our great Charities did much to promote a generous support and kindly feeling towards them , and was the means of imparting useful information ,
removing doubts , and restoring confidence in the working of the Institutions of which they all were so proud . It was the first opportunity that had been afforded to him to visit this province and he was , therefore , especially grateful to Bro . Moffat and the brethren of this good and highly charitable lodge . Bro . McLcod proceeded to sketch what was the work of the Institutions , and the benefits being
yearly and increasingly conferred by their operations . I le particularly referred to the great changes effected in the Boys' School , and the vast improvements shown thereby , also to the ever constant care of the Board of Management of that Institution that the boys under their charge should receive the fullest possible benefits from the money so generously contributed by the Craft
at large . He had seen it stated that in the managements of their elections of boys from that province , Warwickshire had not received its full share for the money it subscribed . He thought that was a narrow interpretation of what constituted " Charity , " and was certain the brethren generally , when donating , did not for one moment think of getting a "full return" for their own especial
cases or advantage . But on reference he found the fact to be the very reverse of what had so been stated ; and that , so far as the Boys' School was concerned , that during six years past it had received from the province £ 946 us ., and had returned , in the cost of maintaining , educating , and clothing their boys , £ 1248 . This being the case , he was sure he need make no special appeal to
the brethren to continue their liberality , and felt certain the balance now against the province would be soon restored . The toast of " The Visitors , " proposed by Bro . Lee , was responded to by several brethren , and , other toasts having hcen duly honoured , an enjoyable and eventful evening was closed with perfect harmony .
