Provincial Meetings.

All business being ended , the lodge was closed , and the brethren sat down to an excellent banquet , the caterer being Bro . Boyce , who deserves great credit for his exertions in ministering to the comfort of the brethren . The various toasts were given in an able manner by the

newly-installed W . M ., and the manner in which he carried out the duties of the chair promises well for a successful year of office . The musical arrangements , which largely contributed to the evening ' s enjoyment , were under the able superintendence of Bro . J . Baker Guy , Org .

KETTERING . Perseverance Lodge ( No . 455 ) . —The annual festival and installation meeting of this lodge was held on Monday , the 16 th inst . O . ving to the extremely large number of brethren attending , the lodge was held at the Assembly Rooms ( by dispensation ) . The lodge was opened , and after preliminary business , the W . M . elect , Bro . Thomas Pager , P . P . G . S . B . Norths and Hunts , was

duly presented and installed in the chair of K . S ., the ceremony , which was choral , being ably performed by the retiring W . M ., Bro . G . Abbot f . The lodge was attended by Bro . Bu ler Wilkins , D . P . G . M . Norths and Hunts , P . A . G . D . C . Eng . ; Bro . S . S . Partridge , D . P . G . M . Leicester and Rutland , P . A . G . D . C . Eng . ; and about 40 Past Masters of lodges in the other provinces . This large ga hering sneaks volumes for the popularity and esteem in which Bro . Paget is held in this and neighbouring

provinces . After the lodge was closed , the brethren , to the number of over 90 , partook of a banquet under the presidency of the W . M ., Bro . Paget . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . Part idge , P . A . G . D . C . Eng ., responded to the toast of "The M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales

and the Granl Lodge Oflfi ers , Present and Past" in an excellent speech , and Bro . Butler Wilkins , D . P . G . M ., responded infelicitous terms to thi toast of "The K . W . Prov . G . M . Norths and Hunts , and Provincial Grand Lodges . " Bro . C Beunion , W . M . 279 , and others responded on behalf of " The Visitors . "

The toast of the evening , " The Health of Bro . Thos . Paget , W . M . of the Lodge , " was proposed by Bro . G . Abbott , I . P . M ., in a genial and fraternal manner , and was received and drunk with the greatest enthusiasm and musical honours . The W . M ., in a terse and feeling speech , acknowledged the high honour done him in placing him in the chair , and

also for the large and friendly gathering of brethren who had assembled to assist on that occasion—one of the proudest of his life . He assured the brethren that his best efforts should be devoted to the furtherance of the welfare of the Perseverance Lodge , and that , so far as his abilities enabled him . he would endeavour to uphold the ancient excellence of the lodge , so that at the end of his

year of office it should not have deteriorated , but he hoped , in some small measure , it should have advanced . In the course of his speech , the W . M . replied to some remarks let fall by Bro . Wilkins , D . P . G . M ., as to the desirability of further extending Mark Masonry in the province of Norths and Hunts , assuring him that the matter should have his attention , and he would endeavour to make some

progress in the same during his year . He , the W . M ., felt that this was the more desirable , as the D . G . M . of M . M . M . was their own Prov . G . M . in Norths and Hunts , and he hoped that the brethren would support him . After a few further remarks , the W . M . resumed his chair

Loyal Berkshire Lodge of Hope ( No . 574 ) . —The installation meeting ot this lodge was held at the Temperance Hall , on FViday afternoon , the Gth inst ., under the presidency of the retiring W . M ., Bro . F . J . Harrold , who installed as his successor the S . W ., Bro . E . Hill . He was much complimented upon the able and

impressive manner in which he had performed the ceremony . The newly-elected W . M . then proceeded to appoint and invest the officers for the ensuing year , and also invested Bro . Harrold with the collar of I . P . M . In doing so he thanked Bro . Harrold , on behalf of the brethren generally , for the efficient service :, he had rendered during the past year . The Worshipful Master successively proposed the toasts of " The Oueen and the Craft " and " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales . lvI . W . Grand Master ; the M . W . the Pro Grand Master , the Earl of Lathom ; the R . W . the Deputy Grand Master ; and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " Bro . Astley then proposed "The Health of the V . W . the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Berks , Bro . I . T .

Morland ; and the rest of the Provincial Grand Officers , Present and Past , " associated with the name of Bro . Cosburn . Bro . Cosburn , in responding , alluded to the admirable and efficient manner in which Bro . Morland had conducted the affairs of the province since the lamented death of the Duke of Clarence , 12 months ago , and expressed his personal obligations to Bro . Morland for the great amount of

time and attention he had devoted to the editing of " The Berkshire Masonic Register and Calendar , " which was now in course of publication for the second year . Bro . Hawkins , P . M ., gave the toast of the evening" The Health of the Newly-Installed Worshipful Master , Bro . Hill "—wishing him good health and a prosperous year of office , and assuring him that he would have the full support and sympathy of his officers during his term of

office . The Worshipful Master made a suitable response . Bro . Hanington , P . M ., in submitting the toast of "The Masonic Charities , " explained that those Charities included Institutions that enabled those who , through no fault of their own , but through some misadventure in life , had fallen into reduced circumstances . There were three great Institutions connected with Masonry which specially

commended themselves to the sympathy and support of all true Masons . First there was the Benevolent institution for aged and infirm Masons and widows . Next the Girls ' School , and then the Boys' School , one and all being deserving of support . He was pleased to state that the amount this year was simply marvellous , £ 90 , 465 3 s . 5 d ., viz ., Benevolent , £ 61 , 849 2 S - ° d . ; Boys , £ 13 , 837 iSs . iod . ; and Girls , £ 12 , 778 2 s . id . Yet the necessitous cases were

increasing , and the funds , although large , never seemed sufficient to adequately meet the many calls made upon them . Charity was one ol the very first things they were taught . They were taught to be loyal , honest , and true , and not forget their poorer brethren . Masonry was ever growing , extending , and increasing , and he trusted that each year would prove to the outside world that Masons did not forget their poorer brethren , but in t mes of joy

and prosperity they did not forget those who as fellow Craftsmen were deserving of help and sympathy . The name of Bro . Maples , who had been a liberal supporter of the Masonic Charities , was coupled with the toast , and Bro . Maples returned thanks in appropriate terms . Bro . W . H . Belcher , P . M ., proposed ' * The Health of the Visitors , " for whom Bro . Lamb briefly replied , thanking the brethren for the hearty reception which they had given

him . Bro . Stephen Knight , P . M ., in eulogistic language proposed "The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . Harrold , " who acknowledged the compliment . "The Health of the Initiate" was proposed by the W . M ., and responded to by Bro . Pillin . Bro . William Knight gave the toast of "The immediate Past Master and other Past Masters of the Lodge of Hope ,

574 , for whom Bro . Harrold responded . Bro . Beynon proposed "The Health of the Treasurer ( Bro . Belcher ) , the Secretary ( Bro . S . Knight ) , and the Assistant secretary ( Bro . A . VV . Neate ) , " each of whom returned thanks . Bro . Neate gave the toast of "The Wardens and Officers of the Lodge , " for whom the Senior Warden , Bro . J . N .

Day , suitably returned thanks . The Tj ler ' s toast was then given , after which the brethren sang the National Anthem , and the festive proceedings were brought to a satisfactory conclusion . In the course of the evening several excellent songs were rendered by Bros . Cozens , Beynon , Hawkins , Stradling , and others .
