Reports Of Masonic Meetings.

On the removal of the cloth , the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , and in proposing that of the evening , the W . M ., Past Master Elgey said he rose to discharge an agreeable and important duty , and after calling on the brethren of the lodge , and the visiting brethren to assist him in giving an enthusiastic and sympathetic greeting to Bro . Porritt , alluded briefly , and bore the highest testimony to his many and varied qualifications , and the

able and zealous manner in which he discharged the duties of VV . M . His retentive memory and pleasant delivery were great gifts , such as were rarely to be found amongst Masons , and enabled him to give the important parts of the ritual in such a manner that every brother and every visitor could enjoy every part of the ceremony . Called upon to assume the Master ' s chair by the unanimous solicitation of the brethren , and after the lodge had passed through a

period of division and luke warmness , he had been successful in extinguishing the embers of discontent with that prompt and energetic action which characterised all his movements . He had adjusted grievances , consolidated the finances , and rallied round him an enthusiastic set of officers , each of whom had endeavoured to excell in his respective duties . The VV . M . responded in suitable terms , and appeared much affected . He thanked Past Master

Elgey for the very kind sentiments he had expressed towards him . He assured the brethren of his great appreciation of their confidence and kindness . His connection with the lodge had been one of pride , friendship , and unmitigated pleasure ; he had the greatest regard for the past , was pleased with the present , and anticipated a glorious future for the brethren of the Sykes Lodge . Having previously filled the Master ' s chair six times in his

Masonic career , his feelings on this occasion were greatly f ratified by seeing before him a larger number of faces than ad for a long time past surrounded their festive board , and he could assure them , and especially his officers , that , in ackowledging the great compliment they had paid him , he should never forget the great kindness and consideration the brethren had shown him , and the able and efficient manner in which his officers had laboured to assist him , or

be unmindful of the great and solemn responsibilities of his office . Other toasts followed , the harmony of the evening being contributed to by Bros . Jas . An admirable banquet was prepared at the Fleece Hotel , notoriously one of the best houses in England for wines and cookery , and the brethren enjoyed a very happy evening interspersed with harmony .

The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed . The lodge was opened in the Second Degree . Bro . Coughlan answered the questions leading to the Third Degree and was entrusted . The lodge was opened in the Third Degree , and the ceremony of raising rehearsed , Bro . Coughlan being the

candidate . The lodge was closed in the Third Degree . The lodge was closed in the Second Degree . Bro . Wray , Preceptor , worked the Second Section of this lecture . The W . acting Preceptor , and others . Lodge was duly opened , and after due formalities Bro . Jolly was tested and entrusted , and subsequently the ceremony of raising was carefully worked , Bro . Aynsley being heartily congratulated at the conclusion of the ceremony . Bro . Stephens , Preceptor , next worked the traditional history and the Third Section of the Lecture ,

great attention being paid to the working so as to secure efficiency and a thorough knowledge of the work in hand . Bro . J . J . Howes , S . VV . of the mother lodge , was elected W . M . for the first lodge meeting in the new year , and Bro . G . H . Stephens , W . M . 1 G 23 , arranged to work the Three Craft ceremonies on the last Monday evening in December . The minutes having been read and confirmed , the Preceptor , assisted by the brethren , worked the three first Sections of the First Degree . The VV . M . then rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Williams being the candidate . Bro . Meyer having ' answered thc questions leading from the Second to the Third Degree , two brethren were

proposed and elected joining members , making upwards of 100 members that have joined this lodge since its commencement in May last . The S . W . was then voted to occupy the chair of K . S . at the next meetig ( which will be held on the 3 rd of January next ) , and appointed his officers . A Tyler was then appointed , and nothing further offering for the good of Freemasonry , lodge was closed . Brethren are cordially invited to the next meeting , as it will be a musical evening .

I ' . S . ttne r . s . will appoint his Assistants at the next meeting ) ; J . S . Farnfield , P . Z ., Treas . ; and Church , Janitor . The installation ceremony was admirably performed by M . E . Comp . T . Griffiths , P . Z ., assisted by Comps . F . A . White , P . Z ., and Miller , P . Z . Comp . J . P . Curtis , P . Z . 6 S 3 , was unanimously elected a joining member , and the ballot was taken for Bro . A . H . Strong , i >; S ^ and 2012 .

Griffiths , to be inscribed on the minutes of the chapter , for the admirable manner in which he had carried out the duties

of Installing Officer , was tendered that esteemed companion , and he briefly returned thanks . The chapter was then closed , and the companions sat down to an elegantly served banquet . 255 ; VV . lyler , 59 ; and C . Jolly , 913 ( Freemason ) . The usual loyal and Royal Arch Masonic toasts having been duly honoured , the I . P . Z . rose to propose the toast of "The M . E . Z ., " Comp . Barr , and in so doing , said it was a toast he felt sure every one around that board , and he was sorry that there were not more present , would drink with all the enthusiasm it deserved . It needed no commendation

from him , for the subject of it , their M . E . Comp . Barr , had proved himself worthy of the position he now occupied in every way . He had gone through the chair of the mother lodge with credit , and that augured well for the good government of the chapter under his sway ; as a younger mason than Comp . Barr he should not sound his trumpet further , but would ask them to drink tbe toast , and wish their worth

y M . E . Z . "a merry Christmas and a happy new year . " The M . E . Z ., who on rising to respond was received with cheers , said he had but very little to say for himself , although it would require an extensive vocabulary to return thanks adequately for the very kind words spoken of him b y Comp . Porritt , alluded briefly , and bore the highest testimony to his many and varied qualifications , and the

able and zealous manner in which he discharged the duties of VV . M . His retentive memory and pleasant delivery were great gifts , such as were rarely to be found amongst Masons , and enabled him to give the important parts of the ritual in such a manner that every brother and every visitor could enjoy every part of the ceremony . Called upon to assume the Master ' s chair by the unanimous solicitation of the brethren , and after the lodge had passed through a

period of division and luke warmness , he had been successful in extinguishing the embers of discontent with that prompt and energetic action which characterised all his movements . He had adjusted grievances , consolidated the finances , and rallied round him an enthusiastic set of officers , each of whom had endeavoured to excell in his respective duties . The VV . M . responded in suitable terms , and appeared much affected . He thanked Past Master

Elgey for the very kind sentiments he had expressed towards him . He assured the brethren of his great appreciation of their confidence and kindness . His connection with the lodge had been one of pride , friendship , and unmitigated pleasure ; he had the greatest regard for the past , was pleased with the present , and anticipated a glorious future for the brethren of the Sykes Lodge . Having previously filled the Master ' s chair six times in his

Masonic career , his feelings on this occasion were greatly f ratified by seeing before him a larger number of faces than ad for a long time past surrounded their festive board , and he could assure them , and especially his officers , that , in ackowledging the great compliment they had paid him , he should never forget the great kindness and consideration the brethren had shown him , and the able and efficient manner in which his officers had laboured to assist him , or
