He thanked them for proposing the toast , and again wished every prosperity to the Palatine Lodge , under whose auspices he first saw the light of Masonry . Bro . J . C . Moor , I . P . M ., then proposed the toast of "The W . M ., " Uro . J . R . Pattison . " He believed that by courtesy and ability the newly-installed W . M . would ampl y verify the choice they had made , and uphold the dignity and

honour of the Palatine Lodge . In all the offices he had filled in the lodge , Bro . , by the lodge to Bro . Hardy , P . M ., who for 40 years very ably served the lodge , and on whose decease the box was purchased by Sir Henry Fenwick for 50 guineas and presented to the lodge . On the occasion of the presentation of the box , 50 years ago , Sir Cuthbert Sharp was the VV . M . At the festival , half a century ago , he was supported by the P . G . M . of the time , Lord Durham , also at the time

the D . G . M . of England , and by Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., M . P ., and other distinguished brethren , who at that distant date had honoured their lodge by their presence . He was sure they one and all wished the dignity and honour of the lodge to be maintained , and in the newlyinstalled VV . M . he was certain they had one who would remember the traditions of the Palatine , and do honour to

the chair . The toast was given with musical honours , after which , The W . M ., Bro . J . R . Pattison , in appropriate terms , acknowledged the kind way in which the toast had been proposed and received by the brethren . Bro . B . Levy , P . M . 97 , P . P . G . J . promote the future prosperity and success of the Palatine Lodge . The W . M . briefly proposed "The health of Bro . T . M . Watson , P . M ., " who had so ably and kindly assisted Bro . Moor in the installation ceremony . Bro . T . M . Watson , P . M ., suitably replied . Bro . R . Hudson , P . G . Sec , proposed the toast of "The Present and Past Oflicers of thc Lodge . " He said they

had duly honoured the toast of the VV . M ., and that of the I . P . He hoped all who had been appointed to oflice that day would do their best to discharge thc duties of their several offices , while the Wardens would remember how much they could assist the W . which he had displayed in connection with the jubileeof the lodge . He then in suitable terms , on behalf of the lodge , presented to Bro . Bromley a splendid Past Master's jewel . On the ribbon is a Neo Grec or Etruscan vase in gold , with a fillet from the verge of the shoulder , on which is inscribed the name of the lodge , the terminals of cover and foot being formed of the acanthus leaf . On the

obverse side of the jewel is a suitable inscription , viz .: — " Presented as a mark of esteem by the brethren of the Menturia Lodge , to their worthy brother , John Bromley , P . M ., December 16 , 1884 . " Bro . Bromley in a neat speech , which was cordially received , expressed his grateful thanks for the kindness of the brethren of the lodge . Afte . a short interval he

cordiality , Bro . J . Charlesworth proposed " The Masonic Charities , " observing that the more he saw of Freemasonry the better he liked it . There was a sanctity and harmony about the proceedings in a Masonic lodge which made him anxious to devote some time to it . Charity was the very essence of Freemasonry , and the Masonic Charities were doing a splendid work , and it was gratifying to know that

they were well supported in Staffordahire , and particularly by the Menturia Lodge . Bro . Taylor , in an ; excellent speech in commendation of the Masonic Charities in London , and of the noble work done by the Staffordshire Masonic Charitable Association , responded . The Tyler ' s toast concluded the list . During the evening vocal music was supplied , and the proceedings were harmonious throughout .

CARMARTHEN . —St . Peter's Lodge ( No . 476 ) . —On the 16 th inst . there was ] a large assemblage of the members of the above lodge at the lodge room , and a very fair sprinkling of visitors , to witness the installation of Bro . Howell Howells as W . M . The W . M . has fairly earned his right to his position by his faithful service in subordinate positions in the lodge , and we were glad to see so many

Past Masters present to welcome him into their ranks . " lt goes without saying " that Bro . Howell Howells , having so faithfully ( served the lodge in the various offices he has filled , will take care that the honour of his lodge shall not suffer in his hands , but shall be handed down to his successor with , at least , undiminished splendour , for Bro . Howells now has the pleasure and honour of presiding over the

premier lodge of the Western Division of South Wales . The ceremony of installation was performed by Bro . Hutchins , P . M ., in a very effective manner . The following is a list of the officers for the ensuing year : Bros . T . Jones , I . P . M . ; W . Lewis Hughes , S . W . ; J . A . J . Timmins , J . W . ; Rev . T . Rus Walters , Chap . ; John Morris , Treas . ; H . Cadle , Sec ; Rev . C G . Brown , S . D . ; T . Walters ,

D . G . Williams had prepared a very capital spread , which was done full justice to , after which the usual loyal , patriotic , and Masonic toasts were given and responded to in the way usual amongst brethren of the Craft . Not the least

interesting of the musical portion of the evening ' s entertainment was a Masonic part song , composed by the son of the W . M . for the occasion . No onc was more surprised than the VV . M . at this , as he was unaware of the fact . Mr . Willie Howells is well known in London musical circles as a very promising tenor , and as a composer of no mean ability . This song , if Mr . Howells publishes it , cannot fail to become a favourite in the Masonic world . The company broke up after a most enjoyable evening .

the presidency of Bro . Elgey , P . M ., Treas ., the officers for the year entertained their esteemed W . M . to supper , provided in truly Yorkshire fashion by Bro . Atkin , this being the first occasion on which Bro . Atkin had the pleasure of entertaining the brethren , having only recently been initiated , and , so far , passed the degree of a Fellow Craft at the last meeting of the lodge .

which he had displayed in connection with the jubileeof the lodge .

Bro .
