" The Health of the Visitors " was responded to by Bro . A . Clark , P . M ., who said that the visitors must have spent a most pleasant and enjoyable evening . They had been received with great warmth and cordiality , and the working was a treat to be long remembered . Bro . G . W . Churchley , P . P . G . S . Kent , also expressed feelings of great satisfaction in seeing the good working

and the good fellowship that existed in the lodge . The W . M ., in proposing " The Health of the P . Ms ., " regretted the absence of two who were missed very much . They had with them Bro . E . Jacobs , P . M ., their careful Treasurer ; Bro . VV . Bourne , P . M ., their excellent Sec ; and Bro . S . Jacobs , P . M . and S . W . All did their work in a very satisfactory manner , and proved their desire to

further the interests of the lodge . The P . Ms , made a suitable reply . In proposing "The Health of the Officers , " the VV . M . again regretted the absence of two , but great credit was due to those who had undertaken their places . Bro . A . W . S . had now acted as I . G . for the third time this

session and gave great satisfaction . Bro . T . A . Dickson , acting as J . W ., acknowledged the toast in their honour , assuring the W . M . it always gave him great pleasure to work with him . Bros . Bourne , P . M ., C . Ralph , S . Jacobs , P . M ., and Churchley , P . M ., contributed to the pleasure of the evening by their vocal abilities and recitations .

TEMPLE BAR LODGE ( No . 1728 ) . —This flourishing lodge met at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , on the iSth inst ., Bro . T . VV . C . Bush , VV . M ., in the chair , assisted by Bros . G . S . Recknell , S . W . ; Kimpton , J . W . ; A . R . Carter , acting S . D . ; the assistant officers of the lodge , and the following visitors : Bros . Volney-Keen , P . M . 203 , and G . Perry , P . M . mo .

The minutes of the last meeting being read and confirmed , Mr . Walter Jullyan was balloted for , and unanimously elected ; but , being absent , was not initiated . Bro . G . C . Spurgin was then raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M ., and Bros . Webb and Snow were passed to the F . C . Degree . After the foregoing ceremonies had been performed in Bro . Bush ' s wonted impressive manner , the members of the

lodge proceeded to elect their W . M . for the coming year . The ballot proved unanimous in favour of the present S . W ., Bro . G . S . Recknell , and the W . M . intimated that fact to the brother , who thanked the brethren . Bro . Buckworth was then unanimously re-elected Treasurer , and Bros . Rixworthy and Rolls were appointed to serve on the Audit Committee . The lodge then voted the sum of 20 guineas

to the list of Bro . Recknell , who purposes serving as Steward at the approaching Festival of the Benevolent Institution . The sum of 10 guineas was then voted for a testimonial to Bro . Bush on his quitting the chair of K . S . for the second time , and the usual guinea was ordered to be sent to the Benevolent Institution for the annual Christmas treat . The brethren then adjourned to the banquet .

After a plentiful spread , in which the elements of Christmas cheer largely predominated , the W . M . rose to propose the toasts , which , owing to the [ lateness of the hour , were greatly curtailed . After the usual Masonic toasts , which followed in rapid succession , the W . M . rose to propose " Long Life and Happiness to our VV . M . elect . " In thc course of his remarks the W . M . reminded thebrethren

of that evening , now seven years ago , when the worthy brother entered the lodge as its first initiate . The W . M . traced his progress step by step through every office in the lodge . He enumerated the hundred and one qualities which endeared the brother to every member of the Temple Bar Lodge , and in conclusion he saluted him by the first titles of the sublime oflice to which hc had been elected .

The brethren having drunk the toast with musical honours , the W . M . elect rose to reply . He recalled the fact that as a Lewis he took precedence on the evening of his initiation . In thanking the brethren for their confidence in himself , he dwelt for a moment on the good will and mutual regard which had always been evinced by every member of the lodge , and he claimed the assistance of one

and all of the brethren during his year of office . The qualities which have endeared the W . M . to his brethren in the lodge , and indeed to the whole Craft , were then lightly touched upon by Bro . Butcher , P . M ., in proposing " The Health of Bro . Bush , " which was drunk with musical honours . To this Bro . Bush replied in his inimitable style . "The Visitors , " replied to by Bros . Keen and Perry ; The

" Treasurer , " replied toby Bro . Buckworth , I . P . M . ; and "The Past Masters , " to which Bro . Butcher , P . M ., gave a short response , were next given , and after " The Officers " had all responded in their turn , the Tyler's toast closed one of the happiest evenings ever passed in the Temple Bar . In the course of the evening Bros . Williams , Rolls , Kimpton , Perry , Keen , and Carter contributed songs and recitations for the amusement of the brethren .

CREATON LODGE ( No . 1791 ) . —This lodge held its regular election meeting on Thursday , the nth inst ., at Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street . The lodge was heavily draped in black in memory of their esteemed late Past Master , Bro . Col . J . Creaton , P . M ., P . G . T ., & c . The following members were present : Bros . VV . Thomas Joseph Head , who was a candidate for initiation , was balloted for and unanimously elected , and in due course initiated into the lightof Freemasonry , the VV . M . performing both ceremonies in an excellent manner , and the general working of the lodge giving great satislaction to all present . The next business was to elect the W . M . for the ensuing year

by ballot , which resulted in the unanimous election of Bro . D . Ferguson , S . W . The old and esteemed friend of the lodge , Bro . E . Thurkle , P . M ., was again re-elected to thc oflice of Treasurer , which office he has held since the formation of the lodge , and for his excellent services the brethren are about to present him with a testimonial at thc next meeting as a mark of their appreciation of him and

and his services to thc lodge . Bros . G . Whitaker , C . R . Cross , and A . J . Taylor were elected Auditors . The removal of the Creaton Lodge of Instruction to the Wheats-heaf Tavern , Goldhawk-road , Shepherd ' s Bush , was sanctioned . Bro . J . Williams , P . M ., proposed that the usual Past Master's jewel be provided and presented to the VV . M . for the able manner in which he had conducted thc

lodge during his year of office , and was seconded by Bro . J . J . Cantle , P . M ., who in the name of the members thanked the W . M . for having relieved the lodgeof its debt by his excellent management . Bro . Cantle , P . M ., informed the brethren that he had met with so many questions concerning the decease and burial ot the late esteemed brother and first Master of the lodge , Bro . Col .

Creaton , that he felt it his duty to say a few words upon the subject . He had been informed upon undoubted authority that our esteemed brother had died , as he had lived for nearly 40 years , a thorough Mason in heart and principle , and did not renounce our Order in his last moments as bad been stated . The hymn for the burial of the dead ( " Day of Wrath , " & c ) was sung by the brethren , and the lodge

was closed with solemn prayer in perfect harmony . The brethren held their banquet at the Holborn Restaurant , when the usual toasts were given . The W . M . in one of his speeches thanked the officers for the great assistance they had given him during his year of office , likewise the Past Masters for their good advice , and the Secretary for the admirable way in which he had performed his duties . Bros . Brindley , Burden , Walsh , and Studd

replied for " The Visitors , " each expressing their regret at the bereavement the lodge had met with , and felt sure that if that night ' s workings could be taken as an example thc brethren were building a living monument to the memory of him whose name the lodge bears . Some excellent music was given during the evening ( as is always the case with this lodge ) by Bros . H . D . Martin , A . Thomas , J . Kift , A . Weston , and J . I . Cantle .

QUEEN'S WESTMINSTER LODGE ( No . 2021 ) . —The second year of this highly successful lodge was inaugurated at the Masonic Hall , Sa , Red Lion-square , Holborn , on Tuesday , the 16 th inst . Present : Bros . G . Lambert , P . G . S . B ., W . M . ; C . Probyn , S . W . ; R . Payne , J . W . ; C . Bellerby , Treas . ; G . Coop , Sec ; H . C . Lambert , S . D . ; Alexander Jones , I . G . ; W . Bayley , D . C ;

Livett , Kempton , Strugnell , Canning , Kingdon , Hunt , Brotheridge , Rowe , Payne , Hodges , Nugent , Godfrey , Fowley , Birch , Currie , Jordan , Walters , and Cross . Visitors * . Bros . The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the November meeting were read , confirmed , and

signed . A ballot was taken for Messrs . Daniell , Aitchison , and Harnell , and proving unanimous in their favour , those gentlemen were duly admitted into the Craft . The report of the Audit Committee was then read and adopted , and ordered to be entered on the minutes . Bro . C . Probyn , W . M . elect , was presented by Bro . G . Lambert for the benefit of installation , which was admirably performed by

that excellent worker , Bro . R . Payne , J . VV ., P . M . 1328 . After the usual preliminaries , and the brethren re-admitted , the W . M . wassaluted according to the accustomed form , and appointed his officers as follows : Bros . R . Payne , S . VV . ; H . C . Lambert , P . G . D . Herts , J . W . ; C . Bellerby , Treas . ; G . T . Bradley , Tyler . The rest of the officers , having been named , will be invested at the January meeting . Bro . Probyn , VV . M ., then , in a few well-chosen words , presented a Past Master ' s jewel and a beautifully-painted vellum to Bro . G . Lambert , I . P . M ., thereby testif y ing to the hearty affection and esteem that worthy Mason is held in by every member of the lodge .

The address was as follows : "Queen ' s Westminster Lodge , No . 2021 . —To Worshipful Brother G . Lambert , P . G . S . B ., P . G . W . Herts , P . M . 198 , 504 , 2021 , P . Z . 7 and 21 . This testimonial is presented by the founders and other brethren of the Queen ' s Westminster Lodge , No . 2031 , as a mark of their sincere esteem , and in grateful recognition of his valuable influence and services exerted in

the formation of the lodge ; also of his liberality and the courteous and efficient manner in which he presided over it as its first Worshipful Master , A . L . 5883 , 5884 , A . D . 11-83 , 1 S 84 . " The name of every * , memberof the lodge follows the above . Bro . Lambert feelingly responded . Bro . R . Cross , for many years surgeon-maior of the Queen ' s Westminster

Volunteers and P . M . of the Percy Lodge , thanked the brethren for unanimously electing him an honorary member of the lodge . Letters having been read from several brethren regretting their inability to attend , Bro . Strugnell , P . M . of the Farringdon Without Lodge , having mentioned it was his desire to represent the lodge at the

forthcoming festival of the Benevolent Institution , was unanimously chosen . All Masonic business being concluded , several of the brethren adjourned to the Holborn Restaurant , when the usual Masonic toasts were duly honoured . The installation banquet is unavoidably postponed to the January meeting , when a large gathering is expected .

The choice fell respectively upon Bro . F . Plowman , S . W ., as W . M . elect , and Bro . F . Rossiter , P . M ., was re-elected Treasurer . The Tyler , Stewards , and Auditors having been chosen , on the proposition of Bro . Hennah , P . M ., the sum of £ 10 ios . was voted towards lhe Girls' School . The VV . M . and Bro . Russell elected to represent the lodge at the forthcoming Festival , when the Prov . Grand Master of

Sussex will preside . It was unanimously decided to present a P . M . ' s jewel to the VV . M . on the completion of his year of office , as a mark of esteem of the brethren . A gentleman having been proposed for initiation , and " Hearty good wishes" expressed by the visitors , the lodge was closed in due form , and the brethren adjourned to a well-spread collation . After an excellent dinner , which was served in a faultless manner , had been partaken of , the Worshipful Master proposed , in regular order , " The Queen , " " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . G . M ., " "'lhe Earl of Carnarvon , Earl Lathom , and Officers of Grand Lodge , " which were heartily received . The Worshipful Master next proposed " Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., acting P . G . M .. tand thc Officers of the

Prov . Grand Lodge of Durham , Present and Past . " He did so with mingled feelings of pleasure and regret—pleasure in seeing so many present to do honour to the Palatine Lodge and partly to himself , and regret that he had not the honour of proposing "The Provincial Grand Master , the Marquis ot Londonderry , " whose loss they al ! deeply lamented . He coupled with the toast the name of Bro . R .

Hudson , P . G . S ., a brother whom they all esteemed—and rightly esteemed—from the manner in which he discharged the duties of his important office . The toast was received with applause . Bro . R . Hudson , P . G . Sec , in responding , trusted that the year they were entering upon , inithe Palatine Lodge , might be one of prosperity to the lodge , as well as to the Craft , and that the prestige the lodge held a quarter of a

century ago , and had fully maintained , would be continued . He had always received from them a kind reception when he had come amongst them , and it would always be a pleasure to him to think of his brethren in Freemasonry . The other Provincial Ollicers had very kindly assisted him in the past , and he trusted their efforts would continue to merit their approval . They had , indeed , sustained a great loss in the sudden death of their P . G . M ., the Marquis of Londonderry , who had taken so great an interest in Masonry .

TEMPLE BAR LODGE ( No . 1728 ) . —This flourishing lodge met at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street , on the iSth inst ., Bro . T . VV . C . Bush , VV . M ., in the chair , assisted by Bros . G . S . Recknell , S . W . ; Kimpton , J . W . ; A . R . Carter , acting S . D . ; the assistant officers of the lodge , and the following visitors : Bros . Volney-Keen , P . M . 203 , and G . Perry , P . M . mo .

The minutes of the last meeting being read and confirmed , Mr . Walter Jullyan was balloted for , and unanimously elected ; but , being absent , was not initiated . Bro . G . C . Spurgin was then raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M ., and Bros . Webb and Snow were passed to the F . C . Degree . After the foregoing ceremonies had been performed in Bro . Bush ' s wonted impressive manner , the members of the

lodge proceeded to elect their W . M . for the coming year . The ballot proved unanimous in favour of the present S . W ., Bro . G . S . Recknell , and the W . M . intimated that fact to the brother , who thanked the brethren . Bro . Buckworth was then unanimously re-elected Treasurer , and Bros . Rixworthy and Rolls were appointed to serve on the Audit Committee . The lodge then voted the sum of 20 guineas

to the list of Bro . Recknell , who purposes serving as Steward at the approaching Festival of the Benevolent Institution . The sum of 10 guineas was then voted for a testimonial to Bro . Bush on his quitting the chair of K . S . for the second time , and the usual guinea was ordered to be sent to the Benevolent Institution for the annual Christmas treat . The brethren then adjourned to the banquet .

After a plentiful spread , in which the elements of Christmas cheer largely predominated , the W . M . rose to propose the toasts , which , owing to the [ lateness of the hour , were greatly curtailed . After the usual Masonic toasts , which followed in rapid succession , the W . M . rose to propose " Long Life and Happiness to our VV . M . elect . " In thc course of his remarks the W . M . reminded thebrethren

of that evening , now seven years ago , when the worthy brother entered the lodge as its first initiate . The W . M . traced his progress step by step through every office in the lodge . He enumerated the hundred and one qualities which endeared the brother to every member of the Temple Bar Lodge , and in conclusion he saluted him by the first titles of the sublime oflice to which hc had been elected .

The brethren having drunk the toast with musical honours , the W . M . elect rose to reply . He recalled the fact that as a Lewis he took precedence on the evening of his initiation . In thanking the brethren for their confidence in himself , he dwelt for a moment on the good will and mutual regard which had always been evinced by every member of the lodge , and he claimed the assistance of one

and all of the brethren during his year of office . The qualities which have endeared the W . M . to his brethren in the lodge , and indeed to the whole Craft , were then lightly touched upon by Bro . Butcher , P . M ., in proposing " The Health of Bro . Bush , " which was drunk with musical honours . To this Bro . Bush replied in his inimitable style . "The Visitors , " replied to by Bros . Keen and Perry ; The

" Treasurer , " replied toby Bro . Buckworth , I . P . M . ; and "The Past Masters , " to which Bro . Butcher , P . M ., gave a short response , were next given , and after " The Officers " had all responded in their turn , the Tyler's toast closed one of the happiest evenings ever passed in the Temple Bar . In the course of the evening Bros . Williams , Rolls , Kimpton , Perry , Keen , and Carter contributed songs and recitations for the amusement of the brethren .

The removal of the Creaton Lodge of Instruction to the Wheats-heaf Tavern , Goldhawk-road , Shepherd ' s Bush , was sanctioned . Bro . J . Williams , P . M ., proposed that the usual Past Master's jewel be provided and presented to the VV . M . for the able manner in which he had conducted thc

lodge during his year of office , and was seconded by Bro . J . J . Cantle , P . M ., who in the name of the members thanked the W . M . for having relieved the lodgeof its debt by his excellent management . Bro . Cantle , P . M ., informed the brethren that he had met with so many questions concerning the decease and burial ot the late esteemed brother and first Master of the lodge , Bro . Col .

Creaton , that he felt it his duty to say a few words upon the subject . He had been informed upon undoubted authority that our esteemed brother had died , as he had lived for nearly 40 years , a thorough Mason in heart and principle , and did not renounce our Order in his last moments as bad been stated . The hymn for the burial of the dead ( " Day of Wrath , " & c ) was sung by the brethren , and the lodge

was closed with solemn prayer in perfect harmony . The brethren held their banquet at the Holborn Restaurant , when the usual toasts were given . The W . M . in one of his speeches thanked the officers for the great assistance they had given him during his year of office , likewise the Past Masters for their good advice , and the Secretary for the admirable way in which he had performed his duties . After an excellent dinner , which was served in a faultless manner , had been partaken of , the Worshipful Master proposed , in regular order , " The Queen , " " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . The Worshipful Master next proposed " Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., acting P . G . M .. tand thc Officers of the

Prov . Grand Lodge of Durham , Present and Past . " He did so with mingled feelings of pleasure and regret—pleasure in seeing so many present to do honour to the Palatine Lodge and partly to himself , and regret that he had not the honour of proposing "The Provincial Grand Master , the Marquis ot Londonderry , " whose loss they al ! deeply lamented . He coupled with the toast the name of Bro . R .

Hudson , P . G . S ., a brother whom they all esteemed—and rightly esteemed—from the manner in which he discharged the duties of his important office . The toast was received with applause . Bro . R . Hudson , P . G . Sec , in responding , trusted that the year they were entering upon , inithe Palatine Lodge , might be one of prosperity to the lodge , as well as to the Craft , and that the prestige the lodge held a quarter of a

century ago , and had fully maintained , would be continued . He had always received from them a kind reception when he had come amongst them , and it would always be a pleasure to him to think of his brethren in Freemasonry . The other Provincial Ollicers had very kindly assisted him in the past , and he trusted their efforts would continue to merit their approval . They had , indeed , sustained a great loss in the sudden death of their P . G . M ., the Marquis of Londonderry , who had taken so great an interest in Masonry .
