A very sumptious banquet awaited the brethren in the dining hall , under the presidency of the M . W . S ., who

proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts , prefacing each with very appropriate remarks . 111 . Bro . C J . Banister proposed "The Health of III . Bro . Charles Fendelow , 33 ° , " and in reply this worthy and esteemed brother was most happy in hb remarks , which elicited cordial and enthusiastic cheers .

The M . W . S ., in replying to his health , entered fully into the duties and responsibilities of every Mason , and said all in their respective spheres in life should be bright examples of the excellence of our Masonic teaching . A truly happy evening was spent , and the last toast was proposed at 10 . 45 .

Bro . Alderman and Sheriff Whitehead was among those present on Saturday last at the distribution of prizes to the pupils of the Commercial Travellers' Schools , Pinner . Bro . the Karl and Countess of Umerick were among those present at the meeting held by the kind permission of W . H . Smith , M . P ., and Mrs . Smith , at 3 , Grosvenor-place , on Saturday last , in aid of the Church of England Soldiers' Institute .

services . " Hearty good wishes " were tendered on behalf of many lodges , and the lodge was closed in ancient form . The brethren , about 70 in number , adjourned to the banquet room , and sat down to a well appointed repast , which reflected the greatest credit upon Bio . Beck , who , in a most complete and able manner , arranged the refreshments . The usual loyal , patriotic , and Masonic toasts were given and received in a thoroughly enthusiastic manner .

The individual toasts were ably and fitly responded to , and it will be a source of gratification to the absent brethren of the lodge to know that they were not forgotten , for their health and prosperity was given by the VV . M . in feeling terms , and most cordially received by the brethren . The meeting then closed , every brother having spent a thoroughly enjoyable and instructive evening . The izth June , 1 S 85 , will long be remembered by those who had the pleasure of attending on this occasion .

With respect to Prince Albert Victor , this preliminary was dispensed with by command of the M . W . Grand Master ( Lord Kintore ) . The ceremony of advancement was very ably performed by the VV . M . ( Bro . Trevor-Jones ) , who was well supported by his Wardens , Overseers , and Deacons . The Prince was chosen for the symbolical work . At the close of the ceremony the hearty thanks of the lodge were tendered to the M . W . Grand Master , his

Deputy , and the other Grand Officers for their attendance . It was also proposed by the W . M .. seconded by the S . W ., and carried with acclamation , "That thc M . W . Grand Master and the Deputy Grand Master ( Lords Kintore and Egerton of Tatton ) be elected Honorary Members of the lodge . " lhe M . W . Grand Master having suitably responded , the lodge was closed in due and ancient form . The brethien aftewards partook of luncheon , at which Lord Egerton of Tatton presided .

Royal Masonic Institution For Girls.

ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR GIRLS .

A confirmation was held on the 18 th inst . at St . Peter with St . Paul Church , Battersea rise , by the Lord Bishop of Rochester , at which 3 C of the children of this Institution were confirmed . The Bishop was attended by several of the clergy of the neighbourhood , including Rev . Cancn

Erskine Clarke and Rev . J . Toone , Chap , of the Institution . After the confirmation , the Bishop having expressed a wish to see over the Institution , was conducted there by the Chaplain , accompanied by the other clergy . He was received by Bros . Rucker , Richardson , Grey , and Matthews , representing the House Committee , also Miss Jarwood , the Matron ; Miss Davis , the Head Governess : and the other

members of the staff . His lordship having inspected the Institution , the children went through their calisthenic exercises , and were most kindly addressed by the Bishop , who , in giving advice and encouragement to thern , congratulated them on their behaviour and happy looks , and expressed a wish to bring his own family with him on some future occasion .

Northern Counties Lodge In London.

NORTHERN COUNTIES LODGE IN LONDON .

A preliminary meeting of the brethren interested in forming a lodge for the Northern Counties , took place at 16 a , Great Queens-treet , on Thursday , when it was resolved that it was advisable to form a lodge for brethren north of the Trent . The formal resolutions will be published next week , in the Fi-eemason .

Masonry In The Soudan.

MASONRY IN THE SOUDAN .

A Masonic gathering of unusual interest took place at Suakim on Saturday , the gth ult . Several well-known enthusiastic Masons had made arrangements , with the sanction of General Sir Gerald Graham , commanding Suakim Field Force , to hold a meeting at the Ordnance Stores . For this purpose two large tents were erected and

thrown into one , and everything was done to give a Masonic appearance to the interior . The chair was taken at 6 . 30 p . m . by Major O . G . Cabenagh , I . P . M . iggi , and there were representatives ,. from no less than 21 lodges , India sending five . The proceeding Jwas opened by an appropriate address from the Rev . W . H . BULLOCK , who said it was an

occasion much to be remembered among Masons , as being the first gathering of the Craft in the Soudan . He also gave some interesting information as to the customs of the Arabs , on the subject of signs ; and said that doubtless in the far past the Soudanese knew something of the science , after which Bro . MCINGRNY made a few appropriate remarks on the interesting occasion which had brought them

together . A vote of thanks was unanimously given to the senior Chaplain for his kindness in obtaining from the General Officer Commanding permission to hold the meeting ; also to Bro . VV . Daley for the trouble he had taken in organising it . ' The meeting was brought to a close by some concluding remarks from the PRESIDENT , who suggested that , as a

memorial of this occasion , a subscription list should be opened for the benefit of widows and orphans of Masons who had fallen in the campaign . 'This , it need scarcely be stated , was unanimously adopted . After these proceedings the brethren took their places at the festive board , and an hour was pleasantly passed in brotherly intercourse , and all separated to their tents highly gratified at this , the first meeting of the Craft in the Desert .

Bros . Thomas Clarke and Alderman Evans were elected Sheriffs of London and Middlesex on Wednesday last . Bro . Colonel King-Harman , M . P . for County Dublin , has been adopted as Conservative candidate at the

next election , for the Isle of Thanet division of the county of Kent . Bros , the Crown Prince of Germany , and the Duke of Connaught were present among the mourners at the funeral of the late Prince Frederick Charles of Prussia , the Duke's father-in-law .

Lieut .-General Randolph entertained his brother officers in the Provincial Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons of Sussex at a sumptuous banquet in the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on Wednesday evening . Vocal and instrumental music pleasingly diversified the proceedings . We regret to state that Bro . James Terry is too unwell to rehearse the ceremony of consecration at the

Marquis of Ripon Lodge of Instruction , No . I 48 g , Queen s Hotel , Victoria-park , but Bro . VV . H . Lee , P . G . A . Sec . for Middlesex , P . M ., P . Z ., & c , has kindly consented to rehearse the ceremony of installation , and Bro . Morgan , P . M ., will deliver a lecture .
