Stanford Lodge , No . 1947 , Hove ; and in 1887 was a founder and first Senior Warden of the Earl of Sussex Lodge , No . 2201 , Brighton ; while in 1 S 90 he joined the Clarence Lodge , No . 271 , Brighton . In 1888 , he was installed as the second W . M . of the Earl of Sussex Lodge , and the year following was appointed Prov . S . G . W . of Sussex . In 18 S 0 , on the death of Bro . Gerard Ford , he received bis

patent of appointment as Dep . P . G . Master . He was exalted as a Royal Arch Mason in the Chapter of Friendship , No . 6 , about the year 1 S 72 . In 1 S 80 , he joined the Hova Villa Chapter , No . 1466 , Brig hton , and in 1 S 93 was installed M . E . Z . At the present time he occupies the chair of Second Principal in the Prov . Grand Chapter of Sussex . He is a Life-Governor of the Girls' and Boys ' Schools .

Bro . Sir F . SEAGER-HUNT , Bart ., M . P ., was initiated in the Canterbury Lodge , No . 1635 , and since then has been elected a joining member of the Abbey Lodge , No . 2030 , and the Studholme , No . 1591 . On the oth May ,, 1 SK 9 , he was installed Worshipful Master of the Abbey Lodge , No . 2030 . He is a Royal Arch Mason , having been exalted in the St . Marleybone Chapter , No . 1305 , and is a supporter of , and has served as Steward for , the several Masonic Institutions .

Bro . C . F . MARSHALL has had a long and distinguished career in Masonry , having been initiated in the Royal Sussex Lodge , No , 53 , Bath , as far back as the 17 th June , 1856 . In 1 S 61 , he was installed into the chair of W . M . In 18 S 7 , his services to the Cralt in Somersetshire were recognised by his appointment , by the Earl of Carnarvon , then Prov . Grand Master , to the hig h office of Prov . S . G . W . In the year of his initiation he joined the Lodge of Rectitude , No . 335 , Corsham , and three years later was elected W . M . In 1880 , he received the collar of Prov . S . G . W . of Wiltshire . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in the Royal

Sussex Chapter , No . 53 , Bath , on the 14 th October , 18 57 , and was installed M . E . Z . in 1865 . In 1881 , he was appointed Prov . G . Scribe N ., and five years later filled the chair of Prov . G . Third Principal [ . He is also connected with many ol the other Masonic organisations , having been W . M . of the Royal Sussex Mark Lodge , No . 177 , Bath , in 1865 , E . C . of the Bladud Preceptory , No . 40 , Bath , in 1863 , in the Order of the Temple , and M . W . S . of the St . Peter and St . joining member of the Pentangle Lodge , No . 1174 , Chatham , the Lodge of Unity , No . 1698 , Allahabad , the Lodge of Charity , No . 5 6 3 , Umballa , the Meridian Lodge , the Dalhousie Lodge , No . 639 , Mussoorie , and the St . Peter and St . Paul ' s Lodge , No . 1410 , Newport Pagnell , Bucks , as well as of other lodges both in England and in India . He was installed W . M . of the Pentangle in 1872 , of the Lodge of Unity in r 8 79 , of the Meridian in 1889 , ana < ° f 'he Dalhousie , in which he still occupies the chair , in 1894 . He was appointed Prov .

Master , while in rS 82 he had conferred upon him the post of Dist . S . G . Warden Bengal . He was exalted to the Royal Arch in St . Paul ' s Chapter , No . 374 , Montreal ( E . C ) , on the 14 th January , 1866 ; joined the Border Chapter , No . 582 , Peshawur , and was installed M . E ' / .. in March , 1878 , and was appointed Dist . G . H . Punjab in 1883 . He is also a joining

He is a Past Grand Overseer of England and Wales in the Mark Degree , a Knight Templar , a Knight of Malta , a Knig ht of Rome and the Red Cross of Constantine , and a Past M . W . S . of Rose Croix Chapter , No . 1 ( Metropolitan Chapter ) , and has been a 32 in the Ancient and Accepted Rite since 1 SS 3 . Be it added that he has served as Steward for and is a Life-Governor of the Punjab Masonic Benevolent Institution .

JUNIOR GRAND DEACONS . Bro . Col . L . G . DUNDAS was originally an Irish Mason , having been initiated in the St . John's Lodge , No . 101 , Athlone , under the Grand Lodge of Ireland on the 21 st April , 1861 . However , on the 8 th March , 1879 , he was admitted a joining member into the St . George ' s Lodge , No . 370 , Chertsey , and was elected to the chair of Master in 1882 ; two years later he was honoured with

the appointment of Prov . J . G . Warden of Surrry . Since then Bro . Dundas has rendered further Masonic service as a founder in 1885 , and W . M . the year following of the Abbey Lodge , No . 2121 , Chertsey , and as founder and first W . M . of the Train-bands Lodge , No . 2524 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in St . George's Chapter , No . 370 . on the 21 st May , i 88 r , and was installed in the chair of First Principal in May , 1887 . He is Prov . G . Scribe N . of the Prov . Grand Chapter of Surrey .

Bro . Licut .-Col . WILLIAM N EWTON can boast of upwards of 35 years connection with Freemasonry , having been initiated into its earliest mysteries in the Royal Sussex Lodge , No . 402 , Nottingham , on the 12 th January , 1 S 59 , and having been installed as W . M . in 1866 . In 18 7 6 , he assisted in founding the Newton Lodge , No . 1 CC 1 , Newark-on-Trent . In 1892 , on the death of liro . the Rev . F . Vernon Bussell , Past G . Chap ., he was appointed Deputy Prov . G . M . of Nottinghamshire , and as the Prov . Grand Master—the Duke of St . Albans - is in very indifferent

health , the Province may be said to be almost entirely in charge of Bro . Newton . In the Royal Arch Degree , to which Comp . Newton was exalted in the Chapter of Unanimity , No . 82 , Cheltenham , he is a P . Z . of the Alexander Chapter , No . lC 6 r , of which he is a foum ' er and is the senior member , the chapter having been warranted in 1882 , and Col . Newton having been installed in the chair of First Principal two years later . In 1890 he was appointed Prov . G . H . of Nottinghamshire . In the Mark Degree , he is a P . M . of the Fleming Lodge , No . 265 ,

Newark , and has been Prov . Grand Mark Master of Nottinghamshire since 1889 ; a Past C . N . in the Degree of Royal Ark Mariner , and member of the Trent Lodge , attached to the Fleming , No . ? . (> $ , and in the A . and A . Rile , was founder and first M . W . S . of the Magnus Chapter of Rose Croix , 18 " , and has taken the 31 " . Finally , lie is Chairman of the Benevolent and Educational Committee of his l ' rov . Grand Lodge , and is a Life-Governor uf \\ w | ' , uys' and Girls' Schools .

The Grand Officers.

Bro . ALFRED S . TOMKINS was initiated on the 3 rd December , 1 S 6 3 , in the Victoria Rides Lodge , No . S 22 , and was installed W . M . in 1875 . He joined the Diterham Lodge , No . 2095 , Caterham , in 1 SS 5 , and filled the chair of Master in 18 90 , having in the meantime been appointed—in 188 7 a Prov- Grand Deacon oi Surrey . He has also done good service as a member of the Board of General

Purposes . He was exalted in trie Roy . il Arch Chapter St . Albans , No . 29 , on the 7 th March , 1865 . and was elected to the chair of First Principal , firstly in 1880 , and for the second time in 1 S 93 . He is a Vice-Patron of the Three Masonic Institutions , and has served three . Stewardships- for the Girls' School , one for the Boys ' School , and one for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution .

GRAND SUPERINTENDENT OF WORKS . Bro . HERUERT THOMAS STEWARD , who has been chosen to fill this office , was iniliated in the Middlesex Lodge , No . 143 , in May , 1871 , and after holding sundryminor offices was ultimately elected to preside over it as Master in iSSr . But in the 10 years' interval which elapsed between his initiation and election to the chair , he had a hand in founding the St . Peter ' s Lodge , Westminster , No . 1537 , and was installed as its second VV . M . in 1876 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch

in Mount Moriah Chapter , No . 143 , in December , 1 S 73 , and was installed in the chair of First Principal in rS 7 g . In 1 S 7 8 he was a founder and in 1 SS 0 the M . E . Z . of St . Peter ' s Chapter , No . 1537 . He has also been perfected Rose Croix 18 ° in the Ancient and Accepted Rite , and is a member of the Metropolitan Chapter , No . 1 , of that Degree . As regards our Institutions he has qualified as Vice-President of the Girls' School , and is a Life Governor of the Boys' School and Benevolent Institution , for each of which he has served as Festival Steward .

DEPUTY GRAND DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES . Bro . ERNEST F . POCOCK , M . D ., has been connected with our Order for a quarter of a century , having been initiated in the Earl of Carnarvon Lodge , No . 1642 , on the 14 th March , iS 78 , and served as W M . in 1892-93 . In iSSohe helped to found the St . Ambrose Lodge , No . 1 S 91 , and was installed in its chair in 188 4 , in which year he was associated with a number of prominent brethren in founding

the University of London Lodge , No . 2033 , of which he has the honour to be at the present time S . W . and W . M . elect . In 1 S 91 he rendered still further service : ; s one of the founders of the Lodge of . Fsculapins , No . 2410 , which is intended for members of the medical profession , and in 1 S 93 he was duly installed in the chair of K . S . as its third W . M . But his labours have not been confined to lodge work . During the last nine years he has been a member of the Board of Genera !

Purposes , and at the present time holds—and for the past three years has heldthe important position of its Vice-President . In Royal Arch Masonry he has won equal distinction . He was exalted in the Ezra Chapter , No . 1489 , on the 7 th November , 1 S 79 . At the foundation of the Earl of Carnarvon Chapter , No . 1642 , in 18 S 0 , he was elected a joining member , and had the honour of being installed M . E . Z . in 18 S 7 . In 1 S 84 he became a founder and first M . E . Z . of the St .

Ambrose Chapter , No . 1 S 91 , while only last year he figured in the same two-fold character in connection with the Chapter of yEsculapius , No . 2410 . He has also taken a more or less active part in one or the other Masonic organisations . He was advanced in the Carnarvon Mark Lodge , No . 211 , in November , 1 S 84 , ar > d installed in the chair of A in 1 S 91 , in which year he served as Grand Steward at the Mark Benevolent Festival . In 188 7 he became a member of the Grand

Master ' s Council , No . 1 , Royal and Select Masters , of which he is a Past G . Steward , and of the Rose and Lily Council , No . 15 , of the Allied Degrees , in which he was elected Master in 1892 , and of the Grand Council , of which he is a P . A . G . D . C . He is a Knight Templar , having been installed in the Holy Sanctuary Preceptory , and was perlected Rose Croix in the Rose and Lily Chapter , No . 97 . Lastly , he is a Life Governor of each of our Institutions , and has served several times as Festival Steward in their behalf .

ASSISTANT GRAND DIRECTORS OF CEREMONIES . Bro . WALTER HUGHES has had a brief but distinguished career in Masonry , having been initiated in the Shakespeare Lodge , No . 99 , on the 24 th February , 18 S 7 . In 1 S 91 , he was elected and installed VV . M ., and represented the lodge 011 the Board ot Grand Stewards . In the same year , he joined the Earl of Sussex

Lodge , No . 2201 , Brighton . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in the Oxford and Cambridge University Chapter , No . 11 iS , on the 11 th June , 18 S 8 , and last year had the honour of bting installed in the Chair of First Principal . He has served once as Festival Steward for our Three Institutions , and is a Vice-President of the Boys ' School and Benevolent Institution , and a Life-Governor of the Girls' Schcol .

Bro . GEORGE EDWIN FAIRCHILD is among the ablest and most popular members of our Order in the Metropolis . He was initiated in the Urban Lodge , No . 1196 , on the 22 nd February , 1 S 76 , and had the honour of being elected its W . M . in 1883 . In June , 18 7 8 , he joined the Asaph Lodge , No . 1319 , and was chosen its Master in 1888 , while in May , 1 S 84 , he was elected a joining member of the Pho-nix Lodge , No . 173 , of which he is the present W . M ., having been

installed in the chair in May of last year . He is known far and wide as a perfect Master of our ritual , and to hear him work one of our ceremonies is a pleasure which mere words will very inadequatel y describe ; it must be seen and heard in order to be fully appreciated . 1 c Royal Arch Masonry he has also played a prominent part , having been exalted to that Degree in the Urban Chapter , No . 1196 , on the 13 th February , 18 7 8 , and having joined the Asaph Chapter in October , 1881 . He was installed M . E . Z . of the former in 1887 , and of the latter in

i 8 go . He is at the present time a member of the Board of General Purposes , while as regards our Charities , he has always evinced the greatest interest in their welfare , and has personally taken an active part in supporting them . He is a Patron of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and has served seven Stewardships in its behalf ; a Vice-Patron of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , and when the Festival for the current year is over will have served seven times as Steward , and a Vice-President of , and three times Steward for , the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls .

Bro . W ILLIAM H ANKY R VLANDS , born in 1847 , was initiated in the Lodge of Faith and Unanimity , No . . 147 , Dorchester , on September 4 th , 1872 ; in r 88 i he joined the Lodge of Antiquity , No . 2 , and was installed as Master of it in 18 S 9 , having in the interval served the office of Gr . ind . Steiv . 'ird with which was combined that of Treasurer to the Board ( 1 S 87-K ) . Bro . Rylands was exalted December 7 th , 18 S 2 , in the Chapter of St James , No . 2 , and installed as M . E . Z- l "

March , 1892 . He was a founder and ( he firs ! S . W . of the Qualuor Coronati Lodg' \ No . 2076 , in 188 4 , and VV . M . November 9 th , 1891 . He has repeatedly served as a Steward to the Masonic Charities , and is a Life-Governor of all three . Bro-Rylands is a Fellow of Ihe Society of Antiquaries ; a member of the Asiatic Societiesof Great Britain and France ; and an Honorary Associate of the R . I . B . A . ; he is on the Councils of the British Archa-ological Association , of the Palestine Pilgrims' Society ; and a member of the General Committee of Ihe Palestine

Exploration Fund . But the Association which , next lo our own Fraternity , takes the leading place in his esteem , is the Society of Biblical Arcna-dogy . Of this he became the Secretary in 187 N , and the number of members has more than doubled itself since his appointment . M . of the Pentangle in 1872 , of the Lodge of Unity in r 8 79 , of the Meridian in 1889 , ana < ° f 'he Dalhousie , in which he still occupies the chair , in 1894 . He was appointed Prov .

G . SuDt . of Wks . Berks and Bucks in 18 75 , Dist . G . Deacon Punjab in 18 77 , Dist . S . G . Warden in 1882 , and in 1 S 83 Dep . Dist . G . Master , while in rS 82 he had conferred upon him the post of Dist . S . G . Warden Bengal . He was exalted to the Royal Arch in St . Paul ' s Chapter , No . 374 , Montreal ( E . C ) , on the 14 th January , 1866 ; joined the Border Chapter , No . 582 , Peshawur , and was installed M . E ' / .. in March , 1878 , and was appointed Dist . G . H . Punjab in 1883 . He is also a joining

member of the St . George ' s Chapter , No . 840 , VVolverton . He is a Past Grand Overseer of England and Wales in the Mark Degree , a Knight Templar , a Knight of Malta , a Knig ht of Rome and the Red Cross of Constantine , and a Past M . W . S . of Rose Croix Chapter , No . 1 ( Metropolitan Chapter ) , and has been a 32 in the Ancient and Accepted Rite since 1 SS 3 . Be it added that he has served as Steward for and is a Life-Governor of the Punjab Masonic Benevolent Institution .

JUNIOR GRAND DEACONS . Bro . Col . L . G . DUNDAS was originally an Irish Mason , having been initiated in the St . John's Lodge , No . 101 , Athlone , under the Grand Lodge of Ireland on the 21 st April , 1861 . However , on the 8 th March , 1879 , he was admitted a joining member into the St . George ' s Lodge , No . 370 , Chertsey , and was elected to the chair of Master in 1882 ; two years later he was honoured with

the appointment of Prov . J . G . Warden of Surrry . Since then Bro . Dundas has rendered further Masonic service as a founder in 1885 , and W . M . the year following of the Abbey Lodge , No . 2121 , Chertsey , and as founder and first W . M . of the Train-bands Lodge , No . 2524 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in St . George's Chapter , No . 370 . on the 21 st May , i 88 r , and was installed in the chair of First Principal in May , 1887 . He is Prov . G . Scribe N . of the Prov . Grand Chapter of Surrey .

Bro . Licut .-Col . WILLIAM N EWTON can boast of upwards of 35 years connection with Freemasonry , having been initiated into its earliest mysteries in the Royal Sussex Lodge , No . 402 , Nottingham , on the 12 th January , 1 S 59 , and having been installed as W . M . in 1866 . In 18 7 6 , he assisted in founding the Newton Lodge , No . 1 CC 1 , Newark-on-Trent . In 1892 , on the death of liro . the Rev . F . Vernon Bussell , Past G . Chap ., he was appointed Deputy Prov . G . M . of Nottinghamshire , and as the Prov . Grand Master—the Duke of St . Albans - is in very indifferent

health , the Province may be said to be almost entirely in charge of Bro . Newton . In the Royal Arch Degree , to which Comp . Newton was exalted in the Chapter of Unanimity , No . 82 , Cheltenham , he is a P . Z . of the Alexander Chapter , No . lC 6 r , of which he is a foum ' er and is the senior member , the chapter having been warranted in 1882 , and Col . Newton having been installed in the chair of First Principal two years later . In 1890 he was appointed Prov . G . H . of Nottinghamshire . In the Mark Degree , he is a P . M . of the Fleming Lodge , No . 265 ,

Newark , and has been Prov . Grand Mark Master of Nottinghamshire since 1889 ; a Past C . N . in the Degree of Royal Ark Mariner , and member of the Trent Lodge , attached to the Fleming , No . ? . (> $ , and in the A . and A . Rile , was founder and first M . W . S . of the Magnus Chapter of Rose Croix , 18 " , and has taken the 31 " . Finally , lie is Chairman of the Benevolent and Educational Committee of his l ' rov . Grand Lodge , and is a Life-Governor uf \\ w | ' , uys' and Girls' Schools .

The Grand Officers.

Bro . ALFRED S . TOMKINS was initiated on the 3 rd December , 1 S 6 3 , in the Victoria Rides Lodge , No . S 22 , and was installed W . M . in 1875 . He joined the Diterham Lodge , No . 2095 , Caterham , in 1 SS 5 , and filled the chair of Master in 18 90 , having in the meantime been appointed—in 188 7 a Prov- Grand Deacon oi Surrey . He has also done good service as a member of the Board of General

Purposes . He was exalted in trie Roy . il Arch Chapter St . Albans , No . 29 , on the 7 th March , 1865 . and was elected to the chair of First Principal , firstly in 1880 , and for the second time in 1 S 93 . He is a Vice-Patron of the Three Masonic Institutions , and has served three . Stewardships- for the Girls' School , one for the Boys ' School , and one for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution .

GRAND SUPERINTENDENT OF WORKS . Bro . HERUERT THOMAS STEWARD , who has been chosen to fill this office , was iniliated in the Middlesex Lodge , No . 143 , in May , 1871 , and after holding sundryminor offices was ultimately elected to preside over it as Master in iSSr . But in the 10 years' interval which elapsed between his initiation and election to the chair , he had a hand in founding the St . Peter ' s Lodge , Westminster , No . 1537 , and was installed as its second VV . M . in 1876 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch

in Mount Moriah Chapter , No . 143 , in December , 1 S 73 , and was installed in the chair of First Principal in rS 7 g . In 1 S 7 8 he was a founder and in 1 SS 0 the M . E . Z . of St . Peter ' s Chapter , No . 1537 . He has also been perfected Rose Croix 18 ° in the Ancient and Accepted Rite , and is a member of the Metropolitan Chapter , No . 1 , of that Degree . As regards our Institutions he has qualified as Vice-President of the Girls' School , and is a Life Governor of the Boys' School and Benevolent Institution , for each of which he has served as Festival Steward .

DEPUTY GRAND DIRECTOR OF CEREMONIES . Bro . ERNEST F . POCOCK , M . D ., has been connected with our Order for a quarter of a century , having been initiated in the Earl of Carnarvon Lodge , No . 1642 , on the 14 th March , iS 78 , and served as W M . in 1892-93 . In iSSohe helped to found the St . Ambrose Lodge , No . 1 S 91 , and was installed in its chair in 188 4 , in which year he was associated with a number of prominent brethren in founding

the University of London Lodge , No . 2033 , of which he has the honour to be at the present time S . W . and W . M . elect . In 1 S 91 he rendered still further service : ; s one of the founders of the Lodge of . Fsculapins , No . 2410 , which is intended for members of the medical profession , and in 1 S 93 he was duly installed in the chair of K . S . as its third W . M . But his labours have not been confined to lodge work . During the last nine years he has been a member of the Board of Genera !

Purposes , and at the present time holds—and for the past three years has heldthe important position of its Vice-President . In Royal Arch Masonry he has won equal distinction . He was exalted in the Ezra Chapter , No . 1489 , on the 7 th November , 1 S 79 . At the foundation of the Earl of Carnarvon Chapter , No . 1642 , in 18 S 0 , he was elected a joining member , and had the honour of being installed M . E . Z . in 18 S 7 . In 1 S 84 he became a founder and first M . E . Z . of the St .

Ambrose Chapter , No . 1 S 91 , while only last year he figured in the same two-fold character in connection with the Chapter of yEsculapius , No . 2410 . He has also taken a more or less active part in one or the other Masonic organisations . He was advanced in the Carnarvon Mark Lodge , No . 211 , in November , 1 S 84 , ar > d installed in the chair of A in 1 S 91 , in which year he served as Grand Steward at the Mark Benevolent Festival . In 188 7 he became a member of the Grand

Master ' s Council , No . 1 , Royal and Select Masters , of which he is a Past G . Steward , and of the Rose and Lily Council , No . 15 , of the Allied Degrees , in which he was elected Master in 1892 , and of the Grand Council , of which he is a P . A . G . D . C . He is a Knight Templar , having been installed in the Holy Sanctuary Preceptory , and was perlected Rose Croix in the Rose and Lily Chapter , No . 97 . Lastly , he is a Life Governor of each of our Institutions , and has served several times as Festival Steward in their behalf .

ASSISTANT GRAND DIRECTORS OF CEREMONIES . Bro . WALTER HUGHES has had a brief but distinguished career in Masonry , having been initiated in the Shakespeare Lodge , No . 99 , on the 24 th February , 18 S 7 . In 1 S 91 , he was elected and installed VV . M ., and represented the lodge 011 the Board ot Grand Stewards . In the same year , he joined the Earl of Sussex

Lodge , No . 2201 , Brighton . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in the Oxford and Cambridge University Chapter , No . 11 iS , on the 11 th June , 18 S 8 , and last year had the honour of bting installed in the Chair of First Principal . He has served once as Festival Steward for our Three Institutions , and is a Vice-President of the Boys ' School and Benevolent Institution , and a Life-Governor of the Girls' Schcol .

Bro . GEORGE EDWIN FAIRCHILD is among the ablest and most popular members of our Order in the Metropolis . He was initiated in the Urban Lodge , No . 1196 , on the 22 nd February , 1 S 76 , and had the honour of being elected its W . M . in 1883 . In June , 18 7 8 , he joined the Asaph Lodge , No . 1319 , and was chosen its Master in 1888 , while in May , 1 S 84 , he was elected a joining member of the Pho-nix Lodge , No . 173 , of which he is the present W . M ., having been

installed in the chair in May of last year . He is known far and wide as a perfect Master of our ritual , and to hear him work one of our ceremonies is a pleasure which mere words will very inadequatel y describe ; it must be seen and heard in order to be fully appreciated . 1 c Royal Arch Masonry he has also played a prominent part , having been exalted to that Degree in the Urban Chapter , No . 1196 , on the 13 th February , 18 7 8 , and having joined the Asaph Chapter in October , 1881 . He was installed M . E . Z . of the former in 1887 , and of the latter in

i 8 go . He is at the present time a member of the Board of General Purposes , while as regards our Charities , he has always evinced the greatest interest in their welfare , and has personally taken an active part in supporting them . He is a Patron of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , and has served seven Stewardships in its behalf ; a Vice-Patron of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , and when the Festival for the current year is over will have served seven times as Steward , and a Vice-President of , and three times Steward for , the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls .

Bro . W ILLIAM H ANKY R VLANDS , born in 1847 , was initiated in the Lodge of Faith and Unanimity , No . . 147 , Dorchester , on September 4 th , 1872 ; in r 88 i he joined the Lodge of Antiquity , No . 2 , and was installed as Master of it in 18 S 9 , having in the interval served the office of Gr . ind . Steiv . 'ird with which was combined that of Treasurer to the Board ( 1 S 87-K ) . Bro . Rylands was exalted December 7 th , 18 S 2 , in the Chapter of St James , No . 2 , and installed as M . E . Z- l "

March , 1892 . He was a founder and ( he firs ! S . W . of the Qualuor Coronati Lodg' \ No . 2076 , in 188 4 , and VV . M . November 9 th , 1891 . He has repeatedly served as a Steward to the Masonic Charities , and is a Life-Governor of all three . Bro-Rylands is a Fellow of Ihe Society of Antiquaries ; a member of the Asiatic Societiesof Great Britain and France ; and an Honorary Associate of the R . I . B . A . ; he is on the Councils of the British Archa-ological Association , of the Palestine Pilgrims' Society ; and a member of the General Committee of Ihe Palestine
