HISTORY OF THE CHAPTER OF UNITY , No . 72 . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , I think if our worthy P . M ., Bro . Scarth , will refer to your review of the 6 th of April last he will find it stated ' * The Unity , " No . 72 , was granted by the Grand Chapter of the Modems in 1700 ; it is therefore the senior in Leeds
as respects date of origin . It did not however assemble for work apparently till 179 6 . " The " Fidelity " Chapter to 'which Bro . Scarth , P . M ., refers was opened by dispensa tion 7 th October , 1 793 , and obtained its warrant , No . 93 * on 27 th March , 1794 . _ I cannot see that your review is incorrect . The " Unity warrant was No . 72 , the " Fidelity " was No . 03 . That
the " Unity " did not meet for business till 179 6 has never been concealed , but I apprehend that had the Grand Chapter been kept as a separate organisation and the "Unity" not lost its warrant during the " unfortunate hiatus " its place would have been higher on the roll of the Grand Chapter than that of " Fidelity . "—I am , fraternally yours , C . LETCH MASON . April 20 th . FINANCIAL TABLES OF THE INSTITUTIONS . To the Editor of the "Freemason . " Dear Sir and Brother , As Bro . Vickers is kind enough to suppose me a gentleman , I will , as I always try to do , so reply . Bro . Vickers , quoting from my letter , " Where in his last Boys and Girls' Tables he states that I have taken my figures
from the Festival Reports , " says he fails to find any allusion to the Festival Reports ; I therefore refer him to the following dates in your columns : 25—2—88 ; 16—2—89 ; g _ _ Sn _ 16—3—89—all more or less directly referring to them , as well as in the context to the Tables for five years to the several taries ask
before that . I have written Secre - ing them kindly to oblige me with the exact sums given by Licolnshire from ' 82— 'S 8 inclusive , which , when I receive , I shall be happy to let Bro . Vickers know through your columns . —Yours fraternally , P . M . 1607 .
