The New Grand Officers.

Lodge , No . 231 , and having filled the chair of the Athenaeum Lodge in 1882 , was elected to the same honourable office in the St . Andrew ' s in 1884 . He was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in the Mount Sinai Chapter , No . 19 , in 1878 , assisted in founding the Orpheus Chapter , No . 1706 . and was in due course installed First Principal of the latter in

1884 . He is also a member of the Ancient and Accepted Rite , having been perfected Rose Croix in the St . George ' s Chapter , No . 42 , of that degree . He is a Life Governor of the three Institutions , and has acted as Steward twice for the Benevolent Institution , once for the Girls' School , and once for the Boys' School .

GRAND PURSUIVANT . Bro . T . W . WHITMARSH , whose career we briefly described last year , when he received his appointment as Assistant Grand Pursuivant , has been promoted to the office of Grand Pursuivant .

ASSISTANT GRAND PURSUIVANT . Bro . DAVID D . MERCER was initiated in the Sphinx Lodge ,. No . 1329 , on the 18 th March , 1876 , and on the nth November following became one of the founders of the Crichton Lodge , No . 1641 , of which , after passing throug h the minor and Wardens' offices , he was installed W . Master in 1883 . He has also served the latter lodge in the capacity of Treasurer for

six years , while as regards his mother lodge , he is the present S . W ., and is looking forward to his election as Master at the meeting in September next . He was exalted to the R . A . Degree in the Sphinx Chapter , No . 1329 , on the 23 rd June , 1877 . He has constituted himself a Life Governor of both our Schools , and served as Steward for the Boys' School in 1877 , and for that of the Girls' in 1885 , and again at the Centenary Festival last year .

Prov . Grand Lodge was opened , and the Prov . Grand Officers were saluted , and the minutes of the last annual Grand Lodge , held at Workington , on the 30 th October last , were read and confirmed . The dues from the respective lodges , and fees of honour from Prov . Grand Officers were paid , when the acting P . G . M . in the chair moved as

a recommendation to the P . G . M . —that the next annual P . G . Lodge be held at Keswick , the capital of England's Alps , under the banner of Greta Lodge , No . 1037 . Bros . W . HODGSON , W . M . 1073 , and J . HALL , P . M ., ably supported the recommendation , which was unanimously carried .

The P . G . SECRETARY announced that he had received from the brethren of the Unanimity Lodge , Penrith , a similar recommendation , which would have to stand over for another year . Bro . MIDDLETON , P . A . G . Sec , read the report from the Charity Committee , which was unanimously adopted . Bro . G . J . MCKAY , P . G . Sec , moved that the sum of 50 guineas be voted to each fund of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution .

Bro . CARLYLE , P . J . G . W ., seconded the motion , and it was unanimously passed .

Prov . Grand Lodge was then closed , with " Hearty good wishes " from the Province of Durham , and the brethren subsequently dined in the County Hotel , Bro . Dr . Gore-Ring in the chair , supported by Bros . Hudson , Logan , McKay , and Cook . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured .

The foregoing petitions being in all respects regular , the Committee recommend that the prayers thereof be respectively granted . The Committee have likewise received memorials , with copies of minutes ,

for permission to remove the following chapters : The Chapter of Fortitude , No . 105 , from the Huyshe Masonic Temple , to the Devon and Cornwall Freemasons' Hall , 1 , Princes-square , Plymouth .

The Union Waterloo Chapter , No . 13 , Woolwich , from the Freemasons ' Hall , Woolwich , to the new Masonic Hall , Plumstead , Kent . The Grove Chapter , No . 410 , from the Swan Hotel , Leatherhead , to the Spring Hotel , Ewell , in the Province of Surrey . The Old King ' s Arms Chapter , No . 28 , from the Freemasons' Tavern , to the Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street .

The Committee recommend that the removal of these chapters be sanctioned . The Committee have further to report that in consequence of the

formation and recognition of a Grand Lodge of New South Wales , there are no longer English Craft Lodges in that colony to which the chapters meeting in New South Wales can be attached , as required by Article 45 , Royal Arch Regulations .

The Committee , therefore , recommend that the Charters of the Chapters , Nos . 390 , 547 , 817 , 1653 , 1654 , 1762 , 1795 , 18 9 8 , and 1 943 , be withdrawn and cancelled , and that the chapters be erased from the Register of the Grand Chapter .

The foregoing petitions being in all respects regular , the Committee recommend that the prayers thereof be respectively granted . The Committee have likewise received memorials , with copies of minutes ,

for permission to remove the following chapters : The Chapter of Fortitude , No . 105 , from the Huyshe Masonic Temple , to the Devon and Cornwall Freemasons' Hall , 1 , Princes-square , Plymouth .

The Union Waterloo Chapter , No . 13 , Woolwich , from the Freemasons ' Hall , Woolwich , to the new Masonic Hall , Plumstead , Kent . The Grove Chapter , No . 410 , from the Swan Hotel , Leatherhead , to the Spring Hotel , Ewell , in the Province of Surrey . The Old King ' s Arms Chapter , No . 28 , from the Freemasons' Tavern , to the Freemasons' Hall , Great Queen-street .

The Committee recommend that the removal of these chapters be sanctioned . The Committee have further to report that in consequence of the

formation and recognition of a Grand Lodge of New South Wales , there are no longer English Craft Lodges in that colony to which the chapters meeting in New South Wales can be attached , as required by Article 45 , Royal Arch Regulations .

The Committee , therefore , recommend that the Charters of the Chapters , Nos . 390 , 547 , 817 , 1653 , 1654 , 1762 , 1795 , 18 9 8 , and 1 943 , be withdrawn and cancelled , and that the chapters be erased from the Register of the Grand Chapter .
