He was pleased to see the W . M . installed by Bro . Cogliati in such an able manner , and was proud to think he had had the honour of installing the first Master of the lodge . He felt confident it must prosper under such able guidance . Bro . Thos . Grummant , P . M ., Sec , in reply , most heartily thanked Bro . Terry for his great

kindness in giving every assistance with respect to the removal of the lodge from Greenwich , and deeply regretted his inability to attend the banquet , but trusted henceforth ha would receive the most cordial greeting to the lodge . That of "H . R . H . the M . W . G . M ., " the W . M . said if anything were wanting ti convince them of his worth it was the hearty appeal to th ? nation on behalf of the Diam - ml Jubilee Commemoration Fund , which was receiving the hearty response of the nation . Their M . W . G . M . was a most worthy head of a most worthy brotherhood . The W . M . next proposed the toast of " Pro G . M ., Dep . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past . " They were all excellent brethren , and most read y to perform their respective duties to their utmost .

Bro . A . Cogliati , I . P . M ., next rose and , in highly compumintary term ** , propose } the toast of " The W . AL" remarking that Bro . Targett had filled the vinous office ; aspiring to the chair in a mist crelitible manner , and hid w > i tie al n'ntion if ti ; brethren , and their unaninously ele-tinj him their W . M . proved thit fact . He was confident that the success of the New Cross Lodge was well assured at the hand ? of the W . M ., and the brethren wished him long life and health aid happiness during the coming year . The toast was most enthusiastically responded to .

The W . M . very cordially renlied , and saii that it wis most gratify !*!*** to have such a reception . He little thought nine years ago of ever aspiring to such a proud position . Hi had been deeply impressed by the manner the Installin * - Mister , Bro . Cogluti , hid performed his duty and h j trusted that at the end of his tenure of office he should b 3 received in the same manner as the I . P . M . His endeavour would be to uohold the dignity of the lodge and perform his duties to the utmost , and by so doin » receive the thanks of the brethren and he should be well rewarded .

The toast of " The Initiates" was ably proposed by the W . M . in most cordial terms , knowing from their sponsors to be good men and true . They had bright examples in the New Cross Lodge to follow , and by patience and perseverance would acquire the chair in due course . Bro . Bellini , in reply , said he had been much impressed with the beautiful ceremony , and he hoped he should prove his worthiness . Bro . Norwack also thanked the W . M . for his kind remarks , and hoped to emulate his father , who had been a member of the honourable Order for 4 *; years , and he likewise

should strive to fulfil the duties and prove himself worthy of the New Cross Lodge . Bro . Thos . Grummant , P . M ., rose and proposed the toast of " The Masonic Charities , " stating that with the kind permission of the W . M . it had been placed earlier on the list , for he thought the matter was one deserving- the attention of every brother present ^ The W . M . had dilated on the excellent virtues of their M . W . G . M ., and he likewise thought that the brightest gem which adorns our Masonic profession was benevolence , and that this—the Goth year of her Majesty ' s most beneficent reign—was a

most fitting opportunity of showing to his Royal Highness their appreciation of his mo it benevolent spirit towards the Hospitals Commemoration Fund , and in some tangible form assist him in that noble cause ; also , he hoped , with the kind assistance of the brethren , to stand as Steward to the Boys' Institution next year at the Centenary Festival , when it was hoped his Royal Highness would take the chair . He felt confident all would assist in such noble Charities . The result was a subscription of £ 5 12 s . to the Comm emoration Fund .

Bro . Targett , W . M ., in terms of strong recommenda tion , gave the toast of "The Installing Master ( Bro . Cogliati ) and the Past Masters . " The Installing Master had done great things for the New Cross Lodge and in a m anner which redounded to his credit . There had been an influx of 17 candidates during the year , who had come with excellent credentials , and the I . P . M . had deeply impressed them and all the brethren in the lodge with his exceptional working , especially considering it was not rendered in his mother tongue . The brethren , to mark their appreciation , had voted that splendid jewel , which he ( the W . M . ) presented in their name with the earnest hope that hc might

live many years to wear the same . The Past Misters of the lodge were most worthy and all sufficiently capable to pilot the lodge off any rocks or shoals if ever they appeared . In reply , Bro . Cogliati , I . P . M ., most sincerely thanked the W . M . for such kind expressions towards him , and also to the brethren for their so cordially receiving the same . He was proud of the honour of Past Mis : er of a lodge such as this , and had conscientiously carried out his duties . He would promise the brethren to still give the lodge his assistance , and as he had navigate I it with the help of his brother officers during the past year , so he would continue to do all in h * s power to maintain its prestige in the future .

Bros . Thiellay ( founder of the lodge ) , Makeham , and Grassi also ably responded , the latter remarking on the unavoidable absence of Bro . Bertini , P . M ., the esteemed manager of the hotel , who was called away on special business on the Continent . The toast of "The Visitors" was presented by the W . M . most ordially , and he remarked among them were many most distinguished brethren , aid also fiat thjra was one brother present ( Bro . Elliott ) , who was still a minor , he hiving been initiated by his respected father , Bro . G . S . Elliott , by dispensation , who certainly held a most uiiquj ubuuiiaim uie tne 01 rimer all ot

Langley , and Hambleton , who congratulated the lod-je on the choice of their W . M ., their new home , so different to the suburbs in Greenwich , the hospitality displayed , and , above all , upon the beneficence of the brethren , who were ever ready to support any good cause . One and all agreed there was a bright and happy future before the lodge , and paid a high compliment to the offi ; ers , who so ably carried out their respective

duties . The W . M . next gave the toast of "The Treasurer and Secretary , " remarking they were two such excellent officers and worthy of the esteem of the brethren . In Bro . Cowley , P . M ., Treas ., the funds were thoroughly safe , which he guarded most faithfully . Of Bro . T . Grummant , P . M ., Sec , the W . M . was grateful to him for accepting that position , for none were better qualified to perform the duties . Through the heaity co-operation of the Treasurer and Secretary the lodge was in its p resent most haoov

and flourishing position . He would ask the brethren to drink to the toast in bumpers . In reply , Bro . T . Grummant , Sec , apologised for Bro . Wm . Cowley , the respected Treasurer , being obliged to leave through living * out of London , but he was one of the oldest members of the lodge , and had done good and suitable service as their Treasurer for many years , which honour he greatly appreciated . As regarded himself , it was the

tenth occasion he had been invested as Secretary , and his services would be extended to the W . M . as faithfully as his predecessors . It was a delight to him to act as such in that , his mother , Iodge , and he should endeavour to maintain its prestige and in supporting those noble Masonic Institutions , to which the lodge had been mist deeply attached . He must again remind the brethren he hoped to represent the bJ »; at tne centenary Festival of the Boys next year , and he trusted the brethren would assist him to their utmost to enable him to take up such a list as would be worthy of them .

The toast of " The Officers " received at the hands of the W . M . that measure of praise it so well deserved . The Senior and Junior Wardens responded . The Tyler ' s toast closed an eventful and happy meeting . An excellent programme of music was provided under tne able Organist , Bro . ] . Li Calsi , P . M ., who presided at tbe piano , ably assisted by Mr . Jos . Claus , Bros . Barry Linden , Grassi , Tinelli , Hambleton (' cello ) , and Wilson ( oboe ) .

This being a banner lodge , the W . M . 's banner was raised , which gave great satisfaction . Two propositions for initiation , and two for joining members were handed to the Secretary .
