It is understood that the Princess of Wales will visit the Queen at Windsor on the 12 th December , and remain over the anniversary ( the 14 th ) of the death of the Prince Consort and Princess Alice . Bro . Lord Herschell ( Lord Chancellor ) and Bros , the Right Hon . G . J . Shaw-Lefevre and Sir George O . Trevelya 11 Bart ., attended the Cabinet Council , which was held in Downing-street on Monday .

Hants and Isle of Wight , has been gazetted to receive the Volunteer decoration , after 2 S years' service in the ist Hants Artillery Volunteers and the 2 nd V . B . Hampshire Regiment . This decoration will be presented next Monday by H . R . H . the Duke of Connaught .

Bro . the Earl and Countess of Londesborough and the Ladies Dension have arrived in Grosvenor-square from their seat in the North , and will remain in London till after Christmas .
Monday being the 52 nd birthday of the Empress Frederick of Germany , ( Princess Royal of Great Britain ) , the church bells of Windsor were rung , and a Royal salute fired in the Long Walk . The Duchess of Teck opened a bazaar at the Athen .-cum , Enfield , on Saturday last , in aid of the local College Hospital , to which a new wing , in commemoration of the Queen ' s Jubilee , has just been added .
We are glad to hear that Bro . Harry Nicholls , who has been prostrated by serious illness for so long a time , has so far advanc ed on his road towards convalescence that his medical advisers have allowed him to seek change of air at Hastings , where , we trust , he will be speedily restored to his usual health .

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress attended the annual vocal music competition which is promottd by the London School Board , and was held in Exeter Hall , on Tuesday . Sir Jc hn Stainer and Mr . W . McNaught acted as judges , and the Challenge Medallion was awarded to the children of the Fleet Schools . This was duly presented b y the Lady Mayoress , and the proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to her ladyship for attending .
To-day ( Friday ) her Royal Highness the Duchess of Teck will open the new wing of the Boys' Industrial School , Hillfield-road , West Hampstead , which has been erected to commemorate the Jubilee of the ' * Field-lane Ragged Schools and Refuses , " established in 1 S 41 by the
late Bro . the Earl of Shaftesbury . The new wing will accommodate an additional 40 boys , and incudes an infirmary and covered playground . HE THOUGHT IT WAS A RITUAL . —In the Shrewsbury County Court , on Monday , the 7 th inst ., before Juilfjc Harris , Lea , Erskine and Co ., of Birmingham , sued Harry Smith , wool merchant , of St . John ' s-hill . for five guineas , for three volumes of the " History of Freemasonry " ordered by him and returned . Mr . Bishop , plaintiff ' s traveller , called upon the defendant , who is a Freemason , and showed him a prospectus of the work and also a sample
of the engravings and printed matter , and defendant signed a written order for the three volumes . They were delivered and returned without any explanation . The defence was that defendant was led to understand that the work would contain instructions as to the duties of the different officers and the ritual of the lodges , and if it contained what ho required he was willing to take it . His Honour gave judgment for the amount claimed .
MASONIC AT HOME . —An exceedingly successful and enjoyable "At Home" was held at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on the 15 th inst ., under the auspices of the Royal Brunswick and St . Ctcilia Lodges . 1 he arrangements were of a thorough character , and over 400 guests were entertained in a most liberal manner from eight o ' clock lilt long past the " witching hour . " The whole of the lo . \ er suite of rooms were engaged , and looking particulaily
brilliant under a profuse display of lloral and other dec rations . The guests were cordially received by Bros . The Duchess of Teck , accompanied by the Princess May , was present at a meeting in the Oak Room of Hampton Court Palace , on Tuesday , of the Surrey Ladies ' Needlework Guild , for the purpose of assorting and packing the work sent in during the year ' prior to its distribution among the poor at the East-end of London .
The Duke of York has very graciously consented to preside at the festival dinner which will be held early in the spring of 1 S 93 in aid of the Great Northern Central Hospital buildings , Holloway-road . A sum of £ 27 , 000 is required for the extension and the necessary furniture and fittings , and of this only jfSooo has been promised or received .
By the Queen ' s command , the band of the Grenadier Guards , under Bro . Lieut . Dan Godfrey , and that of the ist Dragoon Guards played on the East Terrace , Windsor Castle , on Sunday afternoon last from 3 to 4 p . m ., several thousands of residents and visitors being admitted to the promenade and taking up position on the terrace overlooking the slopes and the Home Park .

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress attended the annual vocal music competition which is promottd by the London School Board , and was held in Exeter Hall , on Tuesday . Sir Jc hn Stainer and Mr . W . McNaught acted as judges , and the Challenge Medallion was awarded to the children of the Fleet Schools . This was duly presented b y the Lady Mayoress , and the proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to her ladyship for attending .
To-day ( Friday ) her Royal Highness the Duchess of Teck will open the new wing of the Boys' Industrial School , Hillfield-road , West Hampstead , which has been erected to commemorate the Jubilee of the ' * Field-lane Ragged Schools and Refuses , " established in 1 S 41 by the
late Bro . the Earl of Shaftesbury . The new wing will accommodate an additional 40 boys , and incudes an infirmary and covered playground . Its erection has cost £ i 95 ° i . ° f which £ 1000 remains unsubscribed , and , as the Institution has done good work , we trust this sum will be speedily contributed .

A new gymnasium attached to the schools in Stamfordstreet was opened on Saturday last by Bro . Lord Ashbourne President of the Benevolent Society of St . Patrick , who ' in the course of his remarks , paid a handsome tribute of respect to the late Bro . the Earl of Milltown , by whom the idea of tiecting the gymnasium was started , and whose widow has most generously carried out his intentions .

Henry Irving , a special meeting of the members of the Actor ' s Association was held at the Lyceum Theatre , on Tuesday , for the purpose of considering a form of " memorandum of agreement , " which has been prepared by the council of the association for use in theatrical engagements between actors and managers . Bro . Irving presided , and among those present were Bros . T . N . Bolton , M . P . ( honorary member ) , William Terris , Lionel Brough , and others .

HE THOUGHT IT WAS A RITUAL . —In the Shrewsbury County Court , on Monday , the 7 th inst ., before Juilfjc Harris , Lea , Erskine and Co ., of Birmingham , sued Harry Smith , wool merchant , of St . John ' s-hill . for five guineas , for three volumes of the " History of Freemasonry " ordered by him and returned . Mr . Bishop , plaintiff ' s traveller , called upon the defendant , who is a Freemason , and showed him a prospectus of the work and also a sample
of the engravings and printed matter , and defendant signed a written order for the three volumes . They were delivered and returned without any explanation . The defence was that defendant was led to understand that the work would contain instructions as to the duties of the different officers and the ritual of the lodges , and if it contained what ho required he was willing to take it . His Honour gave judgment for the amount claimed .
MASONIC AT HOME . —An exceedingly successful and enjoyable "At Home" was held at the Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on the 15 th inst ., under the auspices of the Royal Brunswick and St . Ctcilia Lodges . 1 he arrangements were of a thorough character , and over 400 guests were entertained in a most liberal manner from eight o ' clock lilt long past the " witching hour .
