The Grand Lodge of the State of New York in their just-ended session decided to wipe our at once the half million still owed for the Temple in New York city . Of this debt 400 , 000 dollars are in first mortgage 7 per cent , bonds , which do not mature until 1891 , but the Trustees have contained a decision in a test case that the holders must accept prepayment .

This being so , we venture to predict for this new undertaking a very bright future , since the names of those connected with it is quite sufficient to ensure its success . The Prince of Wales , as representative of the Queen , laid the foundation-stone of the Tower Bridge on Monday afternoon . His Royal Highness , who was accompanied by the Princess of Wales , Prince Albert Victor , and the Princesses Louise , Victoria , ar . d Maud was attended b y the Great Officers of her Majesty ' s household , and escorted by the 2 nd Life Guards . On arriving at the Tower the

Royal party were received by Field Marshal Sir R . Dacres , the Constable , and other of the Tower officials , by whom they were conducted to the Pavilion , which had been erected for the occasion , and in which were gathered the chief Civic dignitaries , including Bros . and Baxter , the members of the Bridge House Estates Committee , and others . A procession was at once formed to the stone , in which , in addition to those already named , Bros . Alderman Sir J . Goldney ( Kemembancer ) took part , and the site having been reached , the distinguished visitors were seated ,

and the Recorder read an address , which was briefly acknowledged by the Prince . The ceremony of laying the stone was then duly carried out , and the Bishop of London having offered up a prayer and the Tower guns having fired a Royal salute , the ceremony came to an end . Bros .
