Bro . Lieut .-Col . Kirby , who is one of the candidates for the Shrievalty of London and Middlesex , has been nominated a Justice of the Peace for Kent by the Lord Lieutenant of the county . President Cleveland has accepted the honorary presidency of the American Exhibition to be held in

London in 1 SS 7 , and will perform the opening ceremony by telegraph from the White House . Bro . Spiegel , P . M ., has accepted the invitation from the Ranelagh Lodge to deliver his lecture on the Origin of Freemasonry this day ( Friday ) at the Seven Bells , Queen-street , Hammersmith .

The brethren of East Cowes , Isle of Wi g ht , have forwarded a petition praying for the granting of a new lodge to be called the Osborne . The P . G . M ., we believe , has strongly recommended the same .

Mr . Horace B , Marshall , jun ., son of Bro . Horace B . Marshall , P . G . Treasurer , has presented a handsome silver challenge cup for competition among the members of the St . Bride ' s Youths' Institute Swimming Club .

The Grand Lodge of the State of New York in their just-ended session decided to wipe our at once the half million still owed for the Temple in New York city . Of this debt 400 , 000 dollars are in first mortgage 7 per cent , bonds , which do not mature until 1891 , but the Trustees have contained a decision in a test case that the holders must accept prepayment .

The Provincial Grand Lodge of London and Metropolitan Counties , Royal Order of Scotland , will meet at 33 , Golden-square , on Saturday next , the 3 rd prox ., at 2 . 30 for 3 p . m .

Her Majesty s Judges will attend divine service in St . Paul ' s Cathedral , on Sunday next , the 27 th inst ., Bro . the Lord Mayor and other members of the Corporation being present on the occasion . A numerously attended meeting was held in the

Rink Hal ) , Blackheath , on Tuesday , in order to promote the Hospital Sunday Fund , Bros . Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild , M . P ., and Baron Henry de Worms , M . P ., being among the many friends of the movement who were present .

Members of the Sincerity Lodge , No . 189 , at their regular meeting held on the 15 th inst ., at St . George ' s Hall , Stonehouse , unanimously elected Bro . Chas . Fred . Dunsterville as their W . His address will be delivered on the 23 rd of this month , and will doubtless prove a great success , as he is fully competent to speak on that intricate subject . Bro . C . E . Meyer has made all the arrangements , and in the most fraternal

manner met Bro . Chapman at New York , so as to give him a friendly greeting on his arrival in America , as a pilgrim from the " old country . " P ROPOSED C HAPTER OF I NSTRUCTION FOR SOUTH LONDON . —We are informed that a number of energetic Royal Arch Masons in South London contemplate forming a chapter of instruction , to be held at the Prince

Regent , Dulwich-road , Heme Hill , S . E ., on Saturday evenings throughout the year , at 7 . 30 o ' clock . Their system of working will be that for which our highly esteemed Comp . Thos . Poore , P . M ., P . Z ., Sic , has such a well-earned notoriety , and we understand they have

obtained the services of one of the most biilliant of his pupils as their Preceptor . This being so , we venture to predict for this new undertaking a very bright future , since the names of those connected with it is quite sufficient to ensure its success . We shall doubtless be in a position to give further particulars in a subsequent issue .

The members of the Lion and Lamb Lod ge , No . 192 , have arranged to hold their summer festival at the Clarence Hotel , Teddington , the day selected for the festivity being Tuesday , the 20 th July prox . Tickets for ladies or gentlemen , to include railway fare , drive , dinner , wine , Sic , 17 s . ( id . each . It is requested that applications for tickets be made to the Secretary of the lodgeBro . On Thursday , the 17 th inst ., the members of the Bootle Lodge , No . 1473 , and their friends , held the annual pic-nic at Buxton . The party numbered about 70 , and among those present were Bros . Robert Scott , W . M ., to whom the thanks of the lodge are due for such an enjoyable day , as he had made most of the arrangements ; I . Platts , I . P . M . ; Hartley , P . M . ; W . R . Brewster , P . M . ;

W . Quayle , Vaughan , Hogarth , and Captain Hughes . The party were most satisfactorily catered for by Mr . Blades , of the Royal Hotel , Buxton . Some of the party drove to Teddington , others to the " Cat and Fiddle , in the visitors' book of which , some very amusing scribblings were discovered . The majority of the party visited the wells , all of which were decorated with appropriate scripture texts .

The Prince of Wales , as representative of the Queen , laid the foundation-stone of the Tower Bridge on Monday afternoon . His Royal Highness , who was accompanied by the Princess of Wales , Prince Albert Victor , and the Princesses Louise , Victoria , ar . d Maud was attended b y the Great Officers of her Majesty ' s household , and escorted by the 2 nd Life Guards . On arriving at the Tower the

Royal party were received by Field Marshal Sir R . Dacres , the Constable , and other of the Tower officials , by whom they were conducted to the Pavilion , which had been erected for the occasion , and in which were gathered the chief Civic dignitaries , including Bros . Lord Mavor Staples , Alderman and Sheriff Evans , Sheriff Clarice , Horace Jones ( City Architect ) , Under-Sheriffs Rose-Inncs

and Baxter , the members of the Bridge House Estates Committee , and others . A procession was at once formed to the stone , in which , in addition to those already named , Bros . Alderman Sir J . VV . Ellis , Bart ., M . P . ; Alderman Sir F . VV . Truscott , Sir J . B . Monckton ( Town Clerk ) , and G . P . Goldney ( Kemembancer ) took part , and the site having been reached , the distinguished visitors were seated ,

and the Recorder read an address , which was briefly acknowledged by the Prince . The ceremony of laying the stone was then duly carried out , and the Bishop of London having offered up a prayer and the Tower guns having fired a Royal salute , the ceremony came to an end . Bros . T . Beard and F . Green , and Bro . Horace Jones with others , were presented to his Royal Highness , and the party then

The Grand Lodge of the State of New York in their just-ended session decided to wipe our at once the half million still owed for the Temple in New York city . The Prince of Wales , as representative of the Queen , laid the foundation-stone of the Tower Bridge on Monday afternoon . His Royal Highness , who was accompanied by the Princess of Wales , Prince Albert Victor , and the Princesses Louise , Victoria , ar . d Maud was attended b y the Great Officers of her Majesty ' s household , and escorted by the 2 nd Life Guards . On arriving at the Tower the

Royal party were received by Field Marshal Sir R . Dacres , the Constable , and other of the Tower officials , by whom they were conducted to the Pavilion , which had been erected for the occasion , and in which were gathered the chief Civic dignitaries , including Bros . Goldney ( Kemembancer ) took part , and the site having been reached , the distinguished visitors were seated ,

and the Recorder read an address , which was briefly acknowledged by the Prince . The ceremony of laying the stone was then duly carried out , and the Bishop of London having offered up a prayer and the Tower guns having fired a Royal salute , the ceremony came to an end . Bros .
