of F . C Bro . Hewdry was raised to the Degree of M . M . Bro . T . B . Whytehead presented to the lodge a portrait of Bro . Wolley , the last Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of all England , at York in 1792 , which had been handsomely framed by Bro . W . B . Dyson , and the thanks of the lodge were voted to Bros . Whytehead and Dyson for their joint gift . A letter was read from the W . M . stating that his

health was somewhat improved , and trusting that he would , in August , be able once more to resume his chair . Bro . T . B . Whytehead announced that on the 9 th July it was anticipated that the Grand Secretary of Scotland , Bro . Murray Lyon , and several other leading Scotch Masons would be in York , and he had arranged for an emergency meeting on that evening , when a candidate would be raised

and the Northern brethren would be present as visitors , and he trusted the brethren would muster in goodly numbers to do honour to their friends from Edinburgh . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren assembled round the board of refreshment , and the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . Proposing "The Queen , " Bro . Whytehead said he

trusted that within their own walls no such disgraceful scandal would ever be enacted as that which had been reported to have occurred in a Southern assemblage of brethren , when a certain member of the Order declined to rise or to drink the health of their beloved Queen . Such a man was a disgrace to the Order , to the nation , and to humanity , and a violator of his supreme duties as a

Freemason . If he were presiding at any Masonic meeting where such an incident took place he would take good care that the brother so conducting himself should be summarily ejected , and should not again present himself upon the lodge premises until he had purged his guilt . The brethren warmly applauded this expression of opinion , and exhibited feelings that augured badly for the comfort of any disloyal wretch who might happen to sneak into the rooms of the Eboracum Lodge .

The toast of "The Provincial Grand Master" was responded to by Bro . C . G . Padel , P . P . G . O ., and the several candidates made notable speeches in response to their respective healths . The various improvements made in the building are monthly the source of congratulation with the members , and there are now few things wanting to make the Eboracum Masonic Hall one of the most complete Masonic homes in the country .

ceremonies were worked in a highly creditable manner by the W . M ., assisted by his officers . The W . M . announced to the brethren the result of the Girls' Festival last month , and the support given by the province to its chief , Bro . General Brownrigg , which was verv warmly received . and the usual routine business , lodge was closed . The brethren and visitors then adjourned to the hotel for supper . The usual Masonic and patriotic toasts were given and heartily responded to . CONSETT . —Constance Lodge ( No . 2135 ) . — A general meeting of this lodge was held at the Masonic Hall , on Wednesday evening , the 16 th inst . The R . W . P . G . M ., Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., was present to witness the raising of Bro . John Calvert , one of the oldest inhabitants of the district , who has attained the ripe age of 74 years .
