LANCASTER . —Duke of Lancaster Lodge ( No . ' 353 ) - —The above lodge has sustained a very severe loss in the death of Bro . Dale , P . AL , one of its most active and influential members , and Treasurer and Charity Steward of the lodge . Bro . Dale was present at the lodge meeting on the 17 th ult ., and then gave notice of his intention to propose at the next meeting that the sum of £ 10 be voted from the funds to the Institution for Aged Freemasons ,
and he undertook to collect subscriptions from members , and convey the amount personally to thc annual meeting of the Institution . Before he could carry out his charitable intention he was seized with a severe illness , and died in three weeks from the day he was first confined to his room . Bro . Dale was highly respected by his fellow townsmen , and beloved b y all the members of the Craft who had the pleasure of his friendship , and his death , at the early age of
forty-six , is mourned by all who knew him . His remains were interred in the cemetery , Lancaster , on the 14 th inst ., when about 100 members of thc Craft attended thc funeral as a last mark of respect to their dead brother . The brethren wore sprigs of acacia , and walked in Masonic order . At the meeting of the lodge on Wednesday , the 15 th inst ., the members appeared in mourning , and the pedestals , and the chair which the deceased brother was
accustomed to occupy as Treasurer , were draped in black cloth . The W . M . ( Bro . VV . Parker ) expressed his sorrow at thc loss thc lodge had sustained in the death of so good a Mason , and a true friend , and called upon Bro . John Bell , the senior P . AL present , to Propose a vote of condolence to the widow and family of the dead . Bro . Bell said he rose with feelings of great pain and sorrow to propose that a letter of condolence be sent to the widow
and children of their lamented Bro . Dale , on the sad bereavement they had sustaincd"in the loss of a dear husband and father . He need not dilate on the character of their lamented brother , who was well-known to them all . A more worthy brother they could not have had amongst them ; kind and full of sympathy ; always ready to aid in any good work , and ever the first to lend a helping hand to those who might need assistance , whether
to a brother or those outside the _ Craft . It was now turned seven years since their dead brother was initiated into Masonry , and his death was especially affecting to the _ speaker , as he had thc honour of introducing him into thc Craft . He would not say more than propose that a letter of condolence be sent to the widow and children of their late brother , and expressing the sympathy of the members
of the lodge on thc irreparable loss they had sustained , and praying that the Great Architect ol the Universe would sustain them in their sad affliction . Bro . John Acton , P . M . and Secretary , seconded the proposition of Bro . Bell , saying that he did so , feeling sorrowful for the death of so worthy and zealous a brother as F . G . Dale , P . AL' All thebrethren knew how
much their deceased brother had Freemasonry at heartespecially the Masonic Charities . He had been appointed Steward of those Charities three times , and had made himself a Life Governor of the Royal Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemasons . In private life he was also very charitable , and amongst the first to promote a good cause . Such a man was well worthy to bc a Mason , and his loss was
