Town , Past District Grand Officer ; T . Wilsoi , P . M . 132 s ; S . A . Stinger , P . M . 12 ; and Walter Fisher , 2411 . Bro . J . J . Olley , W . M . 2511 , said he was extremely pleased to have been called upon to respond to the toast . The W . M . was S . W . in his ( Bro . Olley ' s ) lodge and he had made way for him to keep himself free to be installed VV . M . of the Clapton , his mother ledge . The W . M . was a true and good Mason and he felt the members should be proud of him , as he thought they were , and he hoped they would all give him earnest support because he deserved it , and , concluding , he gave the members a cordial

invitation to attend his lodge . Bro . E . T . M . Notcutt also acknowledged the toast , thanking the VV . M . and the members for the way the visitors had been received and entertained . He had been looking forward for years for that evening , to again visit that , his mother lodge . It was six years since he was there , but he had been away at the Cape , where he would have to return shortly . Time would not permit him to relate what he had seen of Masonry at the Cape , but his experience was that wherever one went in Masonic circles they found plenty c f friends , and he gave a few interesting details of his travels in Masonry . He was glad to be in the lodge once again , but he missed Bro . Fairclough and other dear friends who had gone to the Grand Lodge above .

Bro . J . Wilson , P . M . 132 S , said that he had been a Mason for 25 years , and had never seen the installation ceremony better rendered , and he had thoroughly enjoyed his visit . Bro . S . A . Stanger , P . M . 12 , said that he endorsed everything with emphasis what had been said of the LP . M . ' s working , which was very impressive , and he added that too much could not be said of the W . M . ' s good qualities . Bros . Walter Fisher and J . C . Nicholson , P . M ., also responded , bearing testimony to the excellent working and the lavish hospitality of the members .

In presenting the toast ot " The Charities , " the Worshipful Master stated that it was a toast that should always be given at every Masonic gathering . In eloquent terms , he urged the members to give liberally—they would never miss it—and he joined the name of Bro . D . Campbell , P . M ., with the toast . Bro . D . Campbell , P . M ., responded . He said it was entirely in the wisdom of the W . M . that he should be called upon at a moment ' s notice to respond to the important toast of the Charities , but was afraid he could not give it proper justice ; however , the

subject was one that did not require any eloquence , as the toast in itself was enough to inspire a large amount . The three Institutions were the best in the world , and all Masons should support them . Masons helped those in distress—if they did not do so they would not be worthy to be called Masons . The W . M . had kindly consented to go up as Steward for the Boys at the forthcoming festival , and he hoped the members would send him with such a list large in amount as to make the lodge a Vice-President of the Boys , as they were of the Girls , and he would be disappointed if such a result

was not achieved . The lodge had not been backward in supporting the Charities , and might it always be so in the future . The Charity box having been passed round , the W . M . announced that its contents for that evening amounted to £ 2 12 s . In giving " The Past Mas ' . ers , " the W . M . stated that it was an important toast as they were the backbone of the lodge , and were all the best of fellows . Bro . W . Finch , P . M ., said it was a great pleasure to him as the oldest Past Master present , to have to respond . The installation ceremony that evening had never been

performed better in the Clapton Lodge and if it was ever required the PastMastcrs would be only too happy to do what they could for the lodge . Bro . Luker , P . M ., also responded , observing that it was 14 or 15 years since he responded for the toast of the Initiates , and he was proud that night to be sitting as a Past Master with two Grand Officers . He agreed that the working of the I . P . M . had never been excelled in the lodge . He had spent many pleasant evenings there and he hoped for more . Bro . J . D . Geddes , P . M ., stated that he had very little to add after the eloquence of' the other Pasf MnsfprC- hill ho rninpirlprl unfh fhpir r # » marlrc 9 . fn fill . nvAmnhru

working of Bro . A . H . Church , and it was difficult to express in words his admiration of the courtesy of the I . P . M . to them all while he was in the chair and his services to the lodge would never be forgotten . In the W . M . they had one of the very best and he would not be found wanting in any way . The W . M . gave "The Treasurer and Secretary . " He said they deserved every praise for their great efforts . They were both well tried and excellent officers—impossible to have better—and he was gratified to have their services during his year of office .

Bro . W . Blackburn , P . M ., Treas ., who was well received , thanked the VV . M . for his kind words . The lodge was in a good financial position , the outgoing Master leaving with a larger balance on the right side than they had when he went into the chair . Bro . W . D . Church , P . M ., Sec , on rising , was received with acclamation . He thanked the W . M . for again appointing him to the office of Secretary . He had been ill , but his doctor gave him permission to attend that evening , and he felt all the better

for it . He hoped that he was giving them satisfaction , and that he should continue to do so . The prosperity of the lodge meant giving liberally to the three Institutions , which they were all anxious to support . Might he mention that he was more than proud to hear their good opinions of his son's working . They knew the I . P . M . was his first initiate , and his great success in the lodge made him , his father , a very happy man . The next toast was " The Officers , " the W . M . stating that they were all good men and were ready at once to take higher office . He was proud of them , and he felt sure

they would give him every assistance , and if he ( the W . M . ) turned out a success , the officers would be the cause of that result . Suitable responses were made by Bros . T . T . Gething , J . W . ; F . Orfeur , S . D . : F . J . Thayre , P . M ., J . D . ; and G . Schilling , I . G . The Tyler's toast brought to an end one of the many of the happy meetings of the Clapton Lodge it has been our privilege and pleasure to attend . The musical entertainment was excellently carried out under the able direction of Bro . Harry Green , in which the following also took part : Miss Ada Hunt Smith , Miss

Isabclle Wallace , and Mr . Walter J . Walls , but special mention should be made of Bro . Harry Green , whose great efforts were much appreciated . Bro . E . Scullamore White , Org ., ably presided at the pianoforte . Bro . F . C . Lintott , the W . M ., was initiated in the Clapion Lodge , in which he has served the several offices . Our brother was a founder ot the St . John at Hackney Lodge , No . 2511 , of which he is now S . W . for the second time , having given way for the J . W . to go into the chair . Also founder of the St . John at Hackney Chapter , No . 2 5 11 , in which he is Princip d Sojourner . M . signified his intention of representing the lodge at the Centenary Festival of the Boys' School , and , correspondence having been read , the lodge was closed . The brethren adjourned to a choice banquet , which wis followed by the usual loyal and Masonic toasts .

Bro . J . J . Thomas , P . G . S . B ., replied for "The Grand Officers , " and returned hearty thanks for the kind reception given the toast . Bro . Walter Martin , P . A . G . P ., also replied . He said he had known the W . M . for 20 years , and hoped he would continue to show the same juvenile spirit for many years to come . "The Worshipful Master" was next given by Bro . Mansell Powell , I . P . M ., who said they all knew Bro . Stiles so well , and he had done so much for the Order , that it would be unnecessary to add more in submitting the toast .

Bro . W . M . Stiles , W . M ., P . G . Treas ., in responding , said that they were all aware that the chief characteristic of their W . M . was his modesty , and that he could say more about others than about himself . Having been associated as a founder , he was pleased to attain the position of W . M . of the Hendon Lodge , and having be ; n in office since its foundation , fought its battles , and stuck to it right through , he was not going to do otherwise than his ievel best now he was in the post of government as W . M . He would strive to his utmost to make the lodge a greater suncess , and kjep the same good feeling together . He was proud to be their W . M ., and to find such a happy gathering , and thanked them for their hearty reception .

The W . M . then proposed "The Installing Master , " and said he did not know what to say about Bro . Scurrah . They all knew him as one of the best fellows in the world , and as one who had rendered conspicuous service to Masonry , and their own lodge particularly . That was the eighth occasion on which he ( the W . M . ) had been installed , and those with any knowledge of the ceremony , would say that Bro . Scurrah did it very well indeed . Bro . Scurrah wanted to install him , and had done so through the kindness of Bro . Powell , I . P . M . In other Degrees Bro . Scurrah was a thorough master , and evinced the same painstaking manner as in the Craft .

Bro . W . A . Scurrah , P . G . S . B ., thanked the W . M . for his kind remarks . He wished to give credit where credit was due , and therefore thanked the I . P . M . for hiving given way to allow him to instal Bro . Stiles . Knowing that Bro . Stiles and he were old friends , Bro . Powell , I . P . M ., said it would give him great pleasure to hear him ( Bro . Scurrah ) perform that ceremony . The W . M . celebrated his jubilee birthday a week or two ago and if he was not capable of governing a lodge at that age he ought to be . All would congratulate Bro . Stiles on arriving at that age and also on being in a good state of health for they would remember his serious condition when

undergoing an operation some time since . They congratulated him upon being W . M , of this lodge and trusted he would have a happy year of office . He ( Bro . Scurrah ) did the installation to the best of his ability and hoped it had met with their approval , and this would ever be a red letter day to him . He congratulated the members on the position of the lodge at the present timj . Th : y w ; re in ths hippy position of bVing able to take each other by the hand with the most cordial and fraterml feeling , and if this did not constitute a successful lodge he did not know whit did . The harmony prevailing was an earnest of happiness in the future and he wis grateful to think they were in that happy position . He thanked them for the kind way in which the toast had been proposed and received .

Th : y w ; re in ths hippy position of bVing able to take each other by the hand with the most cordial and fraterml feeling , and if this did not constitute a successful lodge he did not know whit did .
