A DISASTROUS _ collision occurred on Wednesday between the Ika and the Cunard Liner steamer Tyria , Captain Bacon , just when the former vessel was entering and the latter leaving Fiume Harbour . The result was that the Ika was cut in two , and sunk in two or three minutes . _ The Tyria rendered all the assistance in her power , and 23 persons were rescued , but it is believed that about 50 are lost . A strong bora was raging at the time , and rain was descending heavily . It is not known with whom the blame for the disaster rests .
BRIGHTON KEGATrA , which had already been put off three times , came off on Saturday last , thus bringing the South Coast Regatta season to a close for the present year . John on Saturday afternoon last , at very short notice , played ' * La Perichole , " and with such success that she was not only heartily applauded by the audience for the rendering of the part , but at the final fall of the curtain received loud applause and congratulations from the members of the company assembled on the stage . Miss St . John's indisposition was fortunately only of a temporary nature and she was able to resume her part the same evening .
AVERY UNUSUAL mishap occurred at Drury Lane Theatre on Saturday evening last . The house was packed in every part and the orchestra were playing the overture to "The White Heather , " the new drama which has proved so great a success , when it was found that the huge hydraulic lift , which was put up about a year ago by the late Bro . Sir A . Harris , would not work properly , and th re was no alternative but for the
management to cause it to be announced that the piece could not be performed that evening , and that all money would be returned . As soon as the audience realised the situation they rose and filed out quietly . The only inconvenience experienced was the absence of cabs , Sic , at such an hour , carriages having been ordered for 11 o ' clock However , this was soon remedied .

A DISASTROUS _ collision occurred on Wednesday between the Ika and the Cunard Liner steamer Tyria , Captain Bacon , just when the former vessel was entering and the latter leaving Fiume Harbour . The result was that the Ika was cut in two , and sunk in two or three minutes . _ The Tyria rendered all the assistance in her power , and 23 persons were rescued , but it is believed that about 50 are lost . A strong bora was raging at the time , and rain was descending heavily . It is not known with whom the blame for the disaster rests .
BRIGHTON KEGATrA , which had already been put off three times , came off on Saturday last , thus bringing the South Coast Regatta season to a close for the present year . The Mayor and Mayoress and Corporation witnessed the proceedings from the head of the West Pier , while the Corporation band played on it during the whole of the afternoon . There was also a large gathering of spectators along the beach , and wherever a good view was obtainable . There wire iG events on the card , which were most ot them well contested , and in the evening there was an illuminated water fete arranged by the Naval Volunteer Cruising Club .
THE MANAGEMENT of the Garrick Theatre are to be congratulated on possessing so capable an understudy as Miss Maud Boyd , who , owing to the sudden indisposition of Miss Florence St . John on Saturday afternoon last , at very short notice , played ' * La Perichole , " and with such success that she was not only heartily applauded by the audience for the rendering of the part , but at the final fall of the curtain received loud applause and congratulations from the members of the company assembled on the stage . Miss St . John's indisposition was fortunately only of a temporary nature and she was able to resume her part the same evening .
AVERY UNUSUAL mishap occurred at Drury Lane Theatre on Saturday evening last . The house was packed in every part and the orchestra were playing the overture to "The White Heather , " the new drama which has proved so great a success , when it was found that the huge hydraulic lift , which was put up about a year ago by the late Bro . Sir A . Harris , would not work properly , and th re was no alternative but for the
management to cause it to be announced that the piece could not be performed that evening , and that all money would be returned . As soon as the audience realised the situation they rose and filed out quietly . The only inconvenience experienced was the absence of cabs , Sic , at such an hour , carriages having been ordered for 11 o ' clock However , this was soon remedied .
