Critchnell into Masonry ,, and he leaves behind him a brilliant record for good and faithful service that will last for ages . Bro . J . Warren , P . presented with a Secretary's collar and jewel , and it was unanimously resolved that a Past secretary's jewel of the value of seven guineas , together with an address , to be engrossed and illuminated en vellum and handsomely mounted and framed , should be presented to him to mark the brethren ' s appreciation of his services during the past nine years he has held the important position of Secretary of the lodge . Bro . Warren 1 Ti ™ turned 'hanks , Bro . Nichols , I . P . M ., was presented with a handsome and valuable Past Master ' s jewel as some slight token of the esteem of the brethren and for valuable

services rendered the lodge during his year of office , for which he returned thanks . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren went by special train to London , and rTfTi . at the Holborn Restaurant . his power of speech was very much limited . Oa that occisio ^ his feelings were such that he could do no more than heartily thank them for placing him in such a high position , and also for the cordial manner in which the toast had been received by them , and he could assure them that he should endeavour to carry out the duties of his office to their •satisfaction .

Bro . Roberts , P . M ., had the toast of "The Initiates placed in his hands . He said that they all knew ho . v necessary it was to have new blood introduced into the lodge to fill the place of those whom age , or other circumstances , removed from their ranks . As some fell out others came on . The previous evening three good candidates were admitted among tli 2 m and he was sure they would make excellent Masons . They had expressed themselves impressed and delighted with the ceremonv , and as they went on they would be even more impressed . Tie asked them to drink the toast with a good fire . Bros . Gage , Critchell , and Dilby suitably responded .

Bro . Hobson proposed the toast of '' The Visitors . " The brethren of the Nelson Lodge were never so happy as when they had plenty of visitors among them . They liked to extend the right hand of fellowship to the brethren of other lodges , and to welcome them both at their working and at the festive board . They hid 41 visitors present—a number of whom he enumerated . He was sure that further remirks from him were unnecessary , except to hope they had and would thoroughly enjoy themselves , and he called upon the brethren named by him to respond .

Bro . Russell , W . M . 13 , said it gave him a great amount of pleasure to be present , not only to witness the ceremonies of raising and passing by their I . P . M ., but to witness the splendid manner in which Bro . Warren , P . M ., had performed the ceremony of installation that day . He congratulated the W . M . on being raised to the proud position of W . M . of such an excellent lodge , and wished him a happy and prosperous year of office . Bro . Summery , V / . M . 913 , said one hardly knew what to say more than "thank you , very much . " Under the banner of the Nelson Lodge they always fared well and always would do so . He congratulated the W . M . on his excellent officers , and heartily wished the W . M . a good year with plenty of work to do .

Bro . Keeble . W . M . 615 , expressed his pleasure at being present and enjoying the hospitality of the Nelson Lodge . ' He was sure they had installed a brother who was worthy of the position he had attained . , He added his best wishes to those of the other speakers , and trusted to be spared to be with them on many occasions . Bro . Lomas , P . M . Sandeman Lodge , Dum Dum , Bengal , India , who has been in

India for the last 13 years , also responded , and , among other items , informed the brethren that he had some little time before had the pleasure of installing Bro . G . Smith , a member of the Nelson Lodge , into the chair as W . M . of the Sandeman Lodge . He had much enjoyed himself , and gave the brethren a hearty offer to visit his lodge at Dum Dum .

Bro . Syer , P . M . 13 , said that after the response of the W . M . of his lodge , a word from him would be a work of supererogation , and perhaps infra dig , but , as the Past Master of the Sydney Lodge , he would take the opportunity of thanking them for their very kind and hearty reception of the visitors , himself among them , and he could only say that he wished the W . M . as good a year as his predecessor had hid . Bros . Hully , Ingle , Reeves , and La Feuillade also responded . Bro . Warren , whose health as Installing Officer had been eloquently proposed by

Bro . Tuffnell , and who was heartily cheered as he rose to respond , said he rose with a great amount of pleasure , and yet with a vast amount of diffidence , to respond to the toast so eulogistically given by Bro . Tufnell and so heartily received by the brethren . His work in the lodge , whether as officer , Master , or Installing Officer , had always been a labour of love , and if what he had done in either capacity hid b : en done to th ; ir satisfaction , then he felt that that was his reward . It had given him a vast amount of pleasure to install Bro Porter that day ; he had known Bro . Porter for a good many

years , and had always found him taking a great interest in the welfare of the lodge , and if the officers and brethren rallied round him , Bro . Porter would do his duty as well as it had been done by his predecessors . He cordially thanked them , and could assure them that although circumstances over which he had no control compelled him to decline the office of Secretary , yet they had a good man in Bro . Lawson to supply his place , and any assistance he could lend Bro . Lawson would be gladly extended to him . The other toasts were "The Past Masters" and "The Officers . " The Tyler ' s toast closed the proceedings .

The musical arrangements were , in the hands of Bro . H . Roberts , who accompanied , all that could be desired , and the artists were Miss Nellie Roberts , Miss Edith Bushel ) , Bros . E . B . Hobson , Albon Nash , and Frank Millward , and Mr . Walter Hengler .

The usual Past Mastcr ' sjjiwel was voted

to the retiring W . M . as a token of esteem and respect and in appre ; iitionof his services during his year of office . Bro . John Mark returned thanks in a suitable manner , and said he had then a very pleasing duty to perform , which wis to present to Bro . Tydeman , P . M ., an illuminated address subscribed for by members of the lodge in recognition of his services to the lodge as host at the Four Swans for miny years , he having recently Retired from that hotel . Critchnell into Masonry ,, and he leaves behind him a brilliant record for good and faithful service that will last for ages . Bro . J . Warren , P . M ., Sec , then ( by special request ) assumed the chair as Installing Officer , and in a masterly style installed the W . M . elect , who appointed and invested his officers as follows : Bros . G . presented with a Secretary's collar and jewel , and it was unanimously resolved that a Past secretary's jewel of the value of seven guineas , together with an address , to be engrossed and illuminated en vellum and handsomely mounted and framed , should be presented to him to mark the brethren ' s appreciation of his services during the past nine years he has held the important position of Secretary of the lodge . Bro . Warren 1 Ti ™ turned 'hanks , Bro . Nichols , I . P . M ., was presented with a handsome and valuable Past Master ' s jewel as some slight token of the esteem of the brethren and for valuable

The lodge was then closed , and the brethren went by special train to London , and rTfTi . at the Holborn Restaurant . The banquet was laid in the King's Hall of the c . atjlishment , and was served under the active supervision of the genial and courteous manager , and was much appreciated . 1 . his power of speech was very much limited .
