He thanked them for the toast , and for the way in which they had welcomed that new lodge in Sydenham .

Stephens , Mr . Robe .-ts , and Col . Tester , the latter being accompanied on the piano mi violin by Bro . F . Nevi 1 Tester and the W . M . The toast list included " The Queen and the Craft , " " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , K . G ., the Most Worshipful Grand Master , " * ' The M . W . Pro G . Master , Earl Amhsrst ; the R . VV . Deputy Grand Master , the Earl of Warwick j and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " which were proposed from the chair , the name of Bro . Richard Clowes , as " one of the best , " being coupled with the last toast , for which
he suitably responded . It ha-f given him great pleasure to accept the invitation of the W . M . to see him installed , and he thought the brethren must feel proud of the whole Tester family . The W . M ., as his natural diffidence and modesty wears off , would , he was sure , so conduct the affairs of the lod ^ e that all would be pleased to think they had admitted him . Having complimented the Installing Master on his excellent work , he hoped the W . M . would follow in the footsteps of his father , who must be proud to see his son placed in such an honourable position .
The VV . M . then proposed " The R . W . the Prov . Grand Master , the Earl Amherst , " a toast drunk with all honours . Bro . Rix proposed " The W . the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , Bro . J . Smith Eastes ( whose absence they very much regretted ) and the officers of the Prov . Grand Lodge , Present and Past , " mentioning particularly Bros . Preston and Ryder , brethren who took great interest in Masonry . Bros . Preston and Ryder responded , both of them congratulating the W . M . on having attained such a high position and the success of the day's proceedings .
The other toasts were " Ihe W . M ., " " The Installing Master , " " Ihe Visitors , " " The Past Masters , " " The Initiate , " and " The Officers of the Lodge . "
Dobie Lodge , No . 889 . The installation meeting was held on the 15 th inst . at the Young Men ' s Club , Kingston-on-Thames , with a good attendance of members and visitors , among the latter being representatives of adj-lining lodges . Bro . Gaze , W . M ., presided over the first part of the business , and as nothing beyond balloting for a joining member and consideration of the Auditors' report had to be done , the ceremony of installation was soon commenced . Bro . Long , the senior P . M ., presented Bro . W . J . Wells , S . W ., to theW . M .
as his duly elected successor , and with tiros . Chapman and Hayward , P . M . 83 / , in the Wardens' chairs , and Bro . G . R . Scott , I . P . M ., as D . C , Bro . Gaze ably installed the new Master . Bro . Wells appointed as officers for the year the following brethren , and invested each with a few appropriate sentences : Bros . George Cowen , M . D ., S . W . ; J . C . Mortimer , J . W . ; W . Drewett , P . M ., P . P . G . Std . Br ., Sec ; C . T . Lewis , S . D . ; W . Salt , J . D . ; Thos . Welham , I . G . ; J . R . Abbott , Org . ; C . L . Johnson , D . C ; J . Goodwin and J . R . Richardson , Stwds . ; andMurrells , Tyler . Bro . J . Drewett had been elected Treasurer , but to the regret of all he was unable to attend the meeting through
indisposition . The addresses were given with impressive eloquence by Bros . Scott Hayward and Chapman , and the VV . M . presented to his predecessor the Past Master ' s jewel voted to him by the lodge . Promise of work for the new occupant of the chair of K . S . was given in the proposition of three good candidates for initiation , and two joining members were also proposed . A letter of condolence with the family of the late Bro . Gaydon , sen ., and of sympathy with Bro . Austin Venn , who had been seriously ill , were directed to be sent in the name of the lodge . After the visitors had given "Hearty good wishes , " lodge was closed .
The banquet was served at the Kingston Hotel , the ordinary meeting place of the Dobie Lodge , and close on 60 partook of it . More were expected , but several were prevented at the last moment from coming , and sent apologies , among them being Bro . Tyler , Piov . G . Sec , who is always a welcome visitor . Bro . Monday catered admirably , and Mrs . Monday won great praise for the very charming floral decorations of the tables . In front of the Master lay the letters W . M . worked in lilies of the valley , violets , and other small flowers of appropriate hues , resting in glass slips .
Bro . Wells presided over the banquet most acceptably , and all who spoke followed his example as to brevity . Thus there was ample time for music , to which Bros . Mortimer , J . W . ; Lewis , J . D . ; and Graham , P . P . G . Org . Surrey and Middlesex contributed vocally . Bro . Abbott acted as accompanyist . Bro . Typke amused with the gramaphone , and thus the entertainment was sustained until 11 o'clock , when the closing toast was given .
During the evening Bro . Long , who is now qualifying as Vice-Patron for the Girls ' School , being in a like position to the other two Institutions , made an earnest appeal to the brethren in behalf of the W . M . ' s list for the approaching festival ofthe Girls' School . He spoke ofthe great distinction achieved by Miss Bertha Dean , in whose admission to the Institution the Doric Lodge assisted with votes , on the request of the late Bro . J . A . K .
Campbell , who knew the family by residence at Chichester . Bro . Long declared that he felt quite proud when he heard of what this protege of the Iodge had done ( particulars of which were read out at the previous meeting by Bro . W . Drewett , Sec ) , and urged his brethren to help support the School where Miss Dean had been so well trained . The result of the appeal was sho-. vn by the entries on the list , and the contents of the Charity box were also added to it .
The I . P . M . also thanked the brethren for their assistance when he went up as Steward for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution last month . His list was the best in amount for the province , over £ 91 ; and Bro . Wells had passed that figure for the Girls .
Kennington Lodge , No . 1381 . The last meeting of the season of this lodge was held at the Horns Tavern , Kennington Park , on the f . h inst . Among those present were Bros . T . Davies , VV . Dennis ' s application to be placed on the non-dining list of the lodge was sanctioned . Communications regretting inability to attend were received and read . The lodge was then closed . A banquet followed .
Bro . George Everett , P . G . Treas ., responded in happy and pertinent terms on behalf of " The Grand Officers . " The I . P . M . gave " The Health of the VV . M . " in words of justly deserved compliment . He said that the VV . M . could not only perform the work of the lodge wall , but he could likewise ably preside at the dinner table . He was also to be congratulated on the success that had attended his efforts as a Steward to the recent successful Festival of the R . M . B . I . In conclusion , he trusted that on th ' e resumption of Masonic work in No . 13 S 1 , in October next , the VV . M . would be in as good health and spirits as he was at the present time .
The VV . M ., in reply , thanked the I . P . M . for his flattering remarks . He said that what he promised on his election night he hoped loyally to fulfil . He had introduced music in the lodge ceremonies , which he hoped had j ^ iven satisfaction . It was a great fea ' ure in many lodges , and justly so . He hoped that at the next session of the lodge the members , by introducing friends , would give him plenty ot work to do . He had to thank the Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary for their kind assistance and advice . In conclusion , he trusted at the end of his year of office to earn the kindly commendation of the brethren for the manner in which hc had carried out the duties of his position to the best of his humble skill and ability .
Other toasts f jllowed , and a most agreeable evening was spent , thanks to the efforts vocallyof Bros . Linwood , Tom Davis , A . Lundie , R . Bray , and others .

Bro . Gaze , W . M ., presided over the first part of the business , and as nothing beyond balloting for a joining member and consideration of the Auditors' report had to be done , the ceremony of installation was soon commenced . as his duly elected successor , and with tiros . Chapman and Hayward , P . M . 83 / , in the Wardens' chairs , and Bro . G . R . Scott , I . P . M ., as D . C , Bro .
