2 G 7 STEWARDS—LONDON £ 9912 * 6 216 STEWARDS -PROVINCES , SIC 3 , 379 7 o 4 S 3 STEWARDS—GRAND TOTAL £ 18 , 291 8 6 The Earl of DARTMOUTH , Prov . G . M . of Staffordshire , then rose and said he had been somewhat unexpectedly called upon to submit to the brethren ' s notice a toast , and while he fully recognised the privilege he aUo recognised the great responsibility that devolved upon him , because he had

to put into appropriate words what they all felt , which was a deep sense of gratitude to their Chairman for his presence and the admirable manner in which he had peiformed his dut ' e * . After the remarks which had already fallen from Lord Llangattock he ( the Earl of Dartmouth ) could only make one suggestion that the Chairman should pay another visit to Croydon , accompanied by Bro . Terry , who seemed to have a controlling influence upon him , and see those dear old ladies who seemed to have

made so great an impression upon him , and tell them of the great success his presidency had achieved . Although there might be a good many of those outside Masonry who looked upon Freemasons , not unjustly , as a sociable , convivial lot of people , who liked to meet together in tne friendly manner in which they had met that evening to enjoy the good things of this life , they who were within the body knew that there was a ereat deal more

than that , and being Freemasons , the conditions on which they built were the principles that were taught them in their respective lodges ; and on those foundations of Christian Charity , brotherly love , and mutual assistance , they endeavoured to erect a certain edifice that woaldprove to the world that thu great Brotherhood followed—though it might be a mysterj —a moving , active , and sentient course , and was pledged to do the best it could for the benefit
