M . was unanimously nominated for

the office of Grand Steward , and the Secretary instructed to inform the Prov . G . Secretary of the nomination . Letters of apology for non-attendance ' were read from several G . Officers and brethren , including Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., who is slowly recovering from a feverish attack , having been confined to his bed for some days . Lodge vvas closed , and the brethren enjoyed an excellent

dinner under the genial presidency of the W . M ., who afterwards gave the usual toasts . In proposing "The Grand Officers , " the Worshipful Master said they vvere favoured on the present occasion with the presence of two members of Grand Lodge . There were no two Grand Officers whom he vvould rather see than

Bros . T . Poore and Vincent , for it was his good fortune to be advanced by Bro . Poore , and Bro . Vincent was a good worker in the Degree , being the Preceptor of the Grand Masters' Lodge of Instruction . Any brother who wished to make himself proficient could not do better than attend there and he would receive excellent instruction from Bro . Vincent .

Bro . T . Poore , P . G . l . G ., returned thanks , and said that nothing he could possibly say vvould in the slightest degree enhance the good qualities of the Grand Officers more than he had a conviction of . They endeavoured to do their duty , and as long as they had such Grand Officers the Degree would succeed . He vvas quite sure the W . M . had never regretted being a M . M ., and he congratulated the lodge on having such a VV . M . If the officers and brethren supported the W . M . the lodge would occupy a leading position in the

province . Bro . W . Vincent , P . G . l . G ., also replied , and expressed his regret that other Grand Officers vvere not present to hear the ceremony performed by the officers of the lodge . That the W . M . would do his duty he vvas quite sure , for he had attended the lodge of instruction and had been one of the most regular , not only this session but in previous .

, years Therefore , he had no doubt of his ability , but knowin ° * nothingof . the other officers , he wished to be allowed to compliment them and vvould say their lodge would hold its own with any lodge . It would be his pleasure to tell the Grand Secretary and other Grand Officers what he had seen , and he vvas quite satisfied they vvould then regret not being present .

"The Prov . G . M . and Prov . Grand Officers" was next given by the W . M ., who expressed the hope that Bro . Col . Sir Francis Burdett would speedily be restored to good health , for no P . G . M . could be regarded with feelings of greater affection than he was in that province . He was that

sorry Bro . the Rev . J . Cater , the Prov . G . C , had left , but he would tell the brethren that that reverend brother would be the first AV . M . of a new Mark lodge which would soon be applied for , and in which he had no doubt Bro . Cater would he as successful as in the Craft .

Bro . Lambert , in response , said the P . G . M . had been good enough to write and say how pleased he was that that lod ge was getting on so well . The lodge started in the first few years in a condition far too flourishing , for , like a boy who outgrew his strength , it weakened , and sunk * so low

that the thought was entertained of returning the charter . It M , however , taken a new lease of life , and was now flourishing . Taking the lodges in the province , he thought that lodge would now hold its own , the credit being due to the VV . M . more than to any other brother .

Bro . Hubbard , P . M ., proposed "The Health of the W . M ., _ to whom he attributed the success of the lodge and the addition to their numbers . Bro . Hobbs had gone through the duty of advancing five distinguished brethren , and vvas simply letter perfect in the vvork of the entire ceremony .

Bro Hugh M . Hobbs , W . M ., said that in the different othces he had held it had been his honest and earnest wish to carry them out to the best of his ability , and if he had earned out his duty that night to their satisfaction lie was well repaid . In Masonry he was an attractive person , for tie had always attracted many good men into the lodges or chapters with which he was associated . He should continue ... - ¦ - u . kv . u . nv-Jiiuuiu ¦" -CULlIlUt ; nis

^ efforts in the good cause of thit lodge , not only while he Ws in the chair , but also when he ceased to be the VV . M It was seldom that a VV . M . was supported by such able ollicers—several occupying or had passed the chair in Craft 'Mges , and others had taken steps towards the chair . There was every prospect of success in the future , and his successor vvould find a satisfactory balance in the Treasurer ' s nanus .

The W . M ., in introducing the toast of " The Advancees , " Mid it was seldom an occupant of the chair had the honour ot advancing such a distinguished brother as Bro . Fredk . 23 ' , , ° y * . G-M- , cha / gfe of Surrey , who , last year , appointed him to the chief offices in the Prov . G . Lod- * -e w H ^ P * - * of Surrey . Bro Frederick AVest , on behalf of himself and the other waidates , said they were much obliged not only for the , way ' » "'hich that toast had been proposed , but also « r the most excellent manner in which the VV . to be associated with any lodge over which the W . M . presided , and it gave him the greatest pleasure to be advanced by him . If every Degree vvas performed as perfectly as it had been on that occasion , many more would be attracted to those Degrees , outside the Three Degrees , with which onc was more familiar . He would do his best to allot to the Degree a portion of the small amount of time at his disposal for Masonic matters , and if it should ever fall to his

lot to perform the ceremony with a tenth part of the perfection attained by the W . M ., he should be heartily gratified . Bro . Lee , 400 , responded for " The Visitors , " and "The Officers" having been given , the Tyler ' s toast brought an enjoyable meeting to a close . Bro . Rhodes , P . P . G . O ., presided at the pianoforte in a brilliant manner , and several brethren rendered some excellent songs .

M . was supported by such able ollicers—several occupying or had passed the chair in Craft 'Mges , and others had taken steps towards the chair .

Fredk . 23 ' , , ° y * . to be associated with any lodge over which the W . M . presided , and it gave him the greatest pleasure to be advanced by him .
