Rowling , of the White Lion Hotel . The W . M ., Bro . E . Symonds , presided , and was supported on the right by Bro . Napier , the Installing Master , and on the left by Bro . H . VV . Cullum , I . P . M ., the vice-chair being occupied by Bro . VV . T . Phillips , S . W .

The Worshipful Master ] proposed "The Queen , " remarking that there never was a time when the peop le of England were more loyal or more devoted to the Sovereign than they were at the present moment . The Worshipful Master next proposed "The Grand Master of England , H . R . H . the Prince of VVales . " Most of them , he said , had the privilege of seeing his Royal Highness at Norwich , on the occasion of the visit of the

Royal Agricultural Show to that city , and they saw how hard he worked to make the meeting a success . He took an equal interest in Freemasonry , and had more than justified the selection made by the Craft in appointing him to the high office of Grand Master . The Worshipful Master also proposed " The Pro Grand Master , Lord Carnarvon , the Deputy Grand Master , and the Grand Officers , Present and Past . "

The Worshipful Master said the next toast was one that came home to the members of that lodge , it was " The Provincial Grand Master of Suffolk elect , Lord Henniker . " It was a very great compliment to that lodge that one of its members should be chosen to fill the important office of Grand Master of the province . He hoped by their large attendance at the installation on Friday they would show that they appreciated the honour . He was sure that Lord

Henniker would carry out the duties of the office to the satisfaction of all the brethren , and he hoped that he might live for many years to preside over the province . The toast was received with full Masonic honours . The Worshipful Master then gave " The Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Suffolk , Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn , " wnom he described as one of the very best Masons he ever met .

The Worshipful Master proposed "The Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge , Past and Present . " He was sure they all regretted the absence of their worthy Secretary , Bro . Woolnough , and that they would join with him in the expression of the hope that he might be speedily restored to health . There were , however , two Past Prov . Grand Officers ( Bros . Barnes and Napier ) present , and he coupled their names with the toast .

Bros . Barnes and Napier briefly responded . The Worshipful Master , in proposing "The Charities , " said the Haslemere Lodge was situate in the middle of an agricultural district , which was not so flourishing as some of the large towns , but nevertheless they subscribed as much as they could afford , and they had no reason to be ashamed of their contributions . He coupled with the toast the names of Bro . Tracy , P . G . Secretary , whose absence

they all deplored , and Bro . H . Gedny , Bro . Gedny , in response , having remarked that the Hartismere Lodge had done its quota towards the support of the Masonic Charities , said the Masonic Schools were grand institutions , and he believed they had been of immense benefit to the country at large . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Visiting Brethren , " to which Bros . Rice , Flatman , and Atkinson

responded . Bro . W . T . Phillips , S . W ., proposed "The Health of the VV . M ., Bro . Symonds . " During the past six years , Bro . Symonds had been working his way up in the lodge , and he ( Bro . Phillips ) was confident that he would carry out the duties devolving upon the VV . M . in a manner which

would reflect credit upon himself and upon the lodge . As a Mason , and a neighbour , and a friend , they had all known and admired him for a great many years . Bro . Symonds , in response , said he hoped his term of office would be a successful one , so far as the lodge was concerned , and he was sure it would be a happy

one . The W . M . proposed "The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . Napier . " Bro . Napier , in response , said it had been a very great pleasure to him to install Bro . Symonds in the chair he now so worthily filled . The VV . M . proposed "The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . Cullum . " Bro . Cullum , in response , expressed his gratitude to the

officers of the lodge for tbe way in which they bad supported him during his year of office ; and made special reference to the assistance which he had received from Bro . Woolnough . The VV . M . proposed "The Oflicers of the Lodge , " coupled with the names of Bros . Phillips and C H . Scriven , who briefly responded . The concluding toasts were " The Ladies , " proposed by the VV . M ., and responded to by Bro . Alex . Wills ; and the Tyler ' s toast .

SHOREHAM . —Burrell Lodge ( No . 1829 ) . — The annual installation meeting of this lodge was held , under the presidency of Bro . H . Cheal , VV . M ., at the Royal George Ilotel , on Thursday , the 7 th inst ., when Bro . A . Brazier was installed as W . M . of the lodge for the ensuing year . Immediately after , the VV . M . proceeded to appoint and invest his ollicers as follows : Bros . H . Cheal , l . P . M . ; R . U . Y . Powell , S . W . ; VV . Swales , J . W . ; T .

services he had rendered to the lodge during the past year . The business of the lodge being ended , the brethren sat down to an excellent banquet , provided by Bro . T . B . Colbran , when the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . There was a good attendance of members and visitors at the lodge and banquet .

The lodge having been opened in due form , the minutes of the previous lodge meeting were read and confirmed , after which Bros . Itter and White were raised to the Degree of Master Masons . There being no further business for transaction , the lodge was formally closed , and the brethren

adjourned to dinner . After dessert the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . T . I . Bird , P . P . G . Swd . Br . Middx ., replied on behalf of " The Prov . Grand Officers , " and after returning thanks for the cordiality with which the toast had been received , assured the brethren that he would , in conjunction with the other Provincial Grand Lodge Officers , exert

himself to promote the welfare of the Province of Middlesex . Bro . E . Woodman , VV . M ., returned thanks for the kind terms in which Bro . Mayes , P . M ., had proposed the toast of " The W . M ., " and for the hearty reception accorded it by the brethren . Since his first connection with the lodge , he had taken a great interest in its progress , and hoped to continue to do so for many years to come . He asked the

members to accept his sincere thanks for the support they had given him , and which he trusted would be continued during the remainder of his term of office . Bro . H . Oldham , W . M . 1365 , responded on behalf of " The Visitors , " heartily commending the work he had witnessed in the lodge , and acknowledging the profuse hospitality with which the visiting brethren had been received at the banquet table .

Bro . Mayes , P . M ., replied for "The Past Masters , " and said that the W . M . could rely upon the support of all the P . M . ' s during his year of office , for it was their earnest desire to see the lodge continue the progress it had made sinceits formation . He also expressed regret at the absence , through indisposition , of Bro . Lee , P . M . Bro . J . Osborn , P . M ., Sec , having returned thanks for "The Treasurer and Secretary , " and "The Officers " having been duly honoured , the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a close .

CARDIFF . —Tennant Lodge ( No . 1992 ) . —The annual festival of this lodge took place on Thursday , the 14 th inst ., at the Royal Hotel . The chief event was the installation of Bro . David Williams , as VV . M . of the lodge . There were present Bros . Marmaduke Tennant , the Deputy Prov . Grand Master of the Eastern Division of South VVales ; Homfray , Deputy Prov . Grand Master for

Monmouthshire ; and the Worshipful Masters of the Glamorgan , Bute , Windsor , Penarth , St . Quintin's Cowbridge , and Bridgend lodges . There was also a large number of visiting brethren present . The installation ceremony was performed by Bro . Henry White , I . P . M ., after which the VV . M . invested his officers ,

STOCKTON . —Whitwell Lodge ( No . 2104 ) . — The second annual festival of this lodge was held in the Masonic Hall on Wednesday , the 6 th inst . Bro . John Burr was duly installed VV . M . proposed a vote of thanks , to be recorded on the minutes , to Bro . Johnstone for his kindness in providing such a suitable lodge room , and the many presents he had made to the lodge—seconded

by Bro . H . Tyrer , S . D ., and carried unanimously . Bro . Newsom , S . W ., in an appropriate speech , thanked Bro . Johnstone on behalf of the lodge . In returning thanks , Bro . Johnstone said , anything he could do to further the interests of the Cray ' s Valley Lodge he should be only too pleased to do , as he took a deep

interest in it . Two gentlemen were then proposed for initiation , and after the brethren had given " Hearty good wishes " to the W . M ., the lodge was closed . The brethren then sat down to a substantial banquet . " The Queen and the Craft " was the first toast . " The

M . W . G . M ., H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , and the rest of the Grand Officers , " " The Prov . G . M ., Earl Amherst , " " The Dep . Prov . G . M ., J . S . Eastes , and the rest of the Prov . G . Officers , " having been duly honoured , Bro . Knight proposed "The Health of the W . M ., " which was drunk with musical honours . " The Visitors " and "Officers" were next honoured ,

which ware responded to . The Tyler ' s toast then closed a very successful and pleasant meeting .

TEMPERANCE-IN -THE . EAST LODGE ( No . 8 9 8 ) . —The brethren of thc above old lodge have now settled down at Bro . VV . jeves' hostelry , the Greenwich Pensioner , Bow-lane , Poplar , where thc worthy host has not spared any pains to make the room suitable for lodge purposes . His endeavours are evidently appreci . ated , for good attendances take place each Wednesday , and , on our attending last Wednesday , we were glad to sec so well appointed a lodge well supported by so many of the principal members of the narcnt lodce . We learn that Bro . F . Pulsford , P . M . 898 , haskindly

con iented to act as Preceptor , Bro . George Graveley , P . M . 898 , has been unanimously elected Treasurer , and in a young and energetic brother—thc D . C . of the mother lodge ( Bro . A . S . Duck)—the brethren have secured an able and painstaking Secretary . There were present Bros . J . F . Richardson , as VV . M . ; Boyd , S . W . ; Burgess , J , VV . ; Pulsford , P . The ceremonies of initiation and passing were y rehearsed , Bros . Williams and Dixon acting as the respective candidates . Bro . Boyd was elected W . M . for the next meeting , and Bros . Hammond , Ringrose , and Burgess were duly appointed to " andit the lodge accounts . Bro . W . Jeves , whose great services to the lodge are fully appreciated , was unanimously elected an honorary member , and suitably returned thanks for this mark of esteem . Bro . S . G . Bonner , 1382 , and Hon . Sec . Corinthian Lodge of Instruction , announced the working of the Corinthian Lodge on

Tucsdaj evenings , and invited all brethren who could attend to do 50 . liro , Bonner expressed thc desire of the brethren of 1382 . to maintain the closest ties of brotherly lore with thc members of the sister Lodge S 98 , and offered any brethren who might desire to work any particular office , that if they would atlend 1382 the opportunity of doing so would be cheerfully afforded . Bro . Pulsford , P . M ., endorsed the remarks of Bro . Bonner , and recommended the working of the Corinthian Lodge , as it was similar to their own style of working . Other matters comfortably disposed of , lodge was closed in harmony and adjourned .

ROYAL COMMEMORATION LODGE ( No . 1585 ) . —A meeting was held at the Railway Hotel , Putney , on Monday , the 18 th inst . Present : Bros . Sapsworth , VV . M . ; Featherstone , S . W . ; Langlev , J . W . ; Taylor , P . M ., Preceptor ; Gompertz , S . D . ; Bond , J . ' lJ . ; Grundy , Sec . ; Grant , I . G . ; Williams , P . M . ; Carter , P . M . ; Webb , P . M . ; Collick , Custance , Dare , Harling , and Spooner .

The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed . The ceremony of raising was rehearsed , Bro . Harling being the candidate . Thc Auditors' report was taken and passed , and a copy of the accounts ordered to be entered in the minute book , Hro . Featherstone was elected W . M . for next meeting . Bro . Taylor , P . M ., Preceptor , stated his intention to instal him according to antient custom , and the lodge was closed .

The Worshipful Master ] proposed "The Queen , " remarking that there never was a time when the peop le of England were more loyal or more devoted to the Sovereign than they were at the present moment . The Worshipful Master next proposed "The Grand Master of England , H . R . H . the Prince of VVales . " Most of them , he said , had the privilege of seeing his Royal Highness at Norwich , on the occasion of the visit of the

Royal Agricultural Show to that city , and they saw how hard he worked to make the meeting a success . He took an equal interest in Freemasonry , and had more than justified the selection made by the Craft in appointing him to the high office of Grand Master . The Worshipful Master also proposed " The Pro Grand Master , Lord Carnarvon , the Deputy Grand Master , and the Grand Officers , Present and Past . "

The Worshipful Master said the next toast was one that came home to the members of that lodge , it was " The Provincial Grand Master of Suffolk elect , Lord Henniker . " It was a very great compliment to that lodge that one of its members should be chosen to fill the important office of Grand Master of the province . He hoped by their large attendance at the installation on Friday they would show that they appreciated the honour . He was sure that Lord

Henniker would carry out the duties of the office to the satisfaction of all the brethren , and he hoped that he might live for many years to preside over the province . The toast was received with full Masonic honours . The Worshipful Master then gave " The Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Suffolk , Bro . the Rev . C . J . Martyn , " wnom he described as one of the very best Masons he ever met .

The Worshipful Master proposed "The Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge , Past and Present . " He was sure they all regretted the absence of their worthy Secretary , Bro . Woolnough , and that they would join with him in the expression of the hope that he might be speedily restored to health . There were , however , two Past Prov . Grand Officers ( Bros . Barnes and Napier ) present , and he coupled their names with the toast .

Bros . Barnes and Napier briefly responded . The Worshipful Master , in proposing "The Charities , " said the Haslemere Lodge was situate in the middle of an agricultural district , which was not so flourishing as some of the large towns , but nevertheless they subscribed as much as they could afford , and they had no reason to be ashamed of their contributions . He coupled with the toast the names of Bro . Tracy , P . G . Secretary , whose absence

they all deplored , and Bro . H . Gedny , Bro . Gedny , in response , having remarked that the Hartismere Lodge had done its quota towards the support of the Masonic Charities , said the Masonic Schools were grand institutions , and he believed they had been of immense benefit to the country at large . The Worshipful Master proposed " The Visiting Brethren , " to which Bros . Rice , Flatman , and Atkinson

responded . Bro . W . T . Phillips , S . W ., proposed "The Health of the VV . M ., Bro . Symonds . " During the past six years , Bro . Symonds had been working his way up in the lodge , and he ( Bro . Phillips ) was confident that he would carry out the duties devolving upon the VV . M . in a manner which

would reflect credit upon himself and upon the lodge . As a Mason , and a neighbour , and a friend , they had all known and admired him for a great many years . Bro . Symonds , in response , said he hoped his term of office would be a successful one , so far as the lodge was concerned , and he was sure it would be a happy

one . The W . M . proposed "The Health of the Installing Master , Bro . Napier . " Bro . Napier , in response , said it had been a very great pleasure to him to install Bro . Symonds in the chair he now so worthily filled . The VV . M . proposed "The Health of the I . P . M ., Bro . Cullum . " Bro . Cullum , in response , expressed his gratitude to the

officers of the lodge for tbe way in which they bad supported him during his year of office ; and made special reference to the assistance which he had received from Bro . Woolnough . The VV . M . proposed "The Oflicers of the Lodge , " coupled with the names of Bros . Phillips and C H . Scriven , who briefly responded . The concluding toasts were " The Ladies , " proposed by the VV . M ., and responded to by Bro . Alex . Wills ; and the Tyler ' s toast .

members to accept his sincere thanks for the support they had given him , and which he trusted would be continued during the remainder of his term of office . Bro . H . Oldham , W . M . 1365 , responded on behalf of " The Visitors , " heartily commending the work he had witnessed in the lodge , and acknowledging the profuse hospitality with which the visiting brethren had been received at the banquet table .

Bro . Mayes , P . M ., replied for "The Past Masters , " and said that the W . M . could rely upon the support of all the P . M . ' s during his year of office , for it was their earnest desire to see the lodge continue the progress it had made sinceits formation . Tucsdaj evenings , and invited all brethren who could attend to do 50 . liro , Bonner expressed thc desire of the brethren of 1382 . to maintain the closest ties of brotherly lore with thc members of the sister Lodge S 98 , and offered any brethren who might desire to work any particular office , that if they would atlend 1382 the opportunity of doing so would be cheerfully afforded . Bro . Pulsford , P . M ., endorsed the remarks of Bro . Bonner , and recommended the working of the Corinthian Lodge , as it was similar to their own style of working . Other matters comfortably disposed of , lodge was closed in harmony and adjourned .
