CONSECRATION OF THE ELECTRIC LODGE , No . 2087 .

On Thursday , the 7 th inst ., at the Mitre Hotel , Hampton C ourt , another lodge was added to the roll of Grand Lodge of England , the members of which will mainly be drawn from the electrical profession . There was a fair muster of brethren . Among those present " who signed the attendance book

M ., Sir Francis Burdett , Bart ., who appointed Bro . Raymond Thrupp , D . P . G . M ., as S . W . ; Bro . C . Graham , P . M . 2034 , P . P . G . Stwd ., J . W . ; V . W . Bro . Col . Shadwell H . Clerke , as acting Chaplain ; and Bro . J . Ramsey , P . P . G . S . VV ., D . C . The consecration ceremony was ably performed

by the R . W . P . G . M ., who , in his address to the brethren , reminded them that lodges as now constituted should consist of the best and most worthy men , who would be of value to the lodge and the Order . This particular lodge will be supported by a certain class , consisting of members of Telegraph and Electric Associations in London , who will assemble here and carry out their Masonic duty . He was gratified that a brother who had had

such experience in the working of the ceremonies had been chosen as W . M . elect . It would be a matter of consideration with him to advance brethren in his province by merit , and he promised to visit this lodge and judge for himself as to the progress made by the officers . Bro . Raymond Thrupp , D . P . G . M ., afterwards performed the ceremony of installation , and the newly-installed W . M ., Bro . E . B . Bright , P . M .,

Three gentlemen were proposed for initiation , and 21 members joined . A committee was formed to draw up bye-laws , and , after " Hearty good wishes , " the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . After a banquet , admirably managed and served by Bro . Sadler , the host , The WORSHIPFUL MASTER gave the toast of " The Queen , " saying as it was only in the existence of a lodge that it was consecrated , it was especially the occasion when the feelings of those assembled should be right royally expressed .

The '/ toast of " H . R . H . the Grand Master , the Pro Grand Master , the Earl of Carnarvon ; the Deputy Grand Master , the Earl of Lathom ; and the other Grand Officers , Present and Past , " coupled with the name of the Grand Secretar }' , followed . The GRAND SECRETARY , in returning thanks , said that it was an honour at all times to return thanks for so important a toast as that of the Grand Officers of England , when noblemen and gentlemen of so high standing

were their chiels , particularly the Earl of Carnarvon and Lord Lathom . They could not fail of having the love and esteem of the whole Craft . He had the honour of being present when H . R . H . the Grand Master initiated his son , and he could safely say the Grand Master was as hard working and practical a Mason as any one present . The Grand Officers were always sensible of the honour done them . It was not the first time he had taken part " m ceremonies in Middlesex under the popular P . G . M ., and would always be willing to do so .

The WORSHIPFUL MASTER , in proposing the toast of "The R . W . P . G . M ., " said how pleased all were to see him present . When asked for his permission to domicile the Electric in that part of his province , Sir Francis said that so many of the London brethren were gravitating to this small hamlet

, he was almost inclined to think it would be overstocked with lodges , but as he had allowed them to take a footing he hoped it would continue for many years . It was a pleasure to be presided over by so excellent and genial a Mason as the P . G . M ., who was always ready to assist , and in fact was considered one of the pillars of the present age .

The toast was received with every mark of satisfaction and good Electric fire .

The PROV . GRAND MASTER , in reply , thanked the W . M . for the way he had put the toast , and was glad that 2087 had come to the province , and he was sure Middlesex and Hampton Court were pleased to receive them , and they would find that Bro . Sadler would accommodate them at the Mitre , which he might say was as good a house as any in the three counties . He thought there was every prospect of the lodge taking a high position , ° ut although he was necessarily away a considerable portion of the year ,

yet his excellent Deputy kept him well informed , as he was present at almost all the meetings in the province , keeping a watchful eye ; in fact , he ke pt him as well informed as a General in command of an Army , and he was able to bestow the provincial honours from , he might say , an actual Knowled ge of merit displayed by those who were the recipients ; and he was certain to see this lodge prosperous , and hoped it would continue so long after he had gone to his long and everlasting home . ( Applause . )

Ihe PROV . GRAND MASTER " then said it was his privilege to take the gavel whenever he thought fit in his own province , but did not want to do so on any but pleasant occasions , as this was , when he had the pleasure to Propose "The Health of the W . M . " He was quite sure no difficulty would that

*» se the W . M ., Bro . Bright , would not be able to put right from the J > . at experience he had gained in Masonry—his knowledge of the Constitution , and the laws of the Order . The W . M . of a lodge ought to have a thp u moral P owei" and weight , and so carry out the duties of the chair to ^ benefit of the lodge and welfare of the brethren in general .

Consecration Of The Electric Lodge, No. 2087.

Bro . THRUI > I > , D . P . G . M ., replied shortly , saying how pleased the Provincial Grand Officers had been to assist the Electric Lodge that evening . " The Visitors " followed . The VV . M . would be glad to extend the hospitality of the Electric Lodge to all from N ., S ., W ., and E ., and coupled with the toast the names of Bro . Barker from the North , and Bro . Glover from the South .

Bro . BARKER felt honoured in being called upon to reply . He was twice W . M . of No . 24 , and had held offices in the Higher Degrees , and , as a Mason of 40 years' standing , found he could not attend to the duties as formerly , but was certain of this , that no one should take an office in a lodge unless he was determined to perform the duties , and from the lowest to the highest , and so rise to merit by good work .

Bro . GLOVER said he was frequently called upon to reply for visitors , and did not feel it necessary to add to what Bro . Barker had said , excepting that he considered it a great treat to have heard the Prov . Grand Master's excellent working , and concluded b y thanking them for their kind hospitality .

"The Officers of the Lodge" followed , replied to by Bro . PREECE , the S . W ., who said he felt like the electric eel , inclined to slip away from replying to the toast ; but if assiduity , zeal , and good attendance could by example make good officers , then his brother officers should have it in him , as if you train up a child in the way it should go it would not depart from it ; and he could only ask the W . M . to train up his officers , and they would do their utmost to follow . The Tyler ' s toast followed .

Consecration Of The Castlebergh Lodge, No. 2091, At Settle.

CONSECRATION OF THE CASTLEBERGH LODGE , No . 2091 , AT SETTLE .

On Monday , the 16 th inst ., R . W . Bro . T . W . Tew , Provincial Grand Master West Yorkshire , performed the ceremony of consecrating Castlebergh Lodge , No . 2091 , at Settle , on the roll of the Grand Lodge . Excellent rooms have been secured at the Ashfield Hotel , and have undergone the necessary embellishments to meet the requirements of Masonry . Some 70 brethren , including most of the Provincial Grand Officers , were present at the ceremonial . This was the first lodge consecrated by Bro . Tew in his capacity of Provincial Grand Master .

The Provincial Grand Lodge entered at one o'clock , and ' the consecration and dedication took place with the accustomed ceremonies . The Provincial Grand Master delivered a lengthy and elaborate address . After the consecration ceremony Grand Lodge was closed . The following officers of the lodge were then installed : Bros . John Throup , W . M . ; Thos . Procter , S . W . j and Thomas Brayshaw , J . W .

A cold collation was afterwards served , to which about 60 brethren sat down .

opened and the brethren confirmed the recommendations of the last meeting of the Board to the amount of £ 590 . There were 31 cases on the new list , a smaller number than has been the case for a long time . Two of the cases were dismissed and one was deferred . The remainder were relieved with a total sum of £ 620 . This was composed of two sums of £ 50 each ; three of £ 40 each ; four of £ 30 each ; eleven of £ 20 each ; five of £ 10 each ; and two of £ 5 each . The Board was then closed .
