To this His Majesty was pleased to make the following gracious reply : I am specially pleased to have been able to receive in person the loyal ' address of sympathy and of dutiful and fraternal congratulation and goodwill esented j 0 me by so distinguished and representative a deputation of Ancient , Free and Accepted Members of England . I have felt much regret at relinquishing the high and honourable post of Grand Master , which f have interest
held since 1874 , but I shall not cease to retain the same deep that I have always felt in Freemasonry , and as Protector of English Freemasons I shall continue to watch over your interests and to rejoice over the prosperity and growth which I anticipate for you in the future . It is a great satisfaction to me that my brother , the Duke of Connaught , has assumed the post of Grand Master in succession to me , and that your interests are in the hands of one so near to me in blood and united in sympathy with the Fraternity .

Knight ' s services met with such a ready and liberal response that a sufficient sum was raised for the purchase not only of a handsome timepiece for Bro . Knight , but alsq of a gold watch for Mrs . Ihe sixth annual banquet and musical evening was held at the Tower Bridge Hotel , Tooley-street , on the 5 th instant , and , like its predecessors , proved a great success . Bro . A . Burgin , W . M ,, and Mrs . Burgin held a reception at six o'clock . 1 p ' 'he reception the company adjourned to the dining hall , where an excellent banquet was served under the personal supervision of Bro . Brown . The toast of " The King" was given by the W . M ., also that of " The Ladies . " Bro . TOM BKST , P . M ., Sec , responded for the ladies in a most eloquent manner . ¦ « , ? the Imperial \ eomanry in South Africa . He had likewise taken deep interest in the working of the lodge of instruction—a valuable adjunct to a regular lodge . The proposal to acknowledge Bro . Knight ' s services met with such a ready and liberal response that a sufficient sum was raised for the purchase not only of a handsome timepiece for Bro . Knight , but alsq of a gold watch for Mrs . Knight , who during the two years her husband presided over the lod ge assisted in promoting the success of several social functions . The clock and watcn were handed bv ths VV VI
to Bro . Knight , who made a leeling reply , expressing the very hearty thanks of h's wire and himself for the hand-ome gifts the brethren had made . Bro . Knight m ^ ntion-d that when he was initiated 11 years ago tne membership was 50 , out it had since increased to a material extent . Notwithstanding deaths , removals , & c , the roll of subscribing members now contained the names of some So clerics and laymen , and the had become the
lodge strongest in the Province of Berkshire—a position which he hoped it would continue to maintain . Bros . W . G . Mount , W . H . M . was warmly thanked for the satisfactory manner in which he had carried out the arrangements in connection with the testimonial .
