Director of Ceremonies . The deceased was in his 69 th year , and in his civic , as in his Masonic , career had distinguished himself above
most of his contemporaries in Chester . He served the office of Sheriff of Chester in 1880 , and was elected Mayor in 1 S 90 , and a few years since was placed on il , e Commission of the Peace for the City . As regards l , js Masonic achievements , with which we are more immediately concerned , we may state that he was
initiated in the Cestrian Lodge , No . 425 , in September ) 1 S 5 2 , and became W . M . in 18 72 . He was founder and first W . M . of the Sir Watkin Lodge , No . 1477 , in 1874 , and in 1 S 7 6 founded , and was installed first W . M ., the chair of which he held for two years in succession ; he has filled various offices in the
Provincial Grand Lodge of Cheshire , having been appointed Prov . G . Stwd . in 186 7 , P . S . G . D . in 1874 , and P . S . G . W . in 188 9 , as well as P . G . S . B ., and , subsequently , P . J . G . W . of North Wales and Salop ; he was exalted to the Royal Arch Degree in 18 70 , in the Zion Chapter , No . 537 , and joined the Grosvenor
Chapter , No . 721 , in 1873 , of which he became First Principal in 18 77 ; in Provincial Grand Chapter he filled the offices of Prov . G . J . in 1877 , and Prov . G . H . in 1892 , and G . Std . on the Earl of Chester Lodge being founded in 18 76 , hebecame its first W . M ., he filled the chair of Unity Lodge , No . 321 , in 1886 ; and was appointed Prov . G . Reg . in 188 7 ; and Prov . S . G . W . of North Wales and Salop in 18 7 8 ; and on the division of North Wales and Shropshire , was elected P . G . Treas . at the first
meeting at Wrexham , in 1886 , by a large majority , and last year he was appointed Dep . G . M . for the Province of Chester ; in 18 7 8 he was appointed to office in Grand Mark Lodge , that of I . G . Bro . Salmon has served eight Stewardships for the Institutions , and was Chairman of the Fund of
Benevolence in his province . In recognitian of his services and to show how his elevation to the rank of Grand Officer was appreciated by his brethren , we beg to add that last year he was presented by them with a complete suit of Grand Lodge clothing . The funeral took place on Monday , the nth inst ., and was witnessed by
a large gathering of Freemasons , magistrates , city councillors , and prominent citizens . The body was buried at Waverton , near Chester , but the first part of the burial service was conducted in St . Mary ' s Church , Chester , by the Rev . H , Grantham . M ., in a few preliminary remarks , said that he had not taken any ceremony since he occupied the chair of the lodge 2 S years ago , but he would endeavour to
do the work in a manner satisfactory to the brethren present . The lodge having been opened in the First and Second Degrees , a candidate was examined as to his proficiency in these Degrees , after which the lodge was opened in the Third Degree , when the officiating Master performed the ceremony of raising , and delivered the charge in a most impressive manner . The officiating officers seemed to enter into the spirit of the ceremony thoroughly , and discharged
the duties of their respective offices with great credit . The lodge having been closed in the Third and Second Degrees , the I . P . M ., Bro . J . E . Hodson , rose and congratulated the officiating Masters and his officers on the way in whici the work had been done , remarking that he was sure the officers of the regular lodge and the numerous members present must have been impressed by the highly creditable manner in which theceremony had been performed . other brethren also spoke in praise of the work , after which the lodge was closed finally , between 30 and 40 brethren signing the Tyler's book . LONGTON—ETRUSCAN LODGE ( NO . 546 ) . —The lodge of instruction in connection with this lodge , held on Wednesday , the 6 th inst ., was of quite a unique character this month , in consequence of the chairs and other offices being filled by Past Masters of the lodge . The Master ' s chair was taken by Bro . J . Webberley , P . P . G . R . ( W . M . in 1 S 67 ) ; the I . P . M . ' s by Bro . J . E . Hodson ( W . M . in 1 S 94 ); the S . W . 's by Bro . B . H . Brough , P . G . S . of W .
( W . M . in 1 S 76 ); the J . W . 's by Bro . P . H . Bennion ( W . M . in 1 SS 9 ); the S . D . ' s and D . C . 's duties being oerfoimed by Bro . G . C . Kent , P . P . A . G . Sec . ( VV . M . in 1 SS 5 ); the J . D . 's by Bro . D . Chapman ( W . M . in 1 SS 4 ) ; and the I . G . 'sby Bro . A . S . Walters . The officiating W . M ., in a few preliminary remarks , said that he had not taken any ceremony since he occupied the chair of the lodge 2 S years ago , but he would endeavour to
do the work in a manner satisfactory to the brethren present . The lodge having been opened in the First and Second Degrees , a candidate was examined as to his proficiency in these Degrees , after which the lodge was opened in the Third Degree , when the officiating Master performed the ceremony of raising , and delivered the charge in a most impressive manner . The officiating officers seemed to enter into the spirit of the ceremony thoroughly , and discharged
the duties of their respective offices with great credit . The lodge having been closed in the Third and Second Degrees , the I . P . M ., Bro . J . E . Hodson , rose and congratulated the officiating Masters and his officers on the way in whici the work had been done , remarking that he was sure the officers of the regular lodge and the numerous members present must have been impressed by the highly creditable manner in which theceremony had been performed . Several
other brethren also spoke in praise of the work , after which the lodge was closed finally , between 30 and 40 brethren signing the Tyler's book . MAIDSTONE . —ROBINSON LODGE ( No ?* 2046 ) . —A meeting was held on Saturday , the 16 th instant , at Freemasons' Hall , Brewer-street . Present : Bros . T . W . Neech , P . M ., W . M . ; L . W . M . rose for the first time , when Bro . Whyman proposed , and Bro . Neech , seconded that the meeting for Saturday , the 23 rd inst ., be postponed until Saurday , the
2 nd prox ., as the room will be engaged on the 23 rd inst . The W . M . rose for the secondl time , and Bro . Stansell was voted to the chair for the next meeting . Bro . Stansell returned thanks . The W . M . rose for the third time , when " Hearty good wishes " were tendered by the brethren , and the lodge was closed .
