chair , and the Worshipful Master remarked that he was honoured with a good array of Past Masters ; but , whether Past Masters or otherwise , as good men and Masons , he was delighted to give them a hearty welcome , and may they live long to honour them with their presence . He should have much pleasure in coupling the names of Bros . Roberts , P . M ., and ferry , Sec . Benevolent Institution . Bro . Roberts , in returning thanks , was perfectly sure that Bro . Croxton would add a lustre to the annals of the

Clarendon Lodge . Bro . Terry thanked the VV . M . for his intention of representing the lodge at the festival of his Institution , and also the brethren for the donation they had voted to its funds . The toast of "The Officers" was also given , and responded to in the usual hearty manner . During the evening some very excellent musical performances were given by Messrs . G . A . Harrison , J . Lovett , and Lockwood Harradine , which were thoroughly appreciated by the brethren .

HONOR OAK LODGE ( No . 1986 ) . —The regular meeting of this lodge , held at the Moore Park Hotel , Honor Oak , S . E ., on VVednesday , the 12 th inst ., was well attended . Bro . C . H . The minutes of the previous regular meeting having been confirmed , the lodge was opened in the Second Degree , and Bro . A . E . Chew proved his proficiency . Lodge opened in the Third Degree , and Bro . Chew was raised as M . M . The ceremony was admirably performed by all who took

part in it , the VV . M . acquitting himself in such excellent style as to draw forth expressions uf satisfaction from all the senior Masons who were present . In consequence of the inability of an accepted candidate for initiation to attend on this occasion the business of the evening was unexpectedly shortened . The by-laws were read and sundry matters of detail business were disposed of . Notification was made of the expected removal of the R . W .

Bro . Col . M . Ramsay , P . D . G . Master , Punjab , from the neighbourhood of the lodge , and it was unanimously resolved that in appreciation cf his valuable services to the lodge as one of its founders the distinction of honorary membership be conferred upon him . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren partook of

refreshment , lhe usual Masonic toasts were responded to , the charity box circulated , and the musical brethren , of whom there are several amongst the members of this lodge , entertained their companions and maintained harmony until the Tyler ' s toast gave note of separation after a most pleasant and enjoyable evening .

STRAND LODGE ( No . 1987 ) . —A very successful meeting of this young and flourishing lodge was held at the Criterion , Piccadilly , on VVednesday , the 12 th inst . There were present Bros . The lodge was opened in due form , and the minutes of the previous meeting read and confirmed . The three ceremonies were then successively performed in an admirable manner by Bro . James Willing , jun ., Bros . J . McDonald and j . Potter receiving the Third Degree ; Bros . R . King ,

j . Addison , and E . Ceiley the Second ; and Messrs . Joseph Wellington Cork , Lewis Auidjah , George Harcourt , and VV . Hamilton , thc First Degree . A banquet followed , served in S p iers and Pondjs best style , and presided over in Bro . Willing's usual genial and happy manner . The customary toasts were given , the visitors expressing themselves very pleased with the admirable working of the ceremonies , and much gratified with the hearty reception accorded them .

M . giving the traditional history and explanation of the tracing board . The Treasurer read letters from the Secretary of the Masonic Benevolent Institution , and it was ordered that he forward the sum of two guineas in

reply . Sundry other payments were ordered to be made . " Hearty good wishes " were given by the visiting brethren , and nothing further offering the lodge was closed in perfect harmony . his absence through illness , and a hope that he would speedily be restored , and Bro . Frazer , P . M ., was requested to convey the good wishes of the brethren to him . Bro . Copestick also proposed "The Health of the { "ast Masters , " to which Bros . Bland and Brown responded , the latter calling special attention to the lodge of instruction attached to the lodge . the Second Degree ; Messrs . H . B . May and G . C . H . Jennings being subsequently initiated into the mysteries of ancient Freemasonry , the ceremonies being pei formed by the VV . M . in his usual able manner . Bro . 13 . G . Poulton , 14 S 9 , was elected a member . After the reading of the byelaws of the lodge , the election of VV . M . for the ensuing year followed , the choice of the brethren falling upon Bro .

G . Tegg , who was heartily congratulated . A Past Master's jewel was unanimously voted to the W . M . for his efficient services as Master during the past year , Bro . Bryant , P . M ., remarking that the way Bro . Fidler had ruled the lodge had g iven great satisfaction ; no brother who had occupied the chair more deserved this jewel than their present VV . M ., who merited their warmest thanks for what he

had done for the lodge . The VV . M . having expressed his best thanks to the brethren for this unanimous mark of their esteem , the business of the evening concluded with the appointment of the Audit Committee . " Hearty good wishes " were then given , after which the lodge was closed and the brethren adjourned for refreshments . On the removal of the cloth the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , " The Healths of the VV . M .

and W . M . elect" being cordially drunk . To the toast of" The Initiates " Bros . May and Jennings responded , and expressed the pride and pleasure they felt on being received into Freemasonry . Bro . Purdey , the senior P . M ., replied for "The Past Masters ; " and Bros , the Rev . J . Lindsay and Hewlett for " The Visitors . " The toast of "The Oflicers " followed , the proceedings closing with the Tyler ' s toast .

M ., assisted by Bro . J . Crampton , P . M . The work was well done , and a decided novelty , though great improvement , was the introduction of vocal

and instrumental music , which considerably enhanced thc working of this solemn and impressive degree . The lodge was shortly afterwards closed . At the social board , Bro . C Martyne , in a capital speech , proposed "The Health of the Newly-raised Brethren , " which was heartily received , and responded to by Bros . Muller and Kennerley .

TWICKENHAM . —Sir Francis Burdett Lodge ( No . 1503 ) . —A very successful meeting of this prosperous lodge was held on the 10 th inst ., at the Albany Hotel . Among those in attendance were Bros . Bullen , and it proving to be unanimous , he was duly initiated into Craft mysteries by the W . M . Bro . VV . H . Saunders , P . M ., then presented Bro . the Rev . S . H . Saunders to the VV . M . for induction into the chair .

The VV . M . having appointed Bros . Taylor , as S . W . ; Briggs , as J . VV . ; R . Thrupp , as D . C . ; and Vialls , as I . G ., 10 assist him in the work , proceeded to carry out the ceremony . The officers appointed and invested were Bros . Briggs , S . VV . ; Richnell , J . VV . ; the Rev . L . D'Orsey , Chap . ; VV . H . Saunders , Treas . ; T . C . Walls , Sec ; Gurney , S . D . : lenkyns , l . D . ; H . lenkyns ,

M . having been presented with a jewel , a notice of motion was given to appoint a committee to consider the advisability of increasing thc subscription of the lodge . The sum of five guineas having been voied to head the list of Bro . Walls as a Steward of the R . M . B . I . Festival , 1 SS 5 , a resolution was unanimously passed " That a letter of condolence to the family of the late Bro . Clarke , P . M ., who was for many years a highly

esteemed honorary member of the lodge , be forwarded through the Deputy Prov . G . M . " VV . Bro . Wiggiston , P . M ., having resigned his Secretaryship , a resolution expressing regret and thanking him for his great services to thc lodge since its foundation was passed with acclamation and ordered to be entered on the minutes . The brethren then adjourned to the banquet . Upon thc removal of thc cloth the customary toasts followed .

PLUMSTEAD—United Military Lodge ( No . 1536 ) . —The above lodge , certainly the largest in the province of Kent , commenced its season on Friday , the 14 th inst ., at the Lord Raglan Assembly Rooms , Burrage-road . Bro . A . G . Saunders , VV . M ., presided , having come all the way from Towcester for the purpose . Among those present were Bros . H . Shaw , P . M ., P . P . G . Stvd . Br . Kent ;

balloted for and initiated , Bro . McGowan was passed , and Bro . Playle was raised . This was the first night of the W . M . 's working , and the admirable manner in which it was done was the theme of general commendation . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren partook of a pleasant little supper , nicely served by the host , Bro . H . Vallom . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were then

duly honoured . Bro . Shaw responded for " Bro . Eastes and the Prov . Grand Oflicers of Kent , Present and Past , " and said he never in his life came across a more genial and earnest body of gentlemen than the Prov . Grand Master , Deputy Grand Master , and officers of the province of Kent j one had only to go amongst them to know them , and then to respect them . When he , as a stranger , went

amongst them , he was received with the greatest cordiality , and assisted in every shape and form . He was truly grateful to Lord Holmesdale for giving him office , and would never forget with what pride he carried the sword of " state before his lordship when he ( Bro . Shaw ) held office under him . He was sorry he could not attend the lodge so often as lie would like , although lie was in heart as good a Mason as he was twenty-two years ago , and , as one of the

lodge founders , took as much interest in it as ever . He congratulated the VV . M . upon his excellent working , and cordially thanked them for the toast . Bro . Kennedy proposed "The W . M . " in glowing terms , and Bro . Saunders , in response , assured the brethren that when he began his work he felt very nervous at the prospect of having to do the Three Degrees , and if it had not been for the Past Masters he should not have done so well as he had . He thanked them for the toast , and would do all he could to be

chair , and the Worshipful Master remarked that he was honoured with a good array of Past Masters ; but , whether Past Masters or otherwise , as good men and Masons , he was delighted to give them a hearty welcome , and may they live long to honour them with their presence . He should have much pleasure in coupling the names of Bros . Roberts , P . M ., and ferry , Sec . Benevolent Institution . Bro . Roberts , in returning thanks , was perfectly sure that Bro . Croxton would add a lustre to the annals of the

Clarendon Lodge . Bro . Terry thanked the VV . M . for his intention of representing the lodge at the festival of his Institution , and also the brethren for the donation they had voted to its funds . The toast of "The Officers" was also given , and responded to in the usual hearty manner . During the evening some very excellent musical performances were given by Messrs . G . A . Harrison , J . Lovett , and Lockwood Harradine , which were thoroughly appreciated by the brethren .

Lodge opened in the Third Degree , and Bro . Chew was raised as M . M . The ceremony was admirably performed by all who took

part in it , the VV . M . acquitting himself in such excellent style as to draw forth expressions uf satisfaction from all the senior Masons who were present . In consequence of the inability of an accepted candidate for initiation to attend on this occasion the business of the evening was unexpectedly shortened . The by-laws were read and sundry matters of detail business were disposed of . Notification was made of the expected removal of the R . W .

Bro . Col . M . Ramsay , P . D . G . Master , Punjab , from the neighbourhood of the lodge , and it was unanimously resolved that in appreciation cf his valuable services to the lodge as one of its founders the distinction of honorary membership be conferred upon him . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren partook of

refreshment , lhe usual Masonic toasts were responded to , the charity box circulated , and the musical brethren , of whom there are several amongst the members of this lodge , entertained their companions and maintained harmony until the Tyler ' s toast gave note of separation after a most pleasant and enjoyable evening .

STRAND LODGE ( No . 1987 ) . —A very successful meeting of this young and flourishing lodge was held at the Criterion , Piccadilly , on VVednesday , the 12 th inst . There were present Bros . The customary toasts were given , the visitors expressing themselves very pleased with the admirable working of the ceremonies , and much gratified with the hearty reception accorded them .

The Treasurer read letters from the Secretary of the Masonic Benevolent Institution , and it was ordered that he forward the sum of two guineas in

M . in his usual able manner . Bro . 13 . G . Poulton , 14 S 9 , was elected a member . After the reading of the byelaws of the lodge , the election of VV . M . for the ensuing year followed , the choice of the brethren falling upon Bro .

G . Tegg , who was heartily congratulated . A Past Master's jewel was unanimously voted to the W . M . for his efficient services as Master during the past year , Bro . Bryant , P . M ., remarking that the way Bro . Fidler had ruled the lodge had g iven great satisfaction ; no brother who had occupied the chair more deserved this jewel than their present VV . M ., who merited their warmest thanks for what he

had done for the lodge . The VV . M . having expressed his best thanks to the brethren for this unanimous mark of their esteem , the business of the evening concluded with the appointment of the Audit Committee . " Hearty good wishes " were then given , after which the lodge was closed and the brethren adjourned for refreshments . On the removal of the cloth the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , " The Healths of the VV . M .

and W . M . elect" being cordially drunk . To the toast of" The Initiates " Bros . May and Jennings responded , and expressed the pride and pleasure they felt on being received into Freemasonry . M ., assisted by Bro . J . Crampton , P . M . The work was well done , and a decided novelty , though great improvement , was the introduction of vocal

and instrumental music , which considerably enhanced thc working of this solemn and impressive degree . The lodge was shortly afterwards closed . At the social board , Bro . C Martyne , in a capital speech , proposed "The Health of the Newly-raised Brethren , " which was heartily received , and responded to by Bros . Muller and Kennerley .

M . for induction into the chair .

The VV . M . having appointed Bros . Taylor , as S . W . ; Briggs , as J . VV . ; R . Thrupp , as D . C . ; and Vialls , as I . G ., 10 assist him in the work , proceeded to carry out the ceremony . Festival , 1 SS 5 , a resolution was unanimously passed " That a letter of condolence to the family of the late Bro . Clarke , P . M ., who was for many years a highly

esteemed honorary member of the lodge , be forwarded through the Deputy Prov . G . M . " VV . Bro . Wiggiston , P . M ., having resigned his Secretaryship , a resolution expressing regret and thanking him for his great services to thc lodge since its foundation was passed with acclamation and ordered to be entered on the minutes . The brethren then adjourned to the banquet . Upon thc removal of thc cloth the customary toasts followed .

PLUMSTEAD—United Military Lodge ( No . 1536 ) . —The above lodge , certainly the largest in the province of Kent , commenced its season on Friday , the 14 th inst ., at the Lord Raglan Assembly Rooms , Burrage-road . 's working , and the admirable manner in which it was done was the theme of general commendation . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren partook of a pleasant little supper , nicely served by the host , Bro . H . Vallom . The usual loyal and Masonic toasts were then

duly honoured . Bro . Shaw responded for " Bro . Eastes and the Prov . Grand Oflicers of Kent , Present and Past , " and said he never in his life came across a more genial and earnest body of gentlemen than the Prov . Grand Master , Deputy Grand Master , and officers of the province of Kent j one had only to go amongst them to know them , and then to respect them . When he , as a stranger , went

amongst them , he was received with the greatest cordiality , and assisted in every shape and form . He was truly grateful to Lord Holmesdale for giving him office , and would never forget with what pride he carried the sword of " state before his lordship when he ( Bro . Shaw ) held office under him . He was sorry he could not attend the lodge so often as lie would like , although lie was in heart as good a Mason as he was twenty-two years ago , and , as one of the

lodge founders , took as much interest in it as ever . He congratulated the VV . M . upon his excellent working , and cordially thanked them for the toast . Bro . Kennedy proposed "The W . M . " in glowing terms , and Bro . Saunders , in response , assured the brethren that when he began his work he felt very nervous at the prospect of having to do the Three Degrees , and if it had not been for the Past Masters he should not have done so well as he had . He thanked them for the toast , and would do all he could to be
