THE COMMITTEE of the Hospital Saturday Fund held their annual collection throughout the metropolis on Saturday last , but on account ot the numerous complaints which were made to the police the familiar street collection was abandoned . Instead they availed themselves of the offer of upwards of 1500 London tradesmen to place boxes in their shops , and the ladies who used to have stands at various points of vantage in the streets have this year gone round with subscription sheets , ft is said that so far that the collections in the workshops has been most satisfactory , and that , all things considered , there will be a more favourable return this year frome all sources than in 1 S 97 .

THE LATE BRO . SIR FRANK LOCKWOOD . —The member for the Whitby division , Mr . E . W . Beckett , on Tuesday unveiled the memorial tablet to and the portrait of the late Bro . Sir Frank Lockwood subscribed for by the members of the Reading Room at Cloughton , near Scarborough . Mr . Beckett and Mr . J . E . Ellis , M . P ., each paid tributes to the memory of Sir Frank , who , during his residence in Cloughton , did a great deal to improve and cheer the lives of the villagers .

ON WEDNESDAY , the 2 nd prox ., at 3 p . m ., the Bishopsgate Lodge , No . 2396 , will attend at St . Botolph Church , Bishopsgate , a Masonic service , at which the offertory will be given in aid of the funds of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys . Bro . the Lord Bishop of Marlborough will preach the sermon , and the Lord Mayor will attend in state . A dispensation has been obtained for the brethren to appearin Craft clothing and jewels . THE COMMITTEE of the Hospital Saturday Fund held their annual collection throughout the metropolis on Saturday last , but on account ot the numerous complaints which were made to the police the familiar street collection was abandoned . Instead they availed themselves of the offer of upwards of 1500 London tradesmen to place boxes in their shops , and the ladies who used to have stands at various points of vantage in the streets have this year gone round with subscription sheets , ft is said that so far that the collections in the workshops has been most satisfactory , and that , all things considered , there will be a more favourable return this year frome all sources than in 1 S 97 .

Shield , won again this year by Metropolitan Corps , will be handed to Bro . the Lord Mayor for retention at the Mansion [ House until the next competition . On the 26 th instant a Masonic banquet to the Grand Officers of the year , the Provincial Grand Masters , and other leading members ef the Craft , will be given in celebration of Bro . the Lord Mayor ' s promotion as Past Grand Deacon . By dispensation of the Grand Master , full dress Masonic clothingand jewels will be worn . On Tuesday , the 1 st prox .,

the Lady Mayoress will have her final afternoon reception . On the 2 nd prox . the muchdebated dinner to the Chairman and members of the London County Council will be held , and on the 4 th prox . the Lord Mayor will receive the Sirdar . On the 5 th prox . the boys and girls of the Freemen ' s Orphan School will be entertained . On the Sth prox . the Mayoralty changes hands , and , prior to ihe annual ceremonial , Bro . the Lord Mayor and the Lord Mayor elect will jointly give a dejeuner at the Mansion House .
