Prince , whom he considered to be " the Founder " of the lodge in piloting it through its first year ' s existence , and these remarks were suitably acknowledged . Bros . Reed , Treas ., and Simcox , Stwd ., announced their intention of attending as Stewards at the annual festival of the R . M . B .
Institution in February next , and , after the offering of hearty congratulations ^ by the visitors present , the ludge was duly closed , and the brethren repaired to the White Hart Hotel and partook of an excellent banquet , spending the remainder of the evening in a most enjoyable manner , enhanced by a splendid programme of music arranged and contributed to by Bro . T . W . Turner , D . C , assisted by Misses Winifred Marwood and Alice Thomas , Bro . Humphreys , and by Bro . A . W . Hall , jun ., Org ., who acted as accompanist .
The usual loyal toasts were proposed by the W . M ., that of "The M . W . G . Master and the rest of the Grand Officers " being responded to , in his usual happy and fluent style , by Bro . Martin , P . A . G . D . C , Prov . G . Sec , who after alluding to the magnificent gathering of Berks Masons at Reading the previous day , to welcome their newlyappoitited Prov . G . Master , Lord Wantage , and witness the beautiful ceremony of his installation , which was so impressively performed by the Deputy G . Master , the Earl Amherst , referred in very kind and encouraging terms to the advance already made by the lodge in the province . " "
In proposing the toastof "The Right Hon . Lord Wantage . V . C , K . C . B ., P . G . W . Eng ., R . VV . Prov . Grand Master , and the rest of the Prov . Grand Officers , Present and Past , " the W . M . referred to the honour which devolved on him in being the first W . M . in the province to propose the health of the newly-installed Prov . Grand Master . This toast was responded to by Bro . Ball , P . Prov . G . Reg ., in the excellent manner which is characteristic of him . The toast of "The Worshipful Master" was proposed by the I . P . M ., and was most heartily received . The I . P . M . spoke of the peculiar interest felt by him in Bro . Baynes ' s progress in Masonry , and the great pleasure it had given him in installing him that day .

M . responded in a hearty and feeling manner , and after thanking the brethren for the honour conferred upon him , promised to do his best to discharge the duties of his office satisfactorily . He expressed with confidence the hope that he would receive the kind and valuable support of his able body of officers during the year , and expressed also his gratification at the cordial reception given him . The toast of " The Visitors , " proposed by the W . M ., was genially responded to by Bros . S . Knight , jun ., VV . M . 574 , Prov . J . G . D . : S . E . Young , 15 G 3 ; and W . H . Bale , P . M . and Treas . S 7 .
The VV . M . then proposed the toast of "The Installing Master , Bro . E . Prince , I . P . M ., " expressing his thanks and those of the brethren for the manner in which he had conducted all the proceedings which had led up to the consecration of the lodsre and to the proud position in which it now stood , and assuring him of the great regard felt by the brethren towards him .
Bro . Pr . nce responded by saying that though he felt much diffidence in undertaking the responsible duties of W . M . and had many misgivings as to his ability to perform them satisfactorily , yet when he accepted the office he mide up his mind to do his vary best to deserve the approbation of his brother founders and the members generally . He felt more comfortable at the outset by knowing what an exceptionally strong body of officers he had to back him upon whose support and assistance he could confidently rely ;
that support had been zealously and ably given , and he wished to return his most sincere and heartfelt thanks for it . In conclusion , he thanked the lodge for the handsome Past Master ' s jewel presented to him , which he said he should always highly prize as he regarded it as a true testimony of their esteem for , and satisfaction with him , and he signified his hope that it would be handed down to posterity , provided any posterity came to his family which seemed to be doubtful .
The toast of " The Initiate " was given and suitably responded to by Bro . Kempton . The toast of " The VVorshipful Master and Brethren of the Etonian Lodge , No . 209 , and the VVorshipful Master and Brethren of the Windsor Castle , No . 771 " ( the two sister lodges in Windsor ) , was very ably proposed by the VV . AI ., who expressed the sincere thanks of his lodge for the kind assistance and sympathy given by those lodges
tothe Victoria Lodge , and the gratification which was felt at the brotherly feeling which existed between the three lodges and whirh he hoped would always continue . Bros . Sydney Smith , W . M . 209 , and A . C . Layton , W . M . 771 , both responded most heartily and with expressions of the greatest kindness , stating their assurance that their lodges were most pleased with the addition of the third lodge to meet in the Masonic Temple at Windsor , and hoping the same good feelings of brotherly love and fellowship would con ' . inue for all time .

Wills and he had now the very great privilege to present the same , not in any mere formal manner but as a token of the love and esteem that Comp . Wills was held in , and also for the admirable manner in which the duties of the chapter had been carried out during the past year . It was the desire of every companion that the Great I Am would spare him many years to wear the same . Also to still further show their
appreciation the companions of the chapter presented him with the Past Principal ' s collar and jewel , which the M . E . Z . hoped would adorn his neck for very long years to come . In reply Comp . Wm . Wills tendered his sincere and heartfelt thanks to the companions and stated that his year had been a most pleasant and , he was happy to say , successful one , which was very gratifying . He thanked them , indeed , for the splendid Past Principal ' s jewel and also the collar and jewel attached ; he trusted that
the Great I Am would spare him many years to wear it . Like Comp . Benj . Morgan , P . Z ., when he left the chair last year he made a presentation of a beautiful Charity box , so now on his retiring , as a memento of his year , he had very great pleaure in presenting a gavel , very suitably inscribed . It was resolved that a very hearty vote of thanks be given to Comp . Wm . Wills for the gift . The Auditors , Comps . Lightfoot , Morgan , and Pow presented their report , which showed the chapter to be financially sound . They received a vote of thanks for their labours .
The business of the convocation ended , the companions adjourned to an excellent repast supplied by Comp . Pow and Mrs . Pow . The M . E . Z . presented the toasts of" The Queen znd Royal Arch Masonry , " and of "H . R . H . the M . W . G . Z ., " and remarked all present sympathised with his Royal Highness in his late accident , and hoped that he would soon be enabled to continue his Masonic duties in which he always took so deep an interest , especially in the Charities . They were most loyally responded to .
That of "The ProG . Z ., G . H ., and G . J ., " also received high eulogiums , and was duly honoured . Comp . Wm . Wills said for the first time in the Selwyn Chapter he had the pleasure of presenting the toast of "The M . E . Z ., " who had done splendid service in the Selwyn Lodge and had shown himself so capable already in the chapter . He hoped the companions would rally round the First Principal and make the year a still more prosperous one .
Comp . A . H . Fraser , M . E . Z ., thanked all for their very kind expressions and the flattering remarks of Comp . Wills which it would be his endeavours to fully carry out . His _ utmost aim would be to uphold the prestige of the chapter , and also perform the duties ( so long as the companions brought him worthy brethren ) in the same perfect manner as hitherto . He most heartily thanked the companions . The toast of "The Co-Principals H . and J . " was next presented by the M . E . Z .,
who remarked of Comp . Pow , H ., that he had done yeoman service in the Selwyn Lodge while its Master , and he was thoroughly capable of performing the duties as H . of the chapter , having already done so in the Selwyn Chapter of Instruction under the able Preceptor , Comp . Thomas Grummant , P . Z . The same remarks were applicable to Comp . H . C . Turner , J ., who was P . M . of the Beaconsfield Lodge , where he had thoroughly made his mark .
The H . and J . most ably responded , thanking the chapter for electing them to their respective proud positions . The toast of " The Visitors " was given by the M . E . Z ., and Comp . Graham very ably replied . The toast of "The Past Principals" received at the hands of the M . E . Z . the measure of gratitude which the companions owed to them for their past able services . The toast was responded to by Comps . Wills , I . P . Z ., and E . Giuntlett , senior P . Z ., who paid a hu * , h compliment to the M . E . Z ., having known him for 12 years , he being his sponsor into Freemasonry , and also stated of himself that it was a quarter of a century that very evening since he saw the light of Freemasonry . Comps . Lightfoot , Stone , and Morgan also suitably replied .
Comp . Fraser , M . E . Z ., next proposed " The Past Principals in the Chapter , " and stated the chapter was greatly indebted to them tor their splendid services . Comps . VV . H . Hook , P . Z ., first acting I . P . Z ., and T . Grummant , P . Z . ( honorary member for services rendered ) , very cordially responded . Ihe toast of " The Treasurer and S . E . " wis next proposed in appreciative terms , and replied to very forcibly by Comps . Hook , P . Z ., and Stone , P . Z ., Treas . and S . E ., respectively . The M . E . Z . next gave the toast of "The Officers , " congratulating himself and the chapter on their efficiency .
Comp . H . Hayward , S . N ., in reply , said he felt the great honour of having a collar placed round his neck for the first time in his life , although 23 years a Freemason . He hoped he should deserve every kind remark of the M . E . Z . Comp . J . Pointon , P . S ., also acknowledged the honour done him , although so young a Royal Arch Mason , but he should perform his duties as thoroughly as he had endeavoured in the Selwyn Lodge . The Janitor ' s toast closed a happy and successful convocation .

It was resolved that a very hearty vote of thanks be given to Comp . Wm . Wills for the gift . The Auditors , Comps . Lightfoot , Morgan , and Pow presented their report , which showed the chapter to be financially sound . They received a vote of thanks for their labours .
The business of the convocation ended , the companions adjourned to an excellent repast supplied by Comp . Pow and Mrs . Pow . The M . E . Z . presented the toasts of" The Queen znd Royal Arch Masonry , " and of "H . R . H . the M . W . G . Z ., " and remarked all present sympathised with his Royal Highness in his late accident , and hoped that he would soon be enabled to continue his Masonic duties in which he always took so deep an interest , especially in the Charities . They were most loyally responded to .
That of "The ProG . Z ., G . H ., and G . J ., " also received high eulogiums , and was duly honoured . Comp . Wm . Wills said for the first time in the Selwyn Chapter he had the pleasure of presenting the toast of "The M . E . Z ., " who had done splendid service in the Selwyn Lodge and had shown himself so capable already in the chapter . He hoped the companions would rally round the First Principal and make the year a still more prosperous one .
Comp . A . H . Fraser , M . E . Z ., thanked all for their very kind expressions and the flattering remarks of Comp . Wills which it would be his endeavours to fully carry out . His _ utmost aim would be to uphold the prestige of the chapter , and also perform the duties ( so long as the companions brought him worthy brethren ) in the same perfect manner as hitherto . He most heartily thanked the companions . The toast of "The Co-Principals H . and J . " was next presented by the M . E . Z .,
who remarked of Comp . Pow , H ., that he had done yeoman service in the Selwyn Lodge while its Master , and he was thoroughly capable of performing the duties as H . of the chapter , having already done so in the Selwyn Chapter of Instruction under the able Preceptor , Comp . Thomas Grummant , P . Z . The same remarks were applicable to Comp . H . C . Turner , J ., who was P . M . of the Beaconsfield Lodge , where he had thoroughly made his mark .
The H . and J . most ably responded , thanking the chapter for electing them to their respective proud positions . The toast of " The Visitors " was given by the M . E . Z ., and Comp . Graham very ably replied . The toast of "The Past Principals" received at the hands of the M . E . Z . the measure of gratitude which the companions owed to them for their past able services . The toast was responded to by Comps . Wills , I . P . Z ., and E . Giuntlett , senior P . Z ., who paid a hu * , h compliment to the M . E . Z ., having known him for 12 years , he being his sponsor into Freemasonry , and also stated of himself that it was a quarter of a century that very evening since he saw the light of Freemasonry . Comps . Lightfoot , Stone , and Morgan also suitably replied .
Comp . Fraser , M . E . Z ., next proposed " The Past Principals in the Chapter , " and stated the chapter was greatly indebted to them tor their splendid services . Comps . VV . H . Hook , P . Z ., first acting I . P . Z ., and T . Grummant , P . Z . ( honorary member for services rendered ) , very cordially responded . Ihe toast of " The Treasurer and S . E . " wis next proposed in appreciative terms , and replied to very forcibly by Comps . Hook , P . Z ., and Stone , P . Z ., Treas . and S . E ., respectively . The M . E . Z . next gave the toast of "The Officers , " congratulating himself and the chapter on their efficiency .
Comp . H . Hayward , S . N ., in reply , said he felt the great honour of having a collar placed round his neck for the first time in his life , although 23 years a Freemason . He hoped he should deserve every kind remark of the M . E . Z . Comp . J . Pointon , P . S ., also acknowledged the honour done him , although so young a Royal Arch Mason , but he should perform his duties as thoroughly as he had endeavoured in the Selwyn Lodge . The Janitor ' s toast closed a happy and successful convocation .
The musical arrangements were under the direction of Comp . G . S . Graham , P . Z . 1503 , ably supported by Comps . Hook , Stone , H . Prenton , Arthur Carlyle , Dyved Lewys , and E . Delevanti ( the Court Part Singers ) , and Graham . Comp . E . Delevanti ably presided at the piano .
H . R . H . THE PRINCE OF WALES received the Danish Minister , Monsieur de Bille , on Monday . PRINCESS CHRISTIAN , accompanied by Princess Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein and the Duchess of Devonshire , left King ' s Cross on Monday afternoon , in a special saloon attached to the 1 . 30 train for Ripon , on a visit to the Bishop of Ripon and Mrs . Boyd Carpenter .
