Mount Calvary Encampment ( D ) . — This old encampment met at the Inns of Court Hotel , Lincoln ' s Inn Fields , on the 14 th inst . Among those present were Sir Knights H . J . Lardner , E . I he minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Comp . Quincey , who had been previously balloted for , was most ably installed as a Knight of the Order by the E . C , who was most efficiently supported by his officers . It was unanimously resolved that the summer meeting of the encampment should be held , as heretofore ,

at the Mitre Hotel , Hampton Court , on the third Friday in June next . Apologies for non-attendance were received from Sir Knights Col . Shadwell H . Gierke , G . S . P . ; Capt . F . J . The encampment was then closed , and the sir knights adjourned to the banquet , which was served in a manner that reflected great credit upon the management . The customary toasts having been disposed of , Sir Knight W . Paas , in the absence of the I . P . E . C , proposed "The Health of the Eminent Commander . " In the course of his remarks , he said that many of them had had an opportunity of witnessing the effective working of Sir

Kni g ht Lardner in other Degrees of Masonry , but that evening they had heard him work for the first time the difficult ceremony of the Knights Templar . He ( the speaker ) had been a member of the Mount Calvary for nearly 30 years , and he could candidly say that he had n ? y-r heard the ceremony better performed . The E . C . having responded , gave the toast of "The Newly-Installed Knight . "

Sir Knight Quincey having briefly replied , the toast of " The Visitors " followed . The E . C , in introducing the toast , spoke of the eminent services rendered to Masonry in almost all its Degrees by Sir Knight Shirley , who was most painstaking in all that he performed . As the other visitors had left , he could only call upon Sir Knight Shirley to respond .

The toast having been warmly received , Sir Knight Shirley replied . He said that he felt quite overcome by the wealth of encomiums showered upon him by the E . C . They were fellow workers in other Degrees , and he had the highest possible admiration of the E . C . ' s abilities as a Masonic worker . Havingquite recently vacated the chair of the Shadwell Gierke Preceptory , he ( the

speaker ) could appreciate and follow the perfect working of the Templar Degree as rendered by Sir Knight Lardner that evening . " The Past Commanders' " toast was coupled with the names of Sir Knights F . W . Driver and J . H . Dodson , who responded at length . "The Health of the Treasurer and Recorder" having been given , those officials duly acknowledged the compliment .

The toast of "The Officers" followed . This pledge was replied toby Sir Knights Prower , Maple , and Hawkins . Previously to the meeting separating , the Recorder , in the absence of the Treasurer , stated that it was the wish of many members of the encampment that the services of Sir

Knight Paas , who had held the office of Treasurer for nearly a quarter of a century , should be recognised . Sir Knight Capt . S tohwasser , he said , had kindly volunteered to act as honorary Treasurer , and he ( the speaker ) was willing to act as honorary Secretary to a testimonial fund . This project was warmly received , by all present pledging themselves to support it .

S ., the sum of £ 3 was voted for the purchase of a pair of globes to be presented to the Eboracum Lodge , on whose premises the chapter met at a nominal rent . The chapter was then closed .

Subsequently the brethren sat down to a capital dinner , after which the M . W . S ., tfro . Grant , presented to the S . G . I . G . a case of fish knives and forks , with a suitably engraved plate , and a list of the members of the chapter subscribing thereto , and assured Bro . Banister that every member of the chapter held him in the greatest respect , and trusted that he might long be spared to come amongst them .

Bro . Banister , in his reply of thanks , expressed his deep concern for the welfare of Freemasonry , and especially for the Ancient and Accepted Rite , and said that so long as he was spared in health he should make a point of coming amongst them . A right pleasant evening was thus suitably concluded .

Laying Foundation-Stone Of A New Masonic Hall At Sidmouth.

LAYING FOUNDATION-STONE OF A NEW MASONIC HALL AT SIDMOUTH .

The foundation-stone of a new Masonic Hall for the Perseverance Lodge , No . 164 , Sidmouth , took place on the Sth inst . The site is in Upper High-street , and the lodge is to be built from plans prepared by Bro . J . Jerman , P . P . G . S . of W ., hon . architect , by Mr . W . M . Critchley . Brethren having met in the lodge at the

London Hotel , marched in procession to the parish church , where a service was conducted by Revs . H . G . J . Clements and H . E . Roberts , the sermon being preached by Bro . the Rev . R . Swansborough , P . P . G . Chap ., in the absence , through illness , of Bro . the Rev . R . T . Thornton .

At the conclusion of the service the procession was re-formed , and proceeded to the site . trowel , subscribed for b y the brethren of Lodge of Perseverance . The stone having been laid , Bro . Orchard poured corn , wine , and oil on the stone , expressing a hope that the building would never lack that which those things were emblematical of . Bro . E . H . SHORTO , 39 , then gave an oration on the principles of Masonry , after which Bro . ORCHARD

handed the architect the plans , and thanked Bro . Jerman , on behalf of the brethren , for the kind and brotherly feeling which had induced him to prepare the plans , & c , free of charge . A Masonic ode was then sung by those present , and a thanksgiving was said by a P . P . G . Chaplain , and the proceedings were brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem .

The procession was then re-formed , and the brethren proceeded to Bro . Huxtable ' s Hotel , where they dined together . Several of the tradespeople exhibited bunting , and a large number of persons witnessed the ceremony . The officers of the lodge present were Bros . W .
