Consecration Of The Marlow Lodge, No. 2752.

CONSECRATION OF THE MARLOW LODGE , No . 2752 .

For many years past members of the Craft at MarFow have desired to have a lodge of their own in this riverside town . The summer months always bring many Masonic brethren to the town , and some surprise has been expressed that there was no lodge there . Unfortunately , until recently there were not sufficient Masons in the town to houe to form a lodce . and

those who have followed the ancient Craft have had to seek Masonic lodges at Wycombe , Maidenhead , and London , in order to meet their brethren . During the last few years a number of Marlow men have been initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry at Wycombe , including the late Bro . W . E . Cole , of the Crown Hotel , who was one of the most ardent supporters of the

movement to establish a lodge at Marlow . After much consideration , it was decided , about last October , to start a lodge , and a meeting of the Masons residents in this locality was called for this purpose . The result of their deliberations was the drawing up of a petition to Grand Lodge , which was signed by 29 brethren from neighbouring lodges . Bro . H . Hambling ,

of Marlow , was selected as W . M . designate , and Bro . G . Kendall , P . M ., kindly undertook the secretarial duties pro tern . The Wycombe Lodge recommended the petition , and the warrant was granted by Grand Lodge last June , the consecration being fixed for Wednesday , the 1 ith instant . As we have already indicated , it was not difficult—it never is among good Masons—to" find brethren ready and willing to assist their fellow Masons to

found a new lodge in a town where the needs of such are as clearly evident as was the case at Marlow ; and , as will be seen , both the Wycombe , Maidenhead , and London lodges all lent their quota for the purpose , the number of founders being as follows : Bros . An excellent and convenient lodge room was found at the Crown Hotel , several of the founders giving much of the furniture , & c , necessary , and here , as we have said , on the nth instant , the consecration of the new lodge took place amid a large gathering of the brethren from all parts of the county and the neighbourhood , including the following : The Deputy

The brethren having assembled in the lodge room , the D . P . G . M ., as Consecrating Officer , appointed his officers as given above , and , the lodge having been opened in due form , the opening hymn , " Hail , Eternal , " was sung . The Consecrating Officer then addressed the brethren on the motive of the meeting , and called upon the Chaplain to give the opening prayer , after which the brethren of the new lodge were arranged in order , and the Prov . G . Sec , Bro . Woollett , read the warrant .

Bro . the Rev . Canon BROWNRIGG , Chap ., then gave a very appropriate and eloquent oration on the nature and principles of the Institution . The anthem , '' Behold how good and joyful a thing it is for Brethren to dwtll together in unity , " was then sung by the Windsor Glee Singers , after which the first portion of the dedication prayer was given by the Chaplain , and the D . P . G . M . afterwards delivered the invocation . The Chaplain

having read II . Chron ., chap , ii ., verses 1 to 16 , the Consecrating Officer then proceeded , with the usual ceremony , to scatter the elements of consecration—corn , wine , oil , and salt—upon the lodge . The Chaplain read Leviticus , chap , ii ., verse 13 , and the Consecrating Officer proceeded to dedicate the lodge . The anthem , " O , how admirable are Thy dv , tilings , " was then sung , after which the Chaplain took the censer round the lodge , halted in the East , and gave the second portion of the

dedication prayer . The Consecrating Officer having constituted the lodge , the ceremony cmcluded with an anthem and the patriarchal benediction by the Chaplain . The whole ceremony was very impressive . The W . M . designate ( Bro . Hambling ) was installed according to ancient rite , after which he appointed and invested his officers as follows :

The newlyiiutalled W . M ., of course , presided , and he was supported by the Prov . G . Officers and brethren whose names appear above . The usual loyal an Masonic toasts were subsequently honoured .
