The first business was the initiation of Mr . C . J . S . Bennett , into the mysteries of Freemasonry , and this was performed by the VV . M . and his officers in a perfect and impressive manner . Bro . D . Edwards , P . M . 1052 , W . M . 1193 , Installing Master , then took the chair and Bro . K . White , S . "Hearty good wishes" having been offered , the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . Subsequently the brethren sat down to an excellently
served banquet , the Worshiptul Master presiding . 1 he preliminary loyal and Masonic toasts were given from the chair j Bros . Beresford and Statham responding to that of " Col . Le Gendre Starkie , R . W . P . G . M . of East Lancashire , and the P . G . Officers . " In accordance with custom at this lodge , a toast was proposed and drunk in silence to the memory of its founder , the late Bro . VV . Romaine Callender , M . P . for Manchester
and Deputy P . G . M . East Lancashire . "The Health of the VV . M . " was proposed by Bro . Edwards , P . M ., and honoured with great enthusiasm . The Worshipful Master in reply thanked the brethren for their kindness in responding to the toast as they had done , and said his only desire was to do everything possible for the interest of the Callender Lodge during his year of office . He was especially pleased to come into the chair at
the present moment , knowing as he did that the brethren composing the lodge were so thoroughly united . Indeed , he could say that for the past few years they had been like one family , and that nothing had occurred which had caused the slightest dissatisfaction to any brother . He hoped that the harmonry which had so long prevailed would be continued under his rule , and that heshould , as he earnestly intended to do , hand down the dignified office tc
which he had been elected unsullied to his successor . The Worshipful Master then proposed "The Health of Bro . Duncan , I . P . M ., " and having complimented him upon his working and ruling of the lodge during the year , presented him with a handsome Past Master ' s jewel , which he pinned upon his breastamidst loud applause . " The Newly-initiated Brother" having been toasted , " The Health of the Visiting Brethren " was proposed by
Bro . Barker . Bros . Kapadia , Laidlow , Jones , jCowen , and others , repsponded , the first-named brother , a Parsee , making an interesting speech in which he referred to the positions of Freemasonry in the Bombay Presidency . The remaining toasts included " The P . M . ' s of the Callender Lodge j " "The Installing Masters j" The Newly-Invested Officers ,- " and " The Masonic Charities . "
LIVERPOOL . —Temple Lodge ( No 1094 ) . — Increase of years and popularity of position go hand-inhand in connection with the history of the above lodge , whose members celebrated their annual festival—always pleasant and successful , and none more so than this—at the Masonic Hall , Hope-street , on VVednesday , the nth inst . There were several specially gratifying features about the festal gathering , but that which gave the most
sincere delight and the greatest satisfaction , was the wellmerited and most unusual compliment paid to Bro . Joseph Wood in his election as thc first honorary member of the Temple in recognition of his eminent qualities as a Mason , his active and valuable services as a former Treasurer for a long series of years , and his well-known private worth and sterling honesty of purpose in all his business dealings . Bro . Wood's name has long been most honourably
identified with the Temple Lodge , and honorary membership may be looked upon as a kind of Masonic " Victoria Cross " which has been fully merited by faithful adherence and active service to the lodge . The business of the afternoon was inaugurated by Bro . J . Alexander , the retiring W . M ., and amongst the chiefs of the Temple and the visitors present were : Bros . Dr . J . K . Smith , P . P . G . Reg . j R . Washington , P . P . G . S . D . j Dr . R . H . D . Johnson ,

M ., and R . C . Yelland , P . M ., were created life governors ot the South-west Masonic Educational Institution , as the result of the proceeds of the charity box . It appeared that at a meeting of the Temple Lodge , held on the 14 th ultimo , it was unanimously resolved on the
motion of Bro . R . R . Martin , P . M ., seconded by Bro . Dr . Johnson , P . M ., that Bro . Joseph Wood should be elected an honorary member of the lodge . This resolution was now engrossed on vellum , and is a well-deserved compliment to a much esteemed brother , who for many years efficiently performed the duties of Treasurer to the lodge . Reference was made to Bro . Wood ' s many estimable qualities , and the vellum conveying notification of the
honour thus conferred upon him was forwarded to his residence , as business engagements prevented his attendance . At the conclusion of the installation ceremony and presentation , the brethren dined in the banqueting room , and during the evening an enjoyable musical programme was given by Bros . J . Busfield , T . Hatton , Ellinger , Romagc , Hudson , Reader , Foulkes , Evans , J . Skeaf , J . Cave and Dr . Johnson gave excellent recitations .

M . elect , Bro . J . J . Lambert , to the Installing Master , who with all due rite and ceremony inducted him into the chair of K . S . On the readmission of the brethren Bro .
Lambert was proclaimed and saluted by them in the customary manner . Bro . Schofield , P . M ., invested the following officers : Bros . David Williams , S . VV . j W . Butcher , J . W . j Rev . H . Bethell Jones , Chap . j W . H . Milner , Treas . ; and J . Crompton , P . M ., Sec . Bro . Crompton , P . M ., invested the rest of the officers as follows : Bros . C .

Riley , Stewards . Bro . Crompton addressed the VV . M . and Wardens , and Bro . Schofield the brethren . When "Hearty good wishes " had been expressed the lodge was closed in peace and harmony . The brethren afterwards celebrated the festival of St .
John by a banquet . The tables were most tastefully set out with a profusion of choice flowers and plants , and at the conclusion of the banquet the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed and responded to . In proposing " The Health of the I . P . M . " Bro . Lambert eulogised the manner in which he had performed his duties , and as a slight return for his services presented him in the name of the lodge with a Past Master's gold jewel , for which Bro . Dewhurst returned thanks in a few
appropriate sentences . "The Health of the Initiate , Bro . Locke , " was next proposed by the W . M . and heartily drank by the brethren . Bro . Locke having returned thanks the I . P . M ., Bro . Dewhurst , proposed the toast of the evening , viz ., " The W . M ., " which was enthusiastically received by the brethren and drunk by them . The Worshipful Master in reply said he had attended
many installation meetings during his Masonic career , and had often thought that the newly-installed W . M . might in response to the toast of his health have said more or less than he did j but he ( Bro . Lambert ) would simply say that he trusted his health would be drunk with the same cordiality at the expiration of his year of office as it had been that evening . He felt that the office of W . M . was no sinecure , and that it was somewhat difficult for him to worthily
follow in the footsteps of those who had gone before him . He felt a bit nervous at the prospect of passing two and raising four candidates who were due for those destinations , to say nothing of work in future ; but with the cordial support of his officers he should not fail to do his utmost , and hoped he should be able to give his brethren satisfaction , and that they would never have cause to regret electing him to the office of W . M .
Bro . Butcher , J . W ., proposed "The Health of thc Visiting Brethren" in eulogistic terms , and several of their number responded . Bro . Davies . P . M ., proposed " The Masonic Charities , " and in the course of his remarks alluded to the high honours which had been gained by boys and girls educated in the Masonic Institutions at the Cambridge University . Bro . Davies explained that his reason for wishing to nrooose a
resolution that the initiation fee be raised from six to eight guineas was that the lodge would then be able to contribute more to these deserving Charities than it had hitherto done j and in commending the Charities to the notice of the brethren , announced his intention of serving as Steward at the forthcoming festival of the Girls' Institution in London .
Bro . bchoheld , P . M ., supplemented the remarks of Bro . Davies , and intimated his intention of acting as Steward at the festival . The Worshipful Master said the lodge had laboured under disadvantages for the last few years , being put to a great expense in having a hall built to hold their meetings in , and consequently it was onl y quite recently they had freed themselves from debt . 1 hey had however given as .

K . White , S . W ., who had been unanimously elected to fill the office of Master for the ensuing year , was presented by Bro . Davies , P . M ., D . C ,
for the benefit of installation . With the assistance of a numerous Board of Installed Masters , Bro . White was inducted into the chair of K . S ., and the brethren being admitted he was proclaimed and saluted in ancient form . The VV . M . then invested his officers as follows : Bros . W . Duncan , 1 . P . M . j A . B . Outram , S . W . j R . Walker , J . W . j D . Edwards , P . M ., Treas . j S . Wrigley , Sec . j S . Davies , P . M ., D . C .,- J . Jodrell , S . O . ; E . Jones , J . D . j C . Griffin ,

M ., fully sustained the reputation which he enjoys as a master of our beautiful ritual , and received the warm approbation or the brethren .
Dr . J . K . Smith , P . P .

Lambert was proclaimed and saluted by them in the customary manner . Bro . Schofield , P . M ., invested the following officers : Bros . David Williams , S . VV . j W . Butcher , J . W . j Rev . H .
