firmed . It was proposed , seconded , and carried unanimously , that the usual complimentary dinner to the I . P . M . be given , to which ladies should be admitted , thc month of June being determined upon ; a committee was formed to carry out the arrangements . The lodge was then closed , " and the brethren adjourned to dinner , the usual toasts being proposed in Bro . Jolliffe ' s usual happy manner .

I , for Boys , the result being 100 guineas . Bros . Soper , Charles , Russell , Shotter , and Crockford contributed some excellent singing , with accompaniment by Bro . Lovett on the piano , adding much enjoyment to the evening's proceedings .

LODGE OF PERSEVERANCE ( No . 1 743 ) . — An ordinary meeting was held on Saturday last , at the Imperial Hotel , Holborn Viaduct , when the brethren of the lodge mustered in considerable force to transact the business set down on a somewhat heavy agenda paper . Bro . VV . H . Mollindinia , the VV . M ., was unfortunately prevented by sickness from being present , and in his absence Bro . Louis A . Leins , P . M ., and father of the lodge presided ;

and however much the brethren may have regretted the circumstances which prevented Bro . Mollindinia from being present , his place was most admirably filled by Bro . Leins , whose task embraced all three ceremonies , each one of which was carried out with the most perfect accuracy , to the minutest details , and in the most solemn and impressive manner . Extremely careful as to the way in which he performed his own work , Bro . Leins was admirably

seconded by his officer , who appeared to vie with each other in . their endeavours that the work should be performed without a hitch ; and it is no empty compliment to say that to witness the working in the Lodge of Perseverance last Saturday was a Masonic treat . There were four candidates for raising , namely , Bros . Watts , Draper , Park , and Wells , who were conducted through the ceremony two and two up to the obligation , and were afterwards all raised

together . Bros . Wainwright and Corsham were then passed to the Degree of F . C , and lastly Mr . John Morris Broad , 38 , chemist , of Rise House , Hornsey Rise , proposed by Bro . Chamberlayne , and seconded by Bro . Ferry , Sec , and Mr . George Augustus Timme , 17 , engineer , of Sangora-road , New Wandsworth , proposed by Bro . Lovell , D . C , and seconded by Bro . VV . Smith , S . D ., were initiated into the First Degree .

When the business on the . agenda paper had been disposed of , a conversation took place as to the desirability of having a ladies' evening on the occasion of the next lodge meeting—the meaning of ladies' evening being that ladies should be admitted to the banquet , and that the evening should be wound up with a little dancing . Bro . Leins explained that this was a matter which could not be disposed of by a resolution of the lodge , but must depend

upon an agreement between the brethren individually . Some of the brethren rather desired that the lodge meeting should be held on thc appointed Saturday , in the usual way , for work , and that some other day in the week should be named for the dinner , because if Saturday was adhered to the dance must necessaril y be strictly of a Cinderella character . On the other hand it was pointed out that such a proceeding would make the meeting altogether

independent of the lodge—wnich was not desired—and would besides greatly increase the expense . It was ultimately agreed by a majority of the brethren present that they would bring ladies to attend the banquet , after the lodge meeting in April , and a committee was nominated to arrange the necessary details , it being suggested that an unusually early hour should be fixed for opening the lodge and getting through the work , so as to admit of the possibility of an

early dinner hour . The Secretary then read various communications he had received , and the lodge was closed in perfect harmony . Amongst the visitors present were Bros . G . Kearney , J . VV . 1541 ; J . C . Cross , S . VV . 902 ; G . Schaeller , P . M . 65 ; A . F . Lay , P . M . 1364 ; J . Phillips , 158 ; R . Dyson , J . W . 65 ; W . F . Packer , 1571 ; J . Lusby , jun ., 1259 ; J . Handley , 473 ; R . J . Ward , P . M . 3 ; W . Williams ,

VV . M . 902 ; VV . Wyatt , 121 , Canada ; U . U . JiunUy , l ' . M . 902 ; and E . C . Massey . After the lodge meeting , the brethren and their guests supped together , and passed a very pleasant evening . Bro . Leins presided , and made , as he always does , a most genial host . It is often said that Freemasons should not be parties to introducing any one into the Craft whom they would hesitate to introduce to their own families ; there can be no

doubt that Bro . Leins acts on this principle , and he showed his confidence in "his children , " as he calls them , of the Perseverance Lodge on Saturday by bringing three of his daughters—charming young ladies and admirable musicians to enliven the intervals between the toasts by their instrumental and vocal performances . The brethren owe their thanks to Bro . Leins , and their most respectful gratitude to the young ladies themselves .

The customary list of toasts was disposed of , including "The Oueen and Craft , " "The M . W . G . M ., the Prince of VVales , " "The rest of the Grand Officers , " " The VV . M ., " " The Initiates , " "The Visitors , " "The P . M . 's , " "The Secretary , " " The Officers of the Lodge , " and " The Press . " The I . P . M ., in proposing " The Health of the W . M ., " said that was a toast which was always very heartily

received by the brethren of the Perseverance Lodge . Ihe brethren had heard the statement made in lodge by the W . M . in the chair that Bro . Mollindinia was unable to attend in consequence of his illness , which they all regretted , sympathising deeply with Bro . Mollindinia on the fact . Bro . Leins , however , was always to the fore to fulfil the duties of an ; absent brother , and there was no one whom the brethren of the lodge would wish to see in the chair on

such an occasion so much as Bro . Leins . He was , so to speak , the father of the lodge , and there was no occasion to say more , and he would therefore simply ask them tobc upstanding , and drink the health of Bro . Leins , the W . M . in the chair . In reply , Bro . Leins said he rose with very great pleasure

to thank the brethren for the very kind way in which his health had been proposed by the Past Master , and responded to by the brethren . It grieved him very much that their W . M . was not with them , though his absence could not bc avoided . When the Master of a lodge was smitten with illness , it was doubtless hard for thc sufferer to be deprived of thc opportunity of performing his Masonic

duties , and it was also hard for the lodge to be deprived of his services . Such things , however , were unavoidable , and they could only pray that their W . M . might soon be with them again . As for himself , the brethren knew that he did everything he could for the interest of the Lodge of Perseverance , of which he was the father . He had succeeded in establishing the lodge , and had met with very good friends , who rallied round him and paid him the compliment

of asking his advice whenever they wanted it , knowing that it would always be given freely to the best of his ability . It was most gratifying to him to know they were such an harmonious lodge ; he thought the fact of their being so harmonious a body must strike their visitors . Bro . Leins concluded by saying that he hoped he should be a member of the Lodge of Perseverance to the last day of his life , and that they might always be a happy , united body as they were now .

VICTORIA PARK LODGE ( No . 1 S 16 ) . —This successful lodge met on the 25 th ult . at Bro . M . Hart's commodious hostelry , the Queen ' s Hotel , Victoria Park , E . There was a good and punctual attendance of the officers and the brethren , and this enabled the VV . M ., Bro . C . VV . Carrell , to commence business betimes , and bestow their time upon lodge working , and the subsequent festive

proceedings , which rendered them very enjoyable . The attendance included Bros . A . Oldroyds , S . W . ; W . Watkins , J . W . ; G . Morris , Treas . ; H . Rogers , P . M ., Sec . j J . T . Kinipple , S . D . ; H . Sinclair , J . D . j E . W . Clements , D . C ; F . Johnson , I . G . ; M . Sherwin , Org . ; H . J . Cant , I . P . M . ; Reeve , P . M . ; J . Hughes , P . M . ; D . Hodges , P . M . ; G . Thompson , A . Green , R . D .

Longworth , S . H . Corfield , A . T . Garood , VV . B . Abrahams , A . Govier , W . Craig , M . Hart , G . S . Wilson , G . T . Sims , and others . Among the visitors were Bros . T . G . Harris , 1278 ; J . T . Bishop , 1364 ; James Pinder , P . M . 15 , 1662 , 1992 ; H . Brown , 107 G ; A . T . Dale , 1076 ; G . H . Stephens , P . M . 1623 ; and others . Bro . Dale was tested , and subsequently received the

beoefit of the 1 hird Degree , and the ballot was next successfully worked for the admission of three gentlemen into the Order . The work of initiating them was most beautifully performed , and the effect was heightened by the fact that one of the newly-made brethren is brother to the presiding VV . M . The lodge was draped in mourning , for since last meeting one of the brethren died suddenly , viz .,

Bro . J . Freeborn , who , during his lifetime as a Mason , had endeared himself to ail , and deep regret was expressed at his being so suddenly cut off in the prime of life , he being only 39 years of age . We may state that this respect caused the brethren of the Victoria Park Lodge to attend the funeral , which took place the previous week at Highgate . Three broughams , supplied by Bros . Rochester and Fox ,

adjoining the Plough , Bow-road , met at their hostelry , of which our deceased brother was , in his lifetime , the manager , and joining the funeralprocession at Camden Town , took part in the last sad offices of respect to the departed . The coffin , of polished oak , bore several Masonic emblems , and the whole arrangement was entrusted to the practised hands of Messrs . Fox and Son , 92 , St . George ' s-street , E .

Four gentlemen were proposed to be initiated at next lodge meeting , and one brother was proposed as a joining member . The VV . M . was enabled to give a very good account of his Stewardshi p to the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution , he having taken up £ 156 17 s . Gd ., being the largest amount from the Eastern part of the Metropolis , and making with nearly a similar sum collected by Bro . Cant , I . P . M ., last year £ 300 for two consecutive years , a

position which a young lodge may be especially proud of . After lodge Bro . Hart very successfully catered for the wants of a large number of brethren , and after grace , the usual toasts were given and honoured , with point and enthusiasm . The speeches were kept within due bounds , and harmony prevailed , contributed to by Bros . A . W . Weston , J . T . Kinipple , H . Broivn , A . Green , J . Hughes ) P . M . ; Reeve , P . M . ; and others , Bro . M . Sherwin proving an obliging accompanist .

ALLIANCE LODGE ( No . 1827 ) . —At the last regular meeting of this Corporation lodge , held at the Guildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , Bro . Lieut . H . VVright presided , supported by Bros . Col . T . Davies Sewell , P . M .: J . Perkins , CC , S . W . ; H . Squire , C . C , J . W . j R . J . Pawley , P . M ., Treas . ; J . E . Turner , P . M ., Sec ; Major J . P . Godfrey , J . D . ; F . Jewson , Org . ; J . C .

Whiddington , D . C ; J . Lovell , lyler j and many olher brethren and visitors . At thc conclusion of lodge business a sumptuous repast was served by Messrs . Ritter and Clifford , whose arrangements gave unqualified satisfaction . After the banquet the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , and " The Health of the W . M . " was received with special enthusiasm .

Bro . Wright , in the course of the evening , expressed regret at the absence of Bros . Sir John Monckton , F . Green , C . C , and others , whose presence was always welcome at the gatherings of the Alliance Lodge . He then proposed "The Healths of the P . M . ' s , " who were represented on this occasion by Bro . Col . T . Davies Sewell , and referred to the dignity and urbanity with which that brother

conducted the business of the lodge during his year of office . His ability and genial manner had won for him many friends , not only in the lodge , but also in the Corporation and the City guilds . Bro . Col . Sewell , in acknowledging the compliment paid him , said he owed a deep debt of gratitude to the brethren for the cordiality with which they had received the mention of his name , lt was a great undertaking to respond to

this toast , as he had succeeded to a long line of distinguished P . M . ' s , who had acquitted themselves vvith credit and satisfaction net only to this lodge in particular , but to the City of London generally . From the way in which he was always received here he owed the utmost fealty to thc Alliance Lodge , and he rejoiced lo see the unanimity and harmony which pervaded the whole of its members , which he hoped would long continue .

Bro . Smith then said he had been called upon to perform a very pleasant duty , and he asked the brethren to join with him in drinking to " The Health of their Excellent VV . M . " They had always been accustomed to look . to the Master of the Alliance Lodge to do his duty well , but they must all admit that none could have acquitted himself better in that capacity than had Bro . Wright . He was thoroughly acquainted with thc ritual of the Craft , and would prove an ornament to the lodge , when he was called , upon to join the ranks of the veterans .

Bros . Corbett and Russell responded for "The Visitors . " The indefatigable Secretary , Bro . Rev . Dr . Brette , introduced the W . M . 's Stewards' list for the R . M . I , for Boys , the result being 100 guineas . Bros . Soper , Charles , Russell , Shotter , and Crockford contributed some excellent singing , with accompaniment by Bro . Lovett on the piano , adding much enjoyment to the evening's proceedings .

LODGE OF PERSEVERANCE ( No . 1 743 ) . — An ordinary meeting was held on Saturday last , at the Imperial Hotel , Holborn Viaduct , when the brethren of the lodge mustered in considerable force to transact the business set down on a somewhat heavy agenda paper . Bro . VV . H . Mollindinia , the VV . M ., was unfortunately prevented by sickness from being present , and in his absence Bro . Louis A . Leins , P . M ., and father of the lodge presided ;

and however much the brethren may have regretted the circumstances which prevented Bro .
