Bro . Beaumont said : It gives me great pleasure to assist in working the lodge to the best of my ability . 1 hope to see all the members go through the chair . Though some may feel slighted at the W . M . not having appointed his officers in strict rotation , he happened to know that each one ' s merits had been carefully weig hed , and some had declined from pressure of private affairs to serve , and so for followed

various reasons , rotation had not been altogether . Bro . Cundy wished to call the attention of thc brethren to the City of London Lodge ball , fixed for the 31 st inst ., and hoped to sec each member there , and bringing with him a lady . November were read , and after an alteration , at bir John Monckton ' s suggestion , were duly passed . Ballot was taken separately for Bro . Gabriel Prior Goldney , Prince of Wales Lodge , the City Remembrancer , and Bro . Jex , C . C , as joining members , and proved in both cases unanimous . Both these brethren were nominated by R . W . Bro . Sir John Monckton , who made a few remarks about them .

Ballot was then taken for Mr . H . Charles Richards , Member of the London School Board , City division , which also proved unanimous , and the candidate was introduced tothe lodge and regularly initiated , Bro . Henry Wright acting as j . D ., in the absence of Bro . Garnet Man . The visitors , Bros . James , 901 ; Isaacson , Clement ' s

Lodge ; and Davis , Crichton Lodge , greeted the VV . M . with " Hearty good wishes . " Bro . Sir John Monckton proposed that Bro . the Rev . Jas . Scott , who was initiated in the lodge , and travels from Cornwall for each meeting , should be appointed Chaplain , if the Master thought fit , which Bro . Wildey Wright did think , and promised to invest Bro . Scott with a collar on the

next occasion . The lodge was then closed , and the brethren adjourned to a banquet , at which the VV . M . made some excellent speeches , for whicli he is so specially qualified . Unfortunately , the initiate had to leave early in the evening , owing to illhealth .

Bro . Littell , P . M ., A . G . P ., replied for "The Grand Officers , Present and Past ; " Bro . G . N . Johnson , C . C , P . G . S ., for "The Past Masters ; " Bro . Bowley for "The Officers ; " and Bros . James and Isaacson for "The Visitors . " The latter also gave a recitation from Shakespeare . The brethren dispersed , after spending a most agreeable evening in one another ' s company , as is their wont .

Thc W . M . on behalf of the lodge , presented a Past Master ' s jewel to the retiring Master , Bro . Dr . Garstang . Bro . James Newton referred to the recent decease of Bro . Thos . Entwisle , P . M . 221 , P . Prov . G . Supt . of Works , and the great loss which the Craft in this district had thereby sustained , and proposed a resolution expressing the deep sense of regret of the members of this lodge at this untimely occurrence . The motion was seconded by Bro . Walter Pennington , and unanimously adopted . Two

brethren were proposed as joining members of the lodge . " Hearty good wishes " were expressed by the visitingbrethren , and the lodge was closed at 5 . 45 p . m . and the brethren adjourned tothe banquet table . It is a singular coincidence that Bro . G . P . Brockbank was initiated into Freemasonry on 15 th January , 1 S 4 G , and that in precisely thirty-seven years after , viz ., on the 15 th January , 1 SS 3 , he should be installed as W . M . of No . 37 Lodge .

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed , and the statement of accounts showing a favourable balance was presented by the Secretary , Bro . Wood , and received and adopted . The VV . M ., Bro . Hennah , then proceeded to carry out the business on the summons , viz ., to pass Bros . Allen and Case , the ceremony being performed in a very able manner . With the usual formalities the W . M . elect , Bro . Pearce , was then presented for

installation , and having assented , to the ancient charges , was , on the withdrawal of the brethren below the chair , duly inducted in the chair of K . S ., the ceremony being most ably carried out by the W . M ., Bro . Capt . Hennah . P . M . The W . M . elect , in a few appropriate remarks , presented the retiring W . M . with a valuable Past Master ' s jewel in recognition of services during his year of office . Bro . C . W . Duke , P . M ., was deputed to represent the lodge at the approaching Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . After some formal business had been transacted and "Hearty good wishes" expressed by the visitors , the lodge

was closed in due form , and the brethren to the number of nearly fifty then adjourned to the banqueting hall , which presented " a most brilliant appearance , the tables being decorated with some choice flowers , fruit , & c . At the conclusion of the banquet the usual loyal and Masonic complimentary toasts were given and responded

to . The lodge possesses considerable musical capability and on this occasion it was exemplified to a degree . The thanks of the lodge arc due to the able Organist , Bro . Hallett , F . O . C ., under whose direction a most enjoyable programme was carried out and highly appreciated by the brethren . Altogether the whole proceedings were of a very pleasant and successful nature .

SOUTHAMPTON . —Royal Gloucester Lodge ( No . 130 ) . —The installation meeting of this lodge took place on Thursday , when the Deputy Prov . Grand Master of Hauls and the Isle of Wight placed in the chair Bro . James Robertson , the board of installed Masters numbering nineteen , including representatives of the Peace and Harmony , Southampton , Shirley , Clausentum , Albert Edward , and Prosperity ( London ) Lodges . The newlyinstalled W . M . invested the following as officers : —W .

LANCASTER . —Lodge of Fortitude ( No . 281 ) . —The monthly meeting of this lodge was held in the Masonic Rooms Athencreum , on the evening of the 10 th inst ., when a good number of the brethren assembled to welcome the newly-installed VV . M ., Bro . B . Gregson's accession to the chair of K . S ., and who was supported by the whole of the officers , namely , Bros . Bayley , S . W . ; Stanton , J . W . ; McKaith , S . D . ; Nicholson , J . D .

Thistlethwaite , l . G . ; and Heald and Shaw , Stewards . The lodge having been opened in due form , it was unanimously resolved on the motion of Bro . John Hatch , P . M . and Sec , seconded by Bro . John Atkinson , P . M ., "That the sum of ten guineas be given to the Masonic

Chanties ; thc particular charities to which the money should be devoted being left in the hands of the Charity Committee . After the transaction of other business , the usual proclamation was made , which elicited hearty good wishes from the visiting brethren , and the lodge was subsequently closed in peace , love , and harmony .

LIVERPOOL . —Lodge of Sincerity ( No . 292 ) . —The brethren of this lodge met at the Adelphi Hotel on Monday , the Sth inst ., for the jiurpose of raising a brother to the Third Degree , and also to install the VV . M . for the ensuing year . The lodge was opened by the W . M ., Bro . Reginald Young , P . M . S 97 , and the ceremony of raising to the Third Degree was performed by Bro . W . O . Jones ,

I . P . M ., after which Bro . VV . Constable , S . W ., was installed into the chair of K . S ., the ceremony being performed by the retiring W . M . in a highly creditable and satisfactory manner . M . of this lodge was performed on Monday by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Hants and the Isle of Wight , Bro . W . Hickman , and the VV . M . subsequently invested his officers as follows : Bros . Longland , S . W . ; H . Webb .

The Worshipful Master in proposing the toast of "The Installing Master , " paid a complimentary tribute to the efficient manner in which the ceremony had becn performed , and also remarked upon the services rendered by Bro . Jefferd , P . M ., to the lodge throughout his Masonic career . He hoped that the authorities of the Prov . Grand Lod"e would soon confer provincial honours upon him in

recognition of his eminent services and Masonic skill . Bro . Jefferd returned thanks in a suitable manner , and expressed his pleasure that his services had been appreciated , that he felt well rewarded by the knowledge that he had given satisfaction to the brethren . Bro . Sir John Monckton , who made a few remarks about them .

Ballot was then taken for Mr . H . Charles Richards , Member of the London School Board , City division , which also proved unanimous , and the candidate was introduced tothe lodge and regularly initiated , Bro . Wildey Wright did think , and promised to invest Bro . Scott with a collar on the

recognition of his eminent services and Masonic skill . Bro .
