The next item in the programme svas not unmingled with regret . It vvas entrusted to Bro . Shapland to propose the

health of a brother about to leave England . He said : The toast I have to offer you is not upon the list , but it svill be received by enthusiasm , especially by the members of our own lodge . It is the health of a brother vve very much respect , and though initiated not so very long ago was already placed on the ladder of office , and svhom sve had hoped to see eventually in the chair of this lodge .

Unfortunately his health has broken down , and he has to take his departure to the other end of the world—to New Zealand—where vve wish him God-speed and the blessings of health , wealth , and long life . We look forsvard to the time vvhen the subject of this toast , our dearly respected Bro . Bramald , will return to the old country and again take office in his mother lodge .

Bro . Bramald , vvho vvas surprised and visibly affected , said he felt these leave-takings very deeply . He had to go to a distant land svhere he knew not a soul , and one of his greatest comforts svas that he vvas going to the colony a Freemason , and that he should meet the loving greetings of Masons in the far-off land . He svas grateful to the brethren for the loving kindness and sympathy they had extended to

him in the hour of sickness , and memories of kindly affection , pleasant evenings , and happy Masonic instructions would continue to dsvell in memory though thousands of miles asvay . He vvas glad to say that he vvas a better man than before he vvas made a Mason , and he assured them he should often think of them and that Iodge , and he hoped that Heaven's blessing might rest upon them .

The ceremony vvas admirably svorked by all the officers , and at its conclusion Comp . VV . J . Hughan , P . Z ., P . A . G . Soj . England , very kindly gave a most interesting lecture on " The Origin and History of the Royal Arch Degree . " The distinguished companion

prefaced his remarks by a very gratifying comment on the work of the M . E . Z . and his officers , especially the acting P . S ., " a svorking , " said he , " svhich is often neglected to the great detriment of the ceremony . " He then proceeded in his usual lucid and graphic manner to sketch the rise and earliest minutes of the Degree , illustrating his remarks svith photographs , engravings , and a most interesting and

curious old Arch apron , and touching on various collateral subjects svith a special view to the interest and instruction of Bro . Malczovich , svho has come to England to pursue his Masonic researches , and receive certain Degrees not svorked there . Comp . Hughan concluded his remarks vvith a flattering encomium on Bro . Malczovich ' s intelligent and well-directed Masonic zeal , and

expressed a hope that he might one day be the founder of a Grand Royal Arch Chapter for Hungary , so that the brethren there might be able to receive that completion of the Master ' s Degree svithout svhich their knosvledge must alsvays be imperfect . Comp . Hallett proposed , and Comp . Maye seconded , a svarm vote of thanks to Comp . Hughan for his kindness in honouring the chapter by coming to

lecture to the companions , and expressed the deep interest in the valuable information imparted , svhich all had felt svho listened to it . This vvas carried by acclamation , and Comp . Hughan having returned thanks , kindly answered a number of questions put to him by various companions . The M . E . Z . then tendered a warm welcome to the nesvly-exalted Comp . Malczovich on that , his first Masonic visit to England , and

asked him to accept from the companions of the chapter theapron and sash vvith vvhich he had been invested . Comp . Malczovich suitably acknowledged the compliment , and thanked the companions for receiving him amongst them , and also Comp . Hughan for the honour he had done him in coming from Torquay to lecture on the occasion of his exaltation . The chapter svas then closed .

They had Masonry at heart , and the Grand

Grand Officers , Present and Past . " He did not knosv why he should be singled out , except as an old friend of the W . M . He had been delighted to be present that evening to see Bro .

Edmonds installed , for he gave that brother his first collar in Masonry . The name of the W . M . vvas a household word in Freemasonry , and the way he performed the ceremony augured well for the good of the lodge . He wished to say how much he appreciated the efforts of Bro . Vincent in the discharge of his duties . He begged to thank the AV . M . and

brethren very heartily and sincerely for the kind way the toast had been proposed and received . Bro . Grist , I . P . M ., briefly proposed "The W . M ., " remarking that he had had the pleasure of listening to Bro . Edmonds' working in a lodge of instruction , and therefore knesv the ability vvith vvhich he could perform the various

. Bro . T . C . Edmonds , AV . M ,, in reply , said he vvas delighted to have arrived at the height of his ambition , vvhich vvas to be the Master of that lodge . He had been a long svhile svorking up , and felt it a great honour to preside over so celebrated a lodge . He had belonged to it for many years , and he hoped the same feeling of unanimity

vvhich had existed during that time vvould prevail in the future . He vvas rather disappointed that there were but three candidates that evening , but he svas thoroughly acquainted svith those he had advanced , and svas sure they would make good Mark Masons . Bro . J . Grist , I . P . M ., thanked the W . M . for the kind terms in svhich he had proposed " The I . P . M ., " and also

thanked the brethren for the jesvel presented to him that evening . He considered that gift as a great mark of respect , and as long as he lived he should feel it as such . "The Advancees" svas next given in cordial terms from the chair , aud duly responded to . Bro . Pulman , P . M ., Sec , on behalf of " The Past Masters " returned thanks . He said it svas 20 years since

that lodge svas brought into existence , and although he was not present at the consecration he attended the first meeting aftersvards . Mark Masonry did not then hold its . present high position and it was difficult to fill the offices of the lodge , but Bro . Poore came in , and he had done morefor Mark Masonry than any other brother . Bro . Vincent also assisted Bro . Poore and svas alsvays ready to give

assistance . Bro . Geo . Gregory , S . W ., replied for "The Officers . " He had had the honour of following the W . M . through every office , and from the spirit of emulation infused by that brother , the svork had been carried out most efficiently . He congratulated the VV . M . on reaching the proud position of the chair , for he had been working many years for it . He hoped the officers would svork svith harmony and continue to maintain the position of the lodge . The Tyler ' s toast then closed the proceedings .
