THE APPROACHING SCHOOL ELECTIONS .

The autumn Girls School Election will take place at the Quarterly General Court of Governors and Subscribers , which Avill be held in the Great Hall of Freemasons' Tavern on Thursday , the Sth October . As already announced , the number of vacancies to be filled is 18 , and the number of approved

candidates 26 , and as there are only three of the latter remaining over from the election in April , the bulk of the candidates will start level . London furnishes seven , and has an interest jointly Avith three Provinces in an eighth , while the Provinces and a military lodge furnish the remaining 18 cases . The

London girls are No . 1 , who has been before the voters for three and a half years , and has 315 votes to her credit from her six previous attempts ; No . 3 , who made her first essay in April and has 3 8 3 votes in hand ; and Nos . 7 , g , i 8 , 2 i , and 25 , The part-London , part-Provincial candidate

is No . 22 , whose father s professional appointments as a surgeon appear to have taken him from Warwickshire into Lincolnshire , into Bedfordshire , and finally into the Metropolitan district . Of these eight children No . 1 , who enjoys the advantage of having upwards of 300 votes in hand , is a last case and will have her

name removed from the list if she fails to obtain a place on this occasion . Of the 17 Provincial candidates , Gloucestershire , Middlesex , and West Yorkshire furnish tAvo each , the Gloucestershire cases being Nos . 10 and 16 ; the Middlesex , Nos . 6 and 11 ; and the West Yorkshire No . 2—Avith 70 votes to her credit from five

previous attempts—and No . 15 . The 11 Provinces of Derbyshire , Dorsetshire , Essex , Hants and the Isle of Wight , Kent , Lincolnshire , Monmouthshire , Somersetshire , South Wales ( East Division ) , Suffolk , and Wanvickshire send each one candidate , and No . 24 hails from the lodge attached to the 2 nd Battalion

ist Royals , four of the Provincial section being last cases , namely , No . 2 ( West Yorkshire ) , No . 10 ( Gloucestershire ) , No . 13 ( Essex ) , and No . 19 ( Warwickshire ) . As these four girls and No . 1 , already referred to among the London candidates , will have their names removed from the list in the event of their

failing to secure vacancies at this election , Ave trust their friends and supporters will exert themselves to the utmost , and that Governors and Subscribers who are not already pledged to the support of particular candidates will give them the benefit of their votes and influence .

The Boys' School Election will take place at the Quarterly General Court on Friday , the gth October , in the same hall of the Freemasons' Tavern , the number of vacancies to be filled being 19 , and the number of approved candidates 37 . In this case the number of boys remaining over from the April election

is considerable , and there are six Avhose names will be removed from the list if they fail at this attempt . We , therefore , as in the case of the girls who are similarly situated , most earnestly impress upon the friends and supporters of the children to use all possible ( exertions to secure their election , and we trust that those Governors and Subscribers whose votes

are not already promised , will give one or more of these six the benefit of their support and influence , so that none who have been found \ A orthy of admission into the Institution may be disappointed . As regards distribution , London furnishes 12 candidates and has a part interest in the success

of two others , the 12 , pure and simple , being No . 8 , with 375 votes in hand , and No . g , with 1375 votes from the elections in April and October last ; No . 12 , with 465 votes , and No . 15 , with 219 votes from the April election ; and Nos . 17 , 21 , 23 , 24 , 2 ^> 31 , 32 , and 37 which are new cases . No . 14 with claims on

, , London and Surrey , has 1508 to his credit , and No . 27 ( new case ) hails from Middlesex and London . The remaining 23 boys are from the Provinces and Districts abroad , Kent heading the list with three candidates , namel y . No . 13 , Avho brings forward

The following contribute each a single candidate , namely : Demerara ( No . 28 ) , Devon and Cornwall ( No . 34 ) , East Lancashire and Derbyshire ( No . 35 ) , Essex ( No .

33 ) , Herefordshire ( No . io ) , Lincolnshire ( No . 20 ) , Somerset and Devon ( No . 1 , with 347 votes to his credit ) , South Wales , East Division ( No . 3 6 ) , Sussex ( No . 6 , with 428 votes brought forward ) , and Worcestershire ( No . 30 ) . The six last cases are

No . 1 ( Somerset and Devon ) , No . 4 ( Madras ) , No . 5 ( Cumberland and Westmorland ) , and Nos . 8 , 17 , and 32 ( London ) , this being the ninth attempt of No . 1 , the sixth of No . 4 , and the fifth of No . 5 .

It remains for us to add that in the case of both lists of candidates the majority of the children are fatherless , there being one girl and four boys who have both parents living , Avhile two of the girls have lost both parents , and another is dependent on her stepmother . As regards eight of the 26 girls and 14 of

the 37 boys , their fathers , when living , supported the Institutions either by contributions from their own pockets or by acting as Festival Stewards , the father of one of the girls , besides having qualified as Life Governor of two of them and Vice-Patron of the third , having served as many as 12

Stewardships , while the father of one of the boys possessed similar qualifications , and had served eight SteAvardships . It should be stated likeAvise that at both Quarterly Courts the chair will be taken at 12 noon , and that at both the poll will be opened at 1 p . m ., or immediately the regular business of the Court has been completed , and close at 3 p . m . punctually .

Provincial Grand Lodge Of Worcestershire.

PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF WORCESTERSHIRE .

The annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Worcestershire vvas held at Tenbury on Wednesday , the 16 th inst ., under the banner of St . Michael ' s Lodge , No . 1097 , Avhich is held in that town . The proceedings took place in the Corn Exchange , a stuffy and ill-adapted building , unfortunately , however , the only available one in the town . The attendance

of brethren belonging to the 13 lodges vvhich are comprised in the province Avas somewhat larger than usual , a circumstance brought about by the consecration of the Gordon Lodge , at Oldbury , since the last meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge . On the arrival of the brethren in Tenbury , they were conducted to the Pump Rooms , where they were entertained at luncheon by the brethren of St . Michael's Lodge .

Previous to the opening of the lodge , a meeting of the Committee of the Western Provinces Charities Organisation was held under the presidency of the Provincial Grand Master , Bro . Sir Edmund Anthony Harley

Lechmere , Bart ., M . P ., who was supported by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . A . F . Godson , M . P ., Bro . E . J . Chambers , Provincial Charity Secretary , and among others , Bros . Mason and McLeod , the Secretary and Collector of the Boys' School .

The CHARITY SECRETARY reported that over 400 guineas had been subscribed in the province during the year in aid of the various Charities . Several deserving cases of distress were brought before the Committee , and candidates adopted for the Charitable Institutions in proper order . It was resolved on the suggestion of the Provincial Charities Secretary to appoint an Assistant Secretary .

The Worshipful Master and officers of St . Michael ' s Lodge opened Craft lodge shortly after noon , the Provincial Grand Master and the officers of Provincial Grand Lodge , both Present and Past , assembling meanwhile and clothing at the Pump Rooms , from whence they marched in procession

to the Corn Exchange at one o ' clock . The Prov Grand Master and the officers of Prov . Grand Lodge having been announced , vvere admitted , and in virtue of their rank took the various chairs of the lodge . Prov . Grand Lodge having been opened , the brethren saluted them with Grand honours according to their rank .

The muster roll of lodges was called over , when it was found that 158 brethren were present representing the lodges of the province , made up as follows : Harmonic , No . 252 , Dudley , 30 ; Worcester , No . 280 , Worcester , 7 ; Hope and Charity , No . 377 , Kidderminster , 8 ; Royal Standard , No . 49 8 , Dudley , n ; Semper Fidelis , No . 529 , Worcester ; Vernon , No . 560 ,
