The Piincess of Wales has consented lo open Bleyton ' s Industrial Dwellings , Chatham-avenue , Nilestreet , Hoxton , in the afternoon of Monday , the 5 th July prox . The Prince of Wales has consented lo become the President of the Royal Commission in London for the South Australian Jubilee Exhibition to be held in Adelaide next year .

Bro . W . A . Burdett-Coutts , M . P ., will preside at the 49 th Anniversary Festival , next month , of the Benevolent Institution for the Relief of Aged and Infirm Journeymen Tailors . On April 28 th , the ceremony of consecrating the first Grand Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons in South Australia was performed at the Freemasons' Hall , Adelaide , with great success by Bro . S . f . Way , Grand Master .

The following dinners take place at the Freemasons' Tavern for the week ending Saturday , the igth inst .: —Tuesday—University Chapter . Thursday—Air . Alerrion's Ball ; Commissariat and Transport Staff Dine .

Bros . T . F . Halsey , M . P ., Abel Smith , M . P ., Baron Dimsdale , M . P ., and W . T . Marriott , Q . C , Al . P ., were among those present at the political gathering held at Hatfield House , on Saturday last , under the auspices of the Alarquis of Salisbury .

Bro . Alderman and Sheriff Evans will preside at the examination in connection with the Warehousemen and Clerks' Schools , Russell-hill , Caterham Junction , and Airs . Evans will distribute the prizes to the successful pupils on Saturday , the 3 rd July prox . The installation meeting of the Chiswick Mark Lodge , No . 357 , will take place at the Star and Garter , Kew-bridge , to-morrow ( Saturday ) , when Bro . Gardiner , who is W . Al . of the Chiswick Craft Lodge , will be installed in the chair of A ., the ceremony being performed bv Bro .

J . L . Mather . Bro . General Lord Wolseley visited Oxford on Saturday last for the purpose of inspecting the students of the Military College , and expressed himself satisfied wilh the evidence furnished of their efficient training . At the lunch which followed the inspection his lordship ' s health was drunk with much enthusiasm .

On Monday next , the 21 st inst ., the first stone of the new Tower Bridge will be laid by the Prince of VVales as the representative of her Alajesty . Bro . the Lord Alayor , Bros , the Sheriffs , and a number of civic dignitaries will be present at the ceremony , which will be of an unusually imposing character .

Bros , ihe Lord Mayor and Aldermen Sir J . W . Ellis , Bart ., ALP ., Sir R . N . Fowler , Bart ., M . P ., and Sir R . Hanson are among those who have tendered their services as Stewards at the festival which will be held at the Langham Hotel , on Wednesday next , the 23 rd inst ., in aid of the North London Hospital for Consumption .

ihe Princess Louise and Bro . General Lord Wolseley were present in the Conference Room of the Indian and Colonial Exhibition one day last week , and bade farewell to a contingent about to sail for South Africa , for the purpose of founding a settlement on teetotal principles , which it is proposed to call the Wolseley Settlement .

Excellent arrangements are being made for Ihe grand ceremony at the East-end of London on Monday , the 2 Sth inst ., when the Prince and Princess of Wales will be present at the laying of the first stone of the People's Palace , about to be creeled through the efforts of the

Beaumont Trustees . The Uuke of Westminster , who had already given £ 1000 towards the project , has presented a further donation of £ 3000 , and another sum of £ 600 has been received towards the purchase of books for the Palace Library .

At the regular meeting of Victoria Chapter of R . A . Alasons held on Friday evening , the 30 th April , at the Masonic Hall , Zetland-street , Hung-Kong , Comp . C . L . Gorham was presented with a jewel in recognition of the eminent services he rendered to the chapter during the year he occupied the chair . The presentation was made

on behalf of the chapter by Comp . W . AI . B . Arthur , who alluded to the success which had attended the working of the chapter under the presidency of Comp . Gorham . The latter , in acknowledging the gilt , expressed his thanks to the companions and his wishes for the continuance of the prosperity of the chapter .

Bro . Alderman Sir R , Hanson has contributed £ 25 to the London Athletic Club Donation Fund . Bro . A . J . Allman , C . C . ( Messrs . Fellham and Co . ) , has supplied a magnificent set of croquet to Her Majesty the Queen of Servia . Bro . Under-sheriff Rose-lnnes and Mrs . Rose-Innes were present at the Lady Alayoress's reception at the Mansion House on Tuesday .

Bro . G . Vickery , 18 , Addle-street , is the architect for the spacious warehouse now being built in Barbican , adjoining Bro . H . Rymill ' s well-known horse repository . Bro . the Earl and Counless of Carnarvon enlertaiged a large gathering of the visitors now in England from our Colonies and India , at their seat , Higbclere Castle , on Wednesday .

On Thursday next , the 24 th inst ., Bro . the Lord Mayor will open the Corporation Fine Art Gallery , though the public will not be admitted till the following Wednesday , the 30 th inst . Bro . the Duke of Abercorn , G . M . of Ireland , has accepted the presidency of the National Conservative Club , Pall , and will preside at the first house dinner on Wednesday , the 7 th July prox .

Bro . J . D . Allcroft , P . G . Treasurer , and Treasurer of Christ's Hospital , will distribute the prizes to the successful scholars at the Commercial Travellers ' Schools ( to-morrow ) Saturday . We must congratulate Bro . W . Nicholas , Secretary of the Earlswood Asylum , on the recent marriage of his eldest daughter , Aliss Alice Al . Nicholas , to Al . Narcisse Deguine , second son of M . C . Deguine .

So great has been the demand for Messrs . Cassell's new serial , "The Life and Times of Queen Victoria , " that , although an exceptionally large edition of Part I was prepared , the copies were all exhausted within a few days of publication . Bro . H . Irving has arranged to give morning performances of " Faust" on Saturdays , the 3 rd , ioth , 17 th , ar . d 24 th July , on which days the theatre will be

closed in the evening . The season will close on the 31 st prox ., and will re-open with " Faust , " after a six weeks ' holiday , on Saturday , the 4 th September . VVe have much pleasure in announcing that Bro . the Lord Chancellor has appointed Bro . Matthew R . Webb , of the firm of M . Webb and Sons , Barbicanchambers , Aldersgate-street , to be Reeistrarof the Whitechapel County Court . The appointment , however , will not

interfere with Bro . Webb ' s private practice as a solicitor . Bro . Baron H . de Worms , M . P ., who represented Greenwich in the last Parliament , was entertained at a complimentary banquet at the King William the Fourth Hotel , Greenwich , on Wednesday , the opportunity being also taken to present him with a massive silver and gold bowl and flowerstand , suitabl y inscribed , in recognition of his services to the borough during the period from 1 SS 0 to 1 SS 6 .

We regret that the list handed to our reporter of the brethren appointed Prov . G . Officers of Aliddlesex , at the annual meeting of Prov . G . Lodge at Twickenham , on the 5 th inst ., should have been short of the full complement by two , but the omission was none of ours though we have very great pleasure in correcting it . The omitted names were those of Bros . E . Gilbert , Prov . G . Purst ., and VV . S . Dunkley , P . Asst . G . Purst . ; while one of the P . G . Stewards , who was described as Bro . VV . Trow , 1570 ,

should have figured as Bro . W . Iron , 1579 . "Mistress June , " the summer number of " Cassell's Magazine , " which will be published on the 25 th inst ,, takes its title from thc leading story which occupies the greater part of it . The number includes also an account of a co-operative holiday on the Continent , and papers on pocket refreshments , dress for travelling , and hints for the prevention and cure of sea sickness . We regret that an error crept into the report in our last number of the meeting cf the Quatuor Coronati Lodge , No . 2076 . Our distinguished Bro . Thomas Hayter Lewis — not " Cross , " as stated — who was then elected a joining member , should have been described as " Emeritus Professor of Architecture . "

It appears from the statement made by Grand Master Lawrence at the Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge of New York on Tuesday , the ist inst ., that during last year 73 , 000 dollars had been subscribed towards cancelling and 100 , 000 dollars cancelled from the debt on the Masonic Hall , New York .

GAS VERSUS COAL . —Mr . Leoni has been instructed by the St . George ' s Hospital , Hyde Park-corner , to lit up his Gas and Steam Cooking Apparatus to cook for 500 persons ; also by the City of London Hospital for Diseases of the Chest , Victoria-park , E ., to fix his patent Gas Hot Tables for the use of their wards . He has further received instructions from the Glasgow Poorhouse to fix there his patent Disinfecting Chamber for disinfecting bedding , clothes , & c , by Gas .

The Prince of Wales was driven over from Harewood Lodge , Sunningdale , to Windsor by Bro . the Earl of Fife on Saturday last , and , having unveiled a new organ in Holy Trinity Church , lunched with the officers of the ist Life Guards at the Spital Barracks , the Princess of VVales being also of the party . Subsequently their Koyal Highnesses , with thc Duke and Duchess of

Connaught and other members of the Royal Family , witnessed the cricket match between the Garrison of Windsor and I . Zingara , and a polo match , afterwards dining at the Fishery Cottage , Virginia Water , and , returning to Harewood Lodge . On Monday the Prince and Princess returned to Alarlborough House . The remains of the late Bro . James Bell , for

many years proprietor of the Crown Vaults , 120 , Park-road , Liverpool , were interred in Smithdown Cemetery on the 6 th inst . Among the relatives and friends present were Messrs . VV . It is mentioned in the news columns of the Freemasons' Repository for last month that at the annual meeting of the Grand Lodge of Maine , on the 4 th ult ., a Bro . Oliver Gerrish was present and took part in the proceedings , notwithstanding the fact of his being in the 91 st year of his age . It is also stated that at the annual gathering of the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island a nonagenarian and two octogenarians were present , the former a Bro .

Benedict-Aldiich , P . AI . of No . 7 , being 94 years of age , and an initiate of llie year 1 S 12 , and the two Bros . Oliver Johnson and James Hutchinson , both Past Grand Masters , and both considerably more than So years old . The Philadelphia Keystone mentions a somewhat similar case of Bro . Judge VVm . Donaldson , P . AL , who is nearly 87 years of age , and was present at the Quarterly Communication o £ the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania on Wednesday , the 2 nd inst .
