He then proposed " The Installing Master . " Bro . F . Smith , I . P . M ., replied , and Bro . Foskett and others answered for "The Visitors . "

Ordnance Lodge , No . 2399 . The above lodge is a happy mixture of military and civil brethren , being originally founded for the purposes of the Ordnance soldiers , chiefly Army Service Corps , and the storeholders and principal employes of the Ordnance departments of H . M . ' s ^ Government . Lately civilians have been admitted at full rates , and the consequence is a really strong , sound , and progressive lodge . The installation of the W . M . and investiture of officers took place on Friday , the nth instant , at Freemasons' Hall , Mount Pleasant ,

Plumstead , and so well was the work cariied out , and the arrangements for the happiness and comfort of the brethren perfected , that it was simply a pleasant and gratifying function from first to last . Bro . J . Wheatley , W . M ., opened the lodge , and as soon as the preliminary work had been rendered , vacated the chair in favour of Bro . John Bilton , P . M ., who , as Installing Officer , at once proceeded with his onerous and important duty , and installed Bro . R . Rawlinson , S . W ., W . M . elect , into the chair of K . S . The W . Bilton concluded his portion of the work by giving the usual addresses in an eloquent and effective manner . The LP . M . was presented with a handsome and valuable Past Master ' s jewel and also with his collar and appendage , for which he returned his hearty thanks . Bro . Bilton was awarded a hearty vote of thanks for his excellent services as Installing Officer , and then the Iod * Ee was closed .

The banquet was served in the fine assembly room of the establishment , and was a very nice one . The platform was prettily decorated with shrubs and flowers , and a portion of the Royal Artillery band , under Band Sergt . Parsons , performed selections during the dinner . Amongst the other brethren present were : Bros . Capt . G . Spinks , P . M ., P . P . G . S . W . Kent , G . Dyer , P . M ., C . Jolly , P . M . ( Hon . ) , P . M . and Sec , 1472 , P . In giving the toast of " H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , M . W . Grand Master of the Order , " Bro . Ronaldson spoke sympathetically ofthe dastardly attack made upon his Royal Highness in Brussels , and said it had evoked not only through England , but throughout the world such a feeling of 1 espe ct , loyalty , and admiration , -for our Grand Master , that must have been gratifying and consolatory to his august mother , his wife , and his family . He asked them to drink the toast as Masons and Englishmen , and " God save the Prince of Wales . "

Bro . Wheatley , in proposing , ( he toast of " The W . M ., " congratulated Bro . Ronaldson at having achieved the distinction of Master of such a lodge , and the lodge upon such a Master . Bro . Ronaldson was quite prepared to carry out the duties of his important trust . He had been an excellent officer in the minor offices he had filled , and they were qu te prepared to find that his year of office would be an honour to himself , and a benefit to the lodge . Bro . Ronaldson , in reply , said they had given him a difficult task to attempt to do justice to the kind words of Bro . Wheatley , and their generous acceptance of the toast

of his health- He should endeavour to d 0 his duty to their satisfacti on . and in accordance with the landmarks , and ancient ceremonies of the Order . He should not introduce any innovations in the ritual , nor allow any . The old ritual had stood for many years , and was good enough for him to stand by . For himielf he thanked them most cordiilly for their great kindness to him ever since he wis a member , but above all he thanked them for placing him in the proud posit ! in he occuoied th it day , and they might depend upon his doing all in his power to prove himself worthy of their confidence , and

to maintain the honour and progress of the lodge . Bro . Bilton , in response to a hearty eulogium pronounced upon him by the W . M . in proposing his health as Installing Officer , said it had been a very pleasing duty for him to instal Bro . Ronaldson . He hid the honour of initiating their W . M , into Masonry , and he said then that time would show that in the person of Bro . Ronaldson thty had a brother that would mike his mirk amongst them . The only thing no * wanted was to make their W . M . ' s year a happy and prosperous one by cordially

supporting hira in'the chair , by constant attendance when practicable , and by introducing good and true men into Masonry under his auspices . So far as his ( Bro . Bi'ton ' s ) office as Installing Master was concerned , he might remind them that it was a difficult : task to fi I to the satisfaction of every one . It was an office that might fall to a brother once or twice during his Masonic career . He had had the honour of installing three or four Masters , which was a record for him at least . Now , if he had performed the ceremony to their satisfaction he was very glad of it , and he thanked them kindly for their

appreciation of his services and reception of the toast . Bro . Capt . George Spinks , P . M ., the doyen of the lodge , in responding for " The Past Masters , " in the course of an eloquent speech , more particularly dwelt upon the splendid work lately done in the district in the cause of the Charities , and more especially for the B > ys and Girls . At the Provincial Charity meeting of the Province of Kent he had spoken for the case of both the children of the late Bro . Curtis , and the Committee had kindly given some 3000 votes in the case of the boy Benjamin , and 500 for the girl

Dorothy , both of whom , he was glad to say , were successful on three applications . Then *>& ain , the had been able to succeed in the case of a boy of the late Bra . Shipmin , of the Ubique Ludge . It showed them that although the Past Masters hid nothing to say lor lhen . ; elv < s , they were able to help in doing good to those who required and deserved it-. It was not the storm that brought out the green leaves ; it wa * the constant dripping on the stone that wore it away , and so it was by the silent and quiet working of the Part Masters that the permanent success and progress of a lodge was achieved and Perpetuated .

Bros . Dyer , Bilton , Wheatley , and Jolly also responded . Bros . J acobs , Syer , Taylor , Ross , and others responded for " The Visitors , " and after " The Officers , " "The Treasurer , " and the Tyler ' s toasts , the proceedings , which were most pleasant and enjoyable , came to an end . The musical portion ot the evening was contributed to by Miss Ethel Ashdown , a wonderful player on the violin ; Miss Jean Hunter , who sang splendidly , her articulation being perfect ; Messrs . W . Bamforth , S . Gregory , Phil Payne , Bro . Parsons , who is the king of euphonium players , and the Vernham Male Quartette , who sang several glees and part songs admirably .

Manchester Lodge , No . 2554 . , The regular meeting of this flourishing lodge was held at Freemasons' Hall , Manchester , on Friday , the nth instant . After " Hearty good wishes" from the visiting brethren , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the social board , where the usual loyal and Masonic toasts Were given and responded to . Bro . W , B . Akerman , P . M ., P . P . A . G . D . C , in proposing "The Health of the newly-raised Bro . Charles Neufeld , " spoke of the very high esteem in which he was held by all the brethren of the Manchester Lodge , and , as a small token of that same esteem , it was his verv oleasiner dutv to present to him his M . M . ' s apron and case , and

trusted that he would live a very long time to wear it . The apron was mounted with beautiful silver tassels and the box was of calf skin and bore the following inscription : " Presented by the brethren of the Manchester Lodge , No .-2554 , as a mark of their esteem . May nth , 1900 . " Bro . Neufeld in a long and interesting speech responded to the toast and said he thanked the brethren from his heart for the very nice present they had made him , and he felt proud that he had earned their esteem , and prouder still that they had done him

the honour of making him a brother in their lodge . He assured them he would always think of this night with the greatest amount of pleasure . The following brethren were present : Bros . A . C . K . Bro , R . S . Chandler , I . P . M ., submitted the toast of "The W . M ., " and said all were deligh'ed to see Bro . Roehrich occupying the position . From the first day their W . M . came amongst them as one of the founders , he had shown deep interest in the welfare of the lodge by many generous gifts , and that evening he had presented them with a banner on which would be inscribed the names of the W . Ms . There was another thing which endeared the W . M . to the members and that was his generosity to the three Masonic Institutions , for he was Patron of the Boys' School , and Vice-Patron of

the Girls' School and Benevolent Institution . They hoped the W . M . 's year would be a prosperous one , and it would be the endeavour of all the members to make it a happy and enjoyable one . Bro . E . Roehrich , W . M ., in reply , thanked the LP . M . and brethren . He did not deserve the kind things said of him , but as long as he remained a member he would do his very best to make the lodge prosperous , and he was convinced it would be a great lodge . They began well with Bro C . E , Keyser for the first Master , and were now a successful lodge . During the coming year he ( the _ W . M . ) wou'd keep the standard of the lodge up , and although English was not his native tongue , he would no his best .

The W . M . then gave " The Installing Master , " and said it was extremely difficult to follow such an excellent worker as Bro . Chandler , who deserved every credit for his performance that evening . In presenting Bro . Chandler with a Past Master ' s jewel he knew that that brother , as an Old Masonian , would nevei forget his year of office as W . M . of the lodge . Bro . R . S . Chandler , I . P . M ., expressed his pleasure and pride at having been W . M . of that lodge . As a Past Master it would be his duty and pleasure to assist as far as possible in this lodge , which was so closely allied to the School .

Bro . J . M . McLeod , Sec . R . M . L for Boys , responded for "The R . M . L for Boys and the other Masonic Institutions . " " The Visitors" and other toasts followed . Bro . F . Swinford , P . P .

" Bro .
