M . 1669 , having been presented as W . M . elect , was impressively installed into the chair by the retiring W . M ., Bro . Davis . The following officers were appointed and invested : Bros . T . Installing Master , Bro . C . W . Davis , I . P . M . TheW . M ., in presenting a P . M . ' s jewel ( manufactured by Bro . George Kenning ) , to Bro . Davis , I . P . M ., icmarked that from the able manner in which he had conducted the duties of ihe chair during the past year , the members would agree that it was but a small recognition of his efficient services . It afforded him considerable pleasure
to make the presentation , and he congratulated Bro . Davis on the termination of a successful year of office . Bro . Davis , I . P . M ., thanked the members for the honour conferred upon him by the presentation of the jewel . It had been his ambition to attain the chair of his mother Iodge , but he thought that the small amount of work scarcely merited that mark of their recognition .
The Audit repot t was received and adopted , and , other business having been transacted , the lodge was closed . The brethren—a large proportion of whom wore the uniform of their respective corps—subsequently partook of an excellent banquet , at the conclusion of which the usual toast list received the customary honours . Bro . Davis , I . P . M ., said it was his privilege to assume
the gavel , and ask the brethren to drink " The Health of the W . M ., " and in doing so he must congratulate the lodge on having elected such a W . M . as Bro . Cranch to fill the chair . _ He had known their W . M . for many years in the lodge , in the corps , and as a friend , and he could confidently say that the members could not have selected a better man for the office . Bro . Cranch , W . M ., was well versed in
Masonry , and well able to carry out the duties of the chair . Bro . A . R . Cranch , W . M ., returned thanks for the kindly proposition and reception of the toast . He would exert his utmost to do his best for the lodge , and hoped he should have the co-operation and support of all the officers invested that evening . The working had always been
Derformed creditably since he had known the lodge , and there was no doubt it would be carried out in the same manner under the present officers . They had always had a good name for working , which he hoped would be maintained . Bro . Ratcliff Steel , P . G . Stwd ., in responding for "The Visitors , " said he was at a loss to know why the W . M . had been kind enough to call upon him to return thanks
when therewere several brethren present who were hisseniors in Masonry . At the same time he accepted the position as a great honour , more especially as he was once a member of the lodge , and for many years a member of the Corps and of the same Company—No . 7- as that to which the two Wardens now belong , lt gave him exceedingl y great pleasure to be present , for he had attended their installation meetings for the last six or seven years , and was pleased to be with old
again so many friends . He had not yet attained the honour of the chair , but he hoped that next year his lodge would honour him as the W . M . had been honoured that evening . He should then feel he had arrived at _ the proudest position he could attain , and should esteem it an honour to be able to visit them in that capacity . It was not necessary for him to say more than to thank them for the kind hospitality extended to him and the good work he had seen—especially in the working of

the installation ceremony by the I . P . M ., which he had never seen done better . The small part taken by the W . M . gave an earnest of what the members might expect during the forthcoming year , and he wished the W . M . a successful term of offiice . Bro . Jaques , W . M . 1744 , also replied for the visitors . In giving "The Installing Master , " the W . M . said that
the least the members could do was to thank Bro . Davis , I . P . M ., for the able manner in which he had carried out the duties during the past year , and for his excellent rendering of the installatian ceremony . Bro . Davis , I . P . M ., thanked the brethren very sincerely for the cordial manner in which his health had been proposed and received . It had been a great pleasure to him
to have occupied the chair of the Macdonald Lodge , and his only regret was the small amount of work during the past year . He wished to thank his officers for the support he had received , for every W . M . had to depend upon his officers for the well ruling and proper working of the lodge . "The Past Masters" was hext given by the W . M ., who
expressed the pleasure it afforded him to see so many P . M . ' s present . He coupled with the toast the name of Bro . Jas . Stevens , P . M ., who was S . W . when the lodge was consecrated , and when the present Lord Mayor was J-W . Bro . Jas . Stevens , P . M ., said he rose to respond with feelings of regret and pleasure—regret that he had been unable to attend during the past two years , and with a deal
of pleasure to find that after 20 years' existence the lodge was in the same state of vitality as in days gone by . _ The lodge had a good history in the past and would have in the future , for it possessed a good VV . M ., who would lead them on to further efforts . It was no small matter , after 20 years , to have as many as nine brethren rising to respond for the P . M . ' s . The G . A . O . T . U . was to be thanked that
at the same time He spared their lives He had enabled so many to carry out the principles of Masonry in their lodge . Of the 11 founders there were three present that evening , Bros . G . Waterall , P . M ., J . Curtis , and himself , and they were very gratified to see the ledge celebrate its 20 th anniversary . Bro . Lieut .-Col . Irvine , who was the first W . M ., was known to them all for his sei vices to the corps and the
lodge . That brother , who was then a Major in the corps , occupied the position of W . M . for two years . It was an extreme satisfaction to him ( Bro . Stevens ) to know he was the originator of that Iodge , and who would not be proud of the fact ? It was also a gratification to know that after 20 years , but one of the founders had departed from them , and with that exception the whole of the founders are
living . True , their lodge had been larger in numbers , but he trustedjthey had never been better in quality , for the evidence of good work that evening proved that their expectations of 20 years ago had been fulfilled . In all his Masonic experience he had not known any brethren who had satisfied him so well as Bro . Davis , I . P . M ., and the other W . M . 's who had followed Lieut .-Col . Irvine—one of
the finest exemplars of ritual , and a brother who well knew how to deliver it . It was the bounden duty of all the officers to keep up the reputation of the Iodge , which , he hoped , would last for many years to come . He trusted he might have the pleasure of meeting them on future occasions , and that he should be able to say the work had been performed so that no other lodge could say a word against
it . Bro , Waterall , P . M ., also replied . "The Officers " having been given , the Tyler's toast closed the proceedings . An excellent programme of music was admirably rendered , under the direction of Bro . Hill , Org ., assisted by Bros . Weston , Symons , Brown , and Heath , in which the W . M . also took part .
ISLINGTON LODGE ( No . 1471 ) . —An emergency meeting of this lodge was held on Thursday , the ioth instant , at the Cock Tavern , Highbury , when the following officers and brethren were present : Bros . I . Petch , W . M . ; H . Hunt , S . W . ; S . Napper , J . W . ; E . Blinkhorn , P . M ., Sec ; C M . Coxon , D . Cacting as

C HalestraD , P . M . ; VV . Shurmur , P . M . ; F . Simmonds , D . C . Ritchie , C . Hiller , and others ; also Bros . VV . Ball , P . M . ; and Holborow , visitors .
The lodge having been opened , Bro . Bridgwater was passed to the Degree of F . C , and Bros . Hiller and Gravatt were raised to the Sublime Degree of M . M . The next business on the agenda was the election of a Treasurer , the office having become vacant through the lamented death of Bro . Edgar Bowyer , P . M . Bro . D . P . Holness , P . M ., referring to the circumstance under which the lodge was called
upon to elect a Treasurer for the remainder of the year , said he had a brother to propose , to whom alone he felt sure every member of the Iodge would look as the brother who should be elected to the office , if he would asf ent to take it . He begged to propose that Bro . J . L . Mather , P . A . G . D . C , one of the founders and the first Master of the lodge , be elected Treasurer for the remainder of the year .
ihis was seconded by Bro . Halestrap , P . M ., and a vote , in accordance with the Book of Constitutions , was taken by ballot , which proved unanimously in favour of the proposal . Bro . J . L . Mather accepted the office , and thanked the brethren for the compliment they had paid him . From the founding of the lodge to the present time he had taken an active interest in its welfare , and in the office in which
they had seen fit to appoint him he should do all in his power to increase the prosperity of the Iodge . A Committee was appointed , consisting of the W . M ., Treasurer , Secretary , and the P . M . 's of the Iodge , to consider and report upon an amendment of the by-laws . The business being concluded , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to supper , after which the usual
toasts were given . The W . M ., replying to the toast of his health , said the brethren would no doubt be pleased to hear that his list as Steward for the Girls' Centenary Festival amounted already to £ 115 . He had been well supported bv the
members of the lodge , and most liberally so by a few brethren outside of the lodge , private friends of his own . Other toasts and speeches followed , and the harmony of the evening was promoted by songs by Bros . Bayne , Org . ; Halestrap , P . M . ; Blinkhorn , Sec . ; and Scarlett ; and one of Bro . Tyrrell ' s inimitable recitations .

M ., by the W . M ., who congratulated him on the termination of a successful year of office , and eulogised the
valuable services he had rendered to the lodge . Bro . Homan , I . P . M ., briefly returned thanks , and routine business having been transacted , the lodge was closed . The brethren then adjourned to the Railway House , Highbury , where an excellent banquet was admirably served by Bro . Baker . After dessert the usual toasts were honoured .
Bro . Homan , I . P . M ., said that as their I . P . M . it was his duty to propose " The Health of the W . M . " He did not know whether he could say very much respecting Bro . Heyse as he had only just taken the position of the chair , but he would no doubt make a good W . M . He would ask all the members and officers to cordially support theit W . M . during his year , and thus support their Iodge .
Bro . Heyse , W . M ., returned thanks for the manner in which the toast of his health had been given and received . He knew by the heartiness evinced by the brethren that they meant it in a Masonic manner . The I . P . M . had said he could not say much about him as W . M ., and he had certainly not had the opportunity yet of proving what he could do , but he hoped that when the opportunity arrived
he should prove it to their satisfaction . It would be his aim and object to work in a manner satisfactory to them all , and gain their unanimous approval . If he succeeded in that object it would be the greatest reward to which he should look forward . He again thanked them , one and all , for their kindness . "The Installing Master" was then given by the VV . M .,
who remarked that it was with double pleasure that he submitted this toast . Firstly , there was the pleasure ol being installed , which was something to look forward to and appreciate , and secondly , from the manner in which the ceremony was performed by Bro . Homan , I . P . M . Those brethren who were present and witnessed the installation ceremony , would agree that it was done with perfection ,
He only hoped that when it was his turn to instal his successor he should follow up Bro . Homan ' s worthy example . He would thank the brethren to drink " The Health of the Installing Master" with full hononrs . Bro . R , A . Homan , I . P . M ., in responding to the toast , said that by installing his successor he had simply done his duty to the best of his abitity , he , however , cordially
thanked the brethren for drinking his health as Installihg Master . He had done no more than his predecessors , the P . M . ' s had done before him , and the performance of his duty called for no particular praise . He tendered his sincere thanks for the P . M . 's jewel , which was unanimously voted at the last meeting , and which had been presented on the present occasion . He cordially thanked them for
the gift and for the honour conferred upon him by drinking his health . In proposing " The Visitors , " the W . M . said he did not know if their lodge was especially favoured in the number of their visitors , for the toast always became one of importance . There would not be that brotherly feeling between them if they did not visit other lodges , and every member
was therefore pleased to see as many visitors as possioie . He would thank the members to receive the toast in a nt and proper manner , coupling the names of Bros . Hug hes , VV . M . 179 , and Honiss , 81 , U . S . A . Bros . Hughes , W . M . 179 , and Honiss , 81 , U . S . A ., returned thanks for the kind hospitality extended to tne visitors , and expressed the gratification the excellent
wowing had afforded them . , " The Past Masters " was then given by the W . M ., " » said that , although the number of P . M . to have occupied the chair of the Macdonald Lodge , and his only regret was the small amount of work during the past year .

Thomas , Tyler , The customary addresses were carefully rendered by the Installing Master , Bro . Homan , I . P . M . A handsome P . M . ' s jewel was then presented to Bro . R . A . Homan I . P .
M . ' s increased year oy year , some whom they would wish to see present had unfortunately left them . Every W . M . looked naturally c ° the P . M . 's for support and assistance in his difficulties , ana he was happy to say he could confidently rely on tn P . M . ' s of that lodge to render him all the help tney
could . M ,, Bro . J . Osborn , P . M ., said it was flattering to ' ^ x- | to hear the kindly expressions of the W .
