MASONIC SERVICE AT SWINTON .
Under the auspices of the Egerton Lodge , No . 2216 , a Masonic service was held at Swinton on the afternoon ol Sunday last . Invitations had been issued to all the nei gh . bouring lodges , with the result that neatly 200 brethren assembled at St . Peter ' s Schools , from whence , marshalled by Bro . Williams , P . M . 1 S 14 , P . P . G . Std . Br ., they marched in procession to St . Peter's Church , large crowds Iiningthe
streets . A dispensation to wear Craft clothing had been obtained from Bro . the Rt . Hon . the Eail of Lathom , R . W . P . G . M . The prayers were read by the Rev . H . H , Heywood , vicar , and the lesson by the Rev . F . P . Nash , The swmon was preached by Bro . the Rev . and Hon . Earl ol Mulgrave , Vicar of Worsley and Chaplain of the Woisley Lodge . It was a most admirable and eloquent
discourse , founded on the words "Am I my brother ' s keeper ? " Gen . iv . 9 . A collection was afterwards made on behalf of the Masonic Charities , and realised the sum of £ 16 2 s . id . lt is intended to send a portion , if not the whole , of this to the Girls' School , and it is conlidently expected lhat the Egerton Lodge , which was only cor . seccated in October last , and which now numbers between 20 and 30
brethren , will , before the end of its first year of existence , more than realise the expectations of its founders . The members of that lodge are deeply grateful to all who assisted them on ihe occasion . Many brethren came from long distances to give a helping hand , and special thanks
are due to the Rev . Vicar of Swinton , who , in the kindest manner , did all he could to make everything pass off successfully , to the choir , ringers , and church officers for their kindly services , and to the Rev . and Hon . preacher , whose eloquent words will long be remembered by those who had the privilege cf hearing them .
