He trusted to see every brother of the lodge present , so that his lordship might see for' himself what sort of a lodge the Pattison was . His lordship or . ce said to him " I don't want to lose the Pattison' Lodge , " and he ( Bro . Penfold ) replied " No , my lord , and the Pattison don't want to lose you . " That mutual

good feeling still existed , and he trusted it would as long as the Pattison Lodge existed . He thanked them for the tcast , and resumed his seat amid cheers . The Worshipful Master , in responding for an enthusiastic reception of his health , said he thanked them for the very kind manner in which they had received and drunk the toast , but as they had given him plenty of work that night ,

and as his throat was not in the best of condition , he trusted they would excusehim saying more on the present occasion . He called upon the S . W . to propose the toast of " The Past Masters , " for whom Bros . Palmer and Hayes eloquently responded . The other toasts were "The Initiates , " "The Visitors , "

" The Lay Brethren of the Lodge , " " The Masonic Press , " and the Tyler ' s toast . The fine singing of Bros . Batchelor , Clifton , Lloyd , and others filled up the pauses in the speeches with harmony , and the whole affair was thoroughly enjoyed by all present .

After hearty greetings from all visitors present , the lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to supper . The toast list was proceeded with in a most enthusiastic manner , and each toast most heartily replied to . During the evening the W . M ., Bro . W . O . behalf of the lodge , with a portrait , lt was a £ length portrait , taken upon porcelain , framed , and mounted in gold . It is a splendid work of art and a faithful likeness , and reflects great credit on Bro . Warwick Brookes , the artist . In making the presentation , Bro . Taylor-Evans referred to the length of time Bro . Williamson had been connected

with the lodge , and spoke in terms of the highest commendation of the valuable services which he had rendered to the lodge by his manly and independent effoits on its behalf , and also of the valuable work done by him in the interests of the lodge and of Freemasonry in general during the past few years . He regretted that IV . rs . Williamson was unable to attend to receive the portrait , which it was the custom of

the lodge to present to the wife of every outgoing Master ; but in her absence he could not do better than present the picture to Bro . Williamson on her behalf , and request him to convey to her the sympathy of the lodge , and the hope that for many years to come she might be spared to gaze upon that faithful representation of her husband .

Bro . Williamson , in responding , tendered the Iodge the thanks of his wife and himself for the very charming portrait which it had been their pleasure to present . He said that it had been his intention to give a short resume or history of the lodge , but as that would take rather too long he thought he would defer it until a more fitting occasion . He had spent some of the happiest hours of his

life in the Iodge , and , although he did not require anything to keep his memory fresh , he would always be reminded by that photograph of the bond of kinship which existed between himself and his brethren of the Derby Lodge . He had not been desirous of taking office , but had been compelled to do so by force of circumstances , and having done so he had endeavoured to fulfil his duties with all the energy

he was possessed of . If that had conduced to the welfare of the lodge and comfort of the brethren he felt himself amply repaid , and on behalf of his wife and himself he once more tendered his most hearty thanks for the portrait , and in return begged to present the lodge with a smaller

copy for the purpose of being placed amongst the portraits of the prior Past Masters on the walls of the Iodge . The pleasure of the evening was greatly enhanced by the sweet music discoursed by several popular instrumentalists—indeed , such a treat is rarely to be met with , and it can well be imagined was highly appreciated by all present .

Bro . Alfred Lewtas , I . P . M ., in rising to propose "The Health of the W . M ., " was received with loud and long applause . Bro . Lewtas spoke in high terms of praise of the interest and Kal Bro . Walton had shown when fulfilling the duties of whatever office he had been appointed to , and augured a succes ful future for the Prince Leopold Lodge under his presidency , a capital commencement having been

made that day ivilh initiating three members . In conclusion , Bro . Lewtas said he hoped sincerely the good beginning would continue , and that their VV . M . would have a happy and prosperous year of office . He asked tho brethren to rise and drink heartily to the toast . Bo . Lewtas ' s invitation was promptly responded to , after which Bro . Wm . Dumville sang with his customary

ability and spirit , Here s to his health . " Bro . Walton , in a few well chosen sentences , responded , thanking the brethren for so heartily drinking his health , and Bro . Lewtas for his exceeding kind remarks . He confessed he was not a very eloquent or brilliant speaker , and therefore the brethren must not expect much in that line from him . He would , therefore , lay claim to an earnest

desire and determination to conduct the affairs of his lodge in a manner becoming good Freemasons , and hoped Bro . Lewtas's wish that he might have a prosperous year of office , might be to promote happiness and harmony amongst the _ brethren , and relying on the assistance and support of his officers and Past Masters , would endeavour to give satisfaction to all . It was not so much his desire

to increase the number of members as to get men of the right sort of stuff , and he trusted all who heard the beautiful charges that were given in the lodge from time to time , would take them well to heart , and become better men and Masons , and a credit to the Society to which they belonged . "The Health of the Initiates" was proposed and drank

with much enthusiasm , each brother subsequently responding . Other toasts , including "The I . P . M . and Installing Master , " "The Masonic Charities , " " Visiting Brethren , " and " P . M . ' s and Officers , " were proposed and responded to , and a very enjoyable and long to be remembered evening was spent , the intervals between the toasts being enlivened with some capital glees and songs from Bros , Blacow , W .
