that tley wished he might . He did not mind telling them that he was a few years younger than he was 10 years ago . He thanked them heartily and sincerely for electing him to that high and distinguished position . Ever since he joined the lodge he always had an eye on the chair , and one of the dreams of his Masonic career was to bs W . M . of the Derby Allcroft Lodge . It was no new office for him because this was the fourth chair he had had the honour of filling . He hoped that during his year he should give entire satisfaction to the members and all brethren who came into connection with the
lodge . He loved Masonry , otherwise he should not take so much ttouble in it . He began to think he had a splendid Masonic family . He had only three Masonic boys . One was a P . M . of a lodge , a second was W . M . of a lodge , and the third held the office of I . G . He had , therefore , given hostages to Masonry , and was proud of it . He personally thanked every member of the lodge and also his visitors—43 he believed . He especially thanked Bro . Cummings for his kind words—he was going to say the too bind words—and he would give them the assurance that so far as lay in his power he would to the fullest extent further the interest of the Dsrby Allcroft Lodge .
Bro . C . R . Woolley , answering for the toast of "The Initiate , " said he had two reasons why he was glad to be amongst them that evening . The first was that Bro . Robinson occupied the chair , and the second because he belonged to a church which was built by the founder of this lodge . On behalf of "The Visitors" Bro . E . Barnes , P . M . ( Mayor of St . Pancras ) , replied , and said he recollected the consecration of the lodge . He had that evening met several friends he had not seen for years . If there was anything that appealed to
the heart of every Mason it was to hear the work well done . He did not believe the work could be more perfectly done in any lodge in the world . Not only the W . M ., the Installing Officer , but every officer knew his work , and it was done with a precision that made his heart leap with joy . When he saw that grand old man—the W . M . —in the lodge , and heard him repeating the words of the installation ceremony , he was indeed
g lad to be present . Bro . R . Manuel , P . M ., responded , and said he cou'd say , without exaggeration , that he had never felt greater interest than in seeing the W . M . placed in the chair . Probably their association together elsewhere knit them together , He well remembered when the Treasurer , Bro . W . Thon . as , was installed , and round the table were many members with whom he had been associated for many years . Bro . G . S . Elliott , P . M ., and Dr . Milson Rees , P . M ., also replied .
The W . M . next gave "The Masonic Charities , " and asked the members to suppoit him in his Stewardship , and supplement the 25 guineas so generously voted by the lodge ( o enable him to beat record if he could . Bro . J . M . McLeod , P . G . S . B ., Sec . R . M . I . B ., said the number of boys in the School was 291 , which would be increased by the admission of two boys whose fathers
had died in the service of their country . The W . M . had acted as Steward on many occasions , and the various Masters of this lodge had brought up good lists . Allusion has been made to Bro . Thomas , who took up a record list , and he hoped the W . M . would go one better , and beat it . . Four excellent reasons why the members should endeavour to do this were the four boys in the School , whose fathers had been connected with the lodge .
The I . P . M . acknowledged " The Past Masters , " after which " The Officers " were duly honoured . The programme of music , under the direction of Bros . Dr . Haskins and Jas . Kift , included items by Bros . Maldwyn Humphreys , John Josey , Walter Chambers , Will Edwards , and Fred James .

The Installing Master , Bro . G . B . Wood , addressed the new officers in a most able and impressive manner . It was announced to the brethren that the Secretary , Bro . W . G . Boswell , P . M ., P . Z ., intended to act as Steward for the Old People ' s Institution , and the lodge voted . 0 guineas for his list .
The brethren adjourned to Stanley's Restaurant , where the members and visitors enjoyed a banquet which reflected the highest credit on that establishment , and on Bro . Barrow , who peisonally superintended the arrangements . The customery loyal and Masonic toasts were received with enthusiasm . The toast of "The Grand Officers " was responded to by Bro . John Mason , P . G . Std . Br .
The toast of "The W . M . " was proposed by the I . P . M ., Bro . G . B . Wood , who congratulated the brethien on having so able and distinguished a worker to preside over Ihem , in whom they had the greatest confidence , and who would discharge the duties appertaining to the position with a zeal and ability which would redound to his own reputation and that of the lodge . ' 1 he W . M ., in reply , thanked the brethren for the honour they had conferred upon
him . He had given a great deal of consideration to the question of the acceptance of the position—indeed , for a time he felt he ought not to assume the responsibility , but as a rule the honour only came once in a lifetime , and he felt he should not contend with the fates . He relied on the support of every member , hoping all would strive for the welfare of the lodge , and it would be his constant care so to act as to merit the esteem of the brethren .
The W . M . then proposed the toast of "The Masonic Charities' in a speech which conclusively proved that he is thoroughly conversant with the details of the various Institutions , which was eloquently responded to by Bro . John Mason , P . G . Std . Br ., who is well and favourably known and esteemed as a tower of strength to the Institutions , pleading their cause in season and out of season , with the happy result that the appeal seldom fails to touch responsive chords or to unloose purse strings . This was amply demonstrated by the fact that the list showed thit over 45 guineas had bsen realised .
Bros . M . D . Wills , P . M ., and A . A . Foley , P . M ., made memorable speeches in suppoit of the above toast . The W . M . next presented the toast of "The I . P . M . and Installing Master , " which , he remarked required but few words to recommend it , as he had admirably discharged the duties , and had given the lodge every satisfaction . The W . M . then presented a very handsome jewel in the name of the lodge for excellent services rendered , with the earnest hope of the brethren that he would be long spared to wear the token of esteem which he had merited at their hands .
In leply , Bio . G . B . Wood thanked the brethren , to whom he expressed his gratitude . He would prize and wear the jewel , which he knew was a mark of their esteem , and thanked the officers and brethren who had assisted him during his year of office .
the W . M . then gave the toast of "The Visitors , " which was responded to by Bros . G . S . Graham , P . M . 1777 , P . P . G . Org . Surrey ; J . W . Folkard , P . M . 2345 ; Honner , P . M . 1382 ; Beckett , P . M . 7 S 0 ; and A . Moorhead , P . M . 24 , S . W . 2697 .

gatheiings . Although the lodge has been in existence some 32 years , and has from its consecration been steadily advancing , it remained for Bro . Carroll to propose that a departure should be made , and the ladies invited to partake of the hospitality of that lodge , and his own energy , together with the hearty co-operation of the brethren , ensured good results .
A regular meeting was held previously , lodge being opened at 3 . 30 , when Messrs . R . H . and Arthur Ferguson were initiated by Bro . Carroll in excellent manner .
