The usual loyal and Grand Lodge toasts were briefly yet tellingly put by the W . M ., and heartily responded to by the brethren . Bro . Read , in the course of his response to the toast of "The V . W . the D . G . M ., and the rest of the Grand Officers , Present and Past , " said he rose with a great deal

of pleasure , and with some little pride , to respond to the toast so well put by the W . M . and so genially received by the brethren present . He would not say a word about the many excellent qualifications of their G . M . and the other principal ofiicers of Grand Lodge , for it wanted no words of his to add to tlHr fame or enhance their merit , but for himself he would say lhat he had the honour and orivilerfe

of being and officer ( Past ) of Grand Lodge , and had the further honour of being associated with the Board of Benevolence for the last 12 years , and also with other Masonic work . He felt sure that the Grand Officers paid every devotion to the duties of Grand Lodge , and after c ngratulating the Installing Officer , Bro . Chas . Atkins , upon the excellent working shown by him that day , concluded

by again thanking them for their kind reception of him at that important meeting . The I . P . M . then proposed the toast of "The Worshipful Master , " which he demonstrated as the toast of the evening . He said they had seen the good work done by the VV . M from the lowest officer to the highest chair . Bro . J . Macgregor was a good man and a good Mason . He took a

f reat interest in Alasonry . He ( Bro . Atkins ) felt sure that Bro . Macgregor would do his work well and to the satisfaction of every brother of the lodge . The Worshipful Master , in response , said he thanked them for the hearty way in which they had received the toast of his health , and on some other occasion would try and make a speech , but as there were several brethren

present who would have to speak shortly , he would sacrifice himself on their behalf , and say what he meant to say on a tuture occasion . At present he would content himself by saying that nothing should hi wanting on his part to maintain the honour and reputation of the Wellington Ledge . Bros . A letter was read from Bro . A . C . Halestrap , P . M ., Treas ., requesting the brethren not

to re-elect him to that ofiice , as he feared the state of his health would prevent his attendance and attention to the duties . Subsequently the Secretary was desired to communicate to Bro . Craft Masonry.

After dessert the usual loyal toasts were lirst heartily Voooured . Bro . C . J . R . Tijou , P . A . G . P ., in response to the toast of "The Grand Ollicers , " said that , in common with his colleagues , it was a great pleasure to visit lodges where the work was so well done , and where an example was s » t , particularly by such young Masons as the present . VV Master that evening . He was present at Bro . Potts '

initiation , and had watched him through his Masonic career , and could say there was scarcely a brother in ' tlie room who , beginning Masonic work at the age he did , had reached the Master's chair and performed the duties with such cinlidence and knowledge io so short a time . Hehad no doubt that the character of the lodge wouhl be

maintamed , and its pres ' . ige possibly excelled , during the W . M ' s . year of office . It would be impossible for the W . M . to do his work unless supported bv one and all of the ofiicers . He only regretted the Grand O . 'ficers did not travel east a little oftener , for it would give him a quiet evening at home , but this lodge was one re had attended lor many year ? , and hoped to see prosper for some time to

come . Bro . G . E . Warn , I . P . M ., then said that having been entrusted with the gavel , the brethren would know , it was for the purpose of proposing " 'Ihe Health of the VV . M . " He felt that in the previous toast liro . Tijou had somewhat taken the wind out of his sails . He had been assoc-ated with Bro . Potts and worked hand in hand with him in the Iodge through various offices , and now the W . M . had

gained the position he had striven for . Every brolher in the lodge respected the VV . M ., and every officer would do his best to support him . They wished him eveiy success , good health , and a prosperous year of office , and if the brethren only followed in his footsteps they would be worthy Masons , always ready and willirg to do all they could for the lodge and Masonry generally . . Bro . W . T . Potts , W . M ., who was heartily received , said

he felt deeply indebted to the I . P . M . for the flattering terms in which he bad proposed the toast , and to the brethren for the cordiality with which they had received it . ln occupying the chair he felt that a great mantle of anxiety and responsibility had fallen upon him . The quondam occupiers of that chair had performed theduti ; s with such credit to themselves and satisfaction fo the brethren that they could quite understand he felt

diffident in following them , lie could only say that his efforts would be directed towards maintaining the high prestige which previous cccupants of . the chair had brought to lhe . [ lodge . That was his mother lodge in which he was instructed by his dear friend , Bro . McLaren , the Instating Master on the present occasion having proposed him . At his initiation he wis so impressed with the masterly manner in whicii the ceremony

was performed that he made up his mind to emulate the high work of Bro . McLaren . From that time forward he had filled various offices , not wilh su : h satisfaction to himself as he would have liked , his business being such as necessitated his leaving England and going abroad . He had , hoivevei , endeavoured to make arrangements , which preclude that possibility , and enable him to preside at their meetings in the coming year . He would recommend that

any member of the lodge who felt he had been slighted , or had any grievance against another member , should , in conjunction with himself , cement those differences * for the benefit and prosperity of them all in common . With their kind assistance and the hearty co-operation of the officers he had no doubt they would bring their earnest desires to a successful result . Bro . C . A . Wood , in response to "The Initiates , " said

that whatever feelings of diffidence he might have had , had passed away in the atmosphere of brotherhood . which he felt was a-ouod him . It was a most auspicious and fortunate occasion , this being a special meeting of the year , and he had observed that that brotherhood also existed between that lodge and the large number of members of other lodges present . The W . M . was fortunate in being able to point to his actions , but if he ( Bro . Wood ) were to siv what he

intended to do his words would not have the same force as his year's work would do if he was spared to carry out the feelings of his mind . The Worshipful Master , in giving "The Installing Master , " said the ceremony petfurmed by Bio . Bailey had been already eloquently re ' erred to . He was much impressed with the ceremeny , andhad never heard it rendered insuc ' a an able manner . Bro . Bailey was an initiate of the lodge , and took the keenest interest in everything pertaining to

Freemasonry , andparticulary to their lod ^ e . Bro . J . Bailey , P . M ., in reply , said it had been a source of very great pleasure tu him to ins ' . al his friend , the W . M ., whose career he had watched from the moment of his initiation . He thanked the VV . M . for his kindness in allowing him to perform the ceremony , and hoped his efforts bad met with the satisfaction of the brethren . Bro . 1 . M . Longley , P . P . J . G . W . Kent , acknowledged

' * The Visitors , " and said they were especially grateful for the hospitality which had enabled them to be present at the installation of the VV . M . It had been his good fortune t J see some 40 install itions in Kent , but'he must say , in i us ' . ice to that lodge that he had never heard the ceremony performed in a more careful , corrcc' , arid admirable manner . The lodge must feel proud of a Past Master who coul I do the work in such an excellent way . They also cou ! d not

help noticing the careful manner in which the I . P . M . initiated the candidates . He congratulated the Iodge on possi ssing as their W . M . the able brother who had presided over them that evening , and under his auspices , supported as he would be by a good set of officers , a successful year of office could safely be predicted . Bros . Mears , Holland , and Waterson also responded . 'The W . M . proposed " Ihe Masonic Charities , "

remarking that failh ended in sight , hope in fru ' tion , but Charity extended beyond the grave . ' The Masonic Charities supported nearly 1000 pi 1 sons , and the average subscriptions for the past nine years was , £ ' " 2 , 39 . 1 per annum . Bro . Tijou , P . A . G . P ., appropiiately replied , after which "Ihe Past Masters" and " Thc Ofiicers " were honoured , and a very successful and enjoyable evening was closed with the Tyler's toast .

Bros . The lodge having been opened , and the minutes of the last regular meeting in November and an emergency meeting in January conli-med , the first business was the raising of Bros . Marggraf and Gori , ig . A ballot was then taken for Mr . T . Spotswood , and , proving in his favour , he was admitted and initiated . Bro . A . Cox , S . W ., was then unanimously elected W . M .

Halestrap the regret of the brethren to lose the benefit of his services , and their deepest sympathy with him in his illness . Bro . Sidney Napper , P . M ., was unanimously elected Treasurer , and Bro . J . Couchman , Tyler . Bros . Newman and Attwater were appointed to audit the

scc . iunts of the lodge . A Past Master ' s jewel , of the usual pattern and value , was voted to the W . M ., and the sum of 10 guineas voted to the list of the VV . M . elect , who is a Steward lor the next Festival of the Benevolent Institution . The names of three candidates for initiation were proposed , and the lodge was closed . After an excellent banquet , the usual toasts were given and responded to .

Bro . A . Cox , S . W ., W . M . elect , replying to the toast of his health , remarked on the coincidence of his being elected on his birthday . He reminded the brethren that he was initiated by his father , Bro . Henry Cox , P . M ., and he was desirous that his father should also install him in the chair . He had expressed that wish to the VV . M ., and Bro . Loomes had kindly consented , under the circumstances , to Bro .

Cox , sen ., performing that ceremony . Other toasts followed , and with a long programme ol music the proceedings were continued to a rather late hour . Bros . Marggraf , C . Isler , H . B . Harding , M . Tuck , J . Amand , C . Kemp , T . E . Newman , E . H . Bury , and D . C . Attwater contributed songs , and Bro . C M . Coxon gave as a recitation Dagonet ' s verses " The Gilded Popinj ay " from the Referee .

Bromley St . Leonard Lodge ( No . 1805 ) . —An interesting event , which annually excites considerable interest in East London Masonic circles , took place on the 15 th inst ., at the Bromley Vestry Hall , Boiv-road , E ., when the installation meeting of this flourishing lod / e was held . The number of brethren present was about 120 , and the proceedings throughout were of a thoroughly cordial and harmonious character , the principal keynote struck by the
